Nigerian Nanny Bags 80 Year Jail Term In the US

A 24 year old Nigerian woman has been sentenced to 80 years in prison for the death of one of the children, 16-month-old Elias Castillo.

Appeals for leniency failed to move a Texas judge who delivered a harsh sentence of 80 years behind bars for Nigerian-American  Jessica Tata, convicted in the death of a child killed in a fire at her home day care in Houston, Texas.

Eight witnesses testified for Tata in the punishment phase of the trial on Friday. Twenty two witnesses testified for the prosecution, alleging that she ran an unclean facility where dirty diapers and vomit were strewn on the floor. The deceased child, 16-month-old Elias Castillo, succumbed to a fire ignited when Tata went shopping and left a pan of oil cooking on the stove.

  2. Very sad story , my heart goes out to the parents although they are partly to blame.... How can you leave your child in this kind of daycare, why not a proper daycare .

also Jessica must be very careless or someone is pressing something from her village. She was convicted of double arson in high school , now another fire incident. What up with her and starting Fires

  6. This must be a racially motivated sentence.Yes! Justice should be served on her,but 80 years? Did they even jail the white cops who shot the unarmed senegalese? She's bearing the brunt of Obama's election victory!

  7. That's a harsh one!...very harsh, considering the fact that it wasn't murder, but neglect, and a probable man-slaughter..
If the witnesses were aware of the state of her facility, why did they keep on sending their kids there? They could have withdrawn their kids! Blame it on them too!...
Anyways, someone must pay for the disaster, right?..but that's a very heavy price.

    1. Too harsh eh? I bet you wouldn't be saying this if it were your child who died because of a stupid person's stupidity.

  10. So how is she Nigerian? This woman has probably not been to nigeria before. If she did something laudable now they'll say she's american.

  11. She is to blame for what happed to her. Causing painful death by fire of an innocent 16 month child is an unforgiven crime which deserves any punishment. Regards those who sent their kids there, who knows, could be that was what they could afford at dis hard economic time

  15. If it happened in Naija, desperadoes will come on here and rant "this couldn't have happened in UK, US etc". Shit happens everywhere and Government officials(who are supposed to supervise crazy people) are lazy all over the world

  16. This story is not complete and twisted. Slightly tending towards twisting the story self....4kids died...many more were burnt, she ran to naija...fbi had to go to naija to find her etc... The Houston news crew even came to interview people around in locating her.
It has been in the news and has been very embarrassing.

  17. Yes o, I suspect Luca has been deported becos after Ladun's post on a large no.of naijas deported from UK, Luca just dissapeared. Eya Luca upon all your shakara on this blog, you no get papers? We miss you die o!

  19. For all of you saying the sentence is too light, may you never lose a child due to someone's madness.

    fact check
    1. She left stuff on fire with kids in the house and went shopping......Who in their right mind doesn't know this is deadly?

    2. Kids dies and others suffered severe burns........Children involved were babies oh.

    3. When it happened, she ran away to naija tying to avoid the U.S Law.........

    4. She was plead guilty to starting 2 fires in high school.......coincidence or fire starter?

Abegi she deserves all 80 years. STFU will that racial card rubbish. Its probably that hire because ran away thinking she could avoid justice being served.

  21. Dont go starting rumors...... Luca might be taking time off blogs like Maximus . Doesnt mean he was deported .

  22. How can only one nanny be a care giver to more than 10 babies and a parent will be comfy? If she had another adult assisting her, this tragedy would have been averted. This is sad!
