Why Do Nigerian Pastors Shy Away From Talking About Sex?

Why do you think most Nigerian Pastors shy away from preaching about sex? They talk about salvation, prosperity, healing, miracles and others but not sex. Why do you think they don't talk about this?

  1. Nigerians are generally conservative. Even our parents cannot comfortably talk to us about sex. Infact most parents have never had the'talk' with their kidsa at all. Some people term it as hypocrisy. I think it's just our culture to keep mum about sex, it's a private matter we believe. To be honest I think it has helped a little afterall countries more open with the topic are known to be more morally decadent than we are. So same applies to pastors too. But it's too bad anyways, I love when pastors talk blatantly about sex. This sunday I saw a guy in his car, right in the middle of the mainroad, openly wanking on a tissue(off topic but I just had to share:)...Sex isn't a bad thing, it was created by God for pleasure. Pastors una hear??

  5. My pastor is definitely an exception! He talks about it if the need arises. Makes me uncomfortable though...but I'm cool with it.

  7. Have you attended all the church services to know if they do or don't or you just feel like talking? The truth any man of God will tell you is if you are single, you have no business with sex, that is all! For the married ones, there are marriage seminars that do all the sex talk. Trust me, they preach about sex, only to those qualified to be having sex. Singles should not have sex, God said so. The only 'sex talk' any single should be hearing is 'abstain from sex till you get married'. After then, you can be preached to about sex.

    1. I totally agree with your comment. But besides, all pastors talk about these days is prosperity. And when they talk about salvation, its only to the extent that if u are not prosperous then you're not fulfilling God's plan for you and thus are not saved. The whole thing tire me. They just have a way of connecting everything to prosperity and money. And they've become so skilled at it that by the time they're done, like someone under hypnosis you find urself emptying ur wallet and account on their alters.

  9. Sex does not bring them money and besides, some of them r guilty of having extra marital affairs with members of their congregation,so d shame and guilt of what they do would not allow them to condemn it! Period!

  11. Infact , its like you were in my head with this question. I have been asking that for sometime now and it has been bothering me in the last 3months.

Like the Church I go to in Lagos. One of the popular members (OAP), keeps sending out 'How women can get a man' article out to blogs. Those articles are not geared towards married people but to singles.

It makes me wonder, plus he seems to be very active at church, close to the Pastor and all.

I cannot wrap my head around this one.

    1. Hi Faynediva, are you talking about IK Osakioduwa? If you are, there's really nothing offensive or unChristian about his "How women can get a man" article. Its meant for singles and not for married people. Why should married women be planning how to get a man? They should be planning how to keep their husbands.

There was nothing about pre-marital sex in his article. I think you need to read it again. By the way, I dont know him personally, i dont attend his church. Im not even a regular listener to his show. I just listened to that particular show where he talked about women getting a maan and i appreciated hearing honest views from a guy.

  12. And why should Pastors "preach" about sex? Do Pastors preach about food, football, swimming or sleeping? Exactly what are you trying to get at? Is sex a way to get to heaven? Did Jesus preach about sex? I don't understand what you are getting at, Ladun! This your madness has started again.

My Pastors talk about it. Last Sunday, it was about lewdness, perversion, LGBT, oral sex etc. They go full circle especially when the children are taken away to their own section.

  23. Ladun you are pigeonholing all Pastors!

Some Pastors preach about sex education the same way parents are now teaching their kids about it. They preach more about the spiritual angles to it, fornication, adultery, lasciviousness and so on.

Let me play devil's advocate, will you have Chris Okotie preaching about sex in his church?

  24. I guess u r wrong there,my pastor preaches abt sex, he even wrote a book abt it.

    1. Not true. Those are what forbidden sex is called. Sex is not a sin,it's when you do it outside the marriage or perversely that it's sin. Really, what Church do u n Ladun worship? None?

  28. #1 .... why should they talk about sex in particular? Why should they talk about bleaching, home decoration, make up, shitting, peeing in particular?
#2...... if the need arises, they will talk about it
#3.......sometimes talks about sex are restricted to married people. If you are not one, then??????
#4......how can you extrapolate your own experience with your pastor to the million and one pastors in Nigeria.

  29. Some pastors preach about sex. Av u listened to the message SANCTIFIED SEXUALITY. It talks about sex and it preached by one of the pastors of House on the Rock (Pastor paul Adefarasin) is the founding member of the church. pastor Bimbo Odukoya too used to preach about sex, so pls dont generalise.

  30. Ladun you are so right. The most common sin in the world now is sexual sin. The bible even recognised it by calling this world "an adulterous and sinful world". If pastors preach everything about sexual sin and its consequences the way they go about preaching prosperity, 50percent of souls might be saved from this terrible locust. Many people are guilty of this immorality. Pastors should come out and preach it raw, at least twice in four sundays, as a sunday message. Souls are going to perish because of this sexual imorality. I have read and heard some stories about pastors commiting adultery. Maybe out of guilty, these ones dont preach it. Wrath of God is in full package. Rev 22 vs 14 - 16 "" Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city......for without are dogs, sorcerers, and WHOREMONGERS, and murders, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie......i JESUS have sent mine angel to testify unto you these things in the CHURCHES......."". Let us all be guided
