May D Wanted to Be P-Square in a Year- Jude Okoye

After May D broke up with P Square, the Okoye brothers refused to state what actually made them break up. But in a video released online few hours ago, this was what Jude said;

We sign in artistes as our way of giving back to the society, and by the time they become known, we let them be. However when May D came in, he wanted more than that, he wanted to be Psquare, a name that we have struggled to be build for years. He also said May D wanted to live a good life with cars and flashy things all in a year, forgetting that it took P Square 8years to achieve that. Watch the full video after the cut.

    1. Don't mind him, very insulting to refer to a two sided affair a one sided..they would have collected royalties from his sale if he stayed..to the other point, we heard May D was still leaving at home with hi parents without a car as DavidO used to take him to and from events. I do not think it was too much for him to ask for a car and as the Mo'hits leaked emails showed, buying a car and packaging artsistes is good for business as people will take them more seriously.

  7. So because it took P Square 8 years to achieve anything, it must take May D the same? So what is the value P Square added?

And how is developing an artiste giving back? Its simply business. The guy is talented, not a pushover. May D was working all that time without a contract. When it became time to sign, was it too much to even offer him a car and an apartment. They wanted to cheat him and he was right to refuse the slave treatment

  10. Jude is obviously not well schooled in promoting artist. Times have changed in the Nigerian music industry and his brothers helped change it for the better and he feels buying a car and a renting a better apartment is not a worthy investment for someone that helped bring about their biggest hit outside of Africa.
May D is the next level and they should have seen it from 'Chop my money' and 'Ile Ijo'.
I wish all of them well but bad business move Jude, don't think sentimentally, think business!!

  12. Jude is obviously not thinking like a business man, he is being sentimental.
May D is the next level, 'Chop my Money' & 'Ile Ijo' should have given them a better insight to the star May D would become.
P Square got some benefits when they signed to Konvict music. They helped change and pave the way for artist in Nigeria and its a shame that one of the most successful managers in Nigeria can air such empty sentiments as against informed business decision about an Artist who gave P Square their biggest hit out of Africa (we all know May D made 'Chop my Money' ...Jackie Chan ...Wuasha!)

  13. I can believe this story as i have had similar experience with artist in the past, a friend of mine also had same experience with some artist as well so I can see reason with Jude, Square Records gave him 2 videos, popularity and we all know MayD today because of square records. So its obvious they were putting work into his project, most naija artist want big cars, mansion, babes and plenty money once contract is signed even tho they haven't really sold records so I can see sense in what Jude is saying.. take a Q from Mohits Wande, Sid and Prince dint have much until they started releasing their own albums, signing endorsement deals and doing plenty performances.. its a job at the end of the day as you work so you will eat

    1. I like your perspective. Nobody wants to stoop low to conquer these days and this is majorly because a lot of these artistes are falsely buying into their own hype. MayD has been around for years but he was an unknown quantity till Square Records gave him a platform. Cool down, humble yourself, get work done and bid your time, no! which is pretty easy to do (with the advent of social media, it's easier and faster these days to blow up).

Thanks to Davido, Olamide etc. Everybody wants to be a star in 15mins. I remember this MayD from 2009 when he was featured in that Kels' song (Too fine), he totally murdered that hook but did that make him popular or put food on his table? So far, the only young artiste I love right now is Dammy Krane. He is young but he has common sense.

A lot of these artistes went through the same process (Tuface at Kennis, Wiz @ EME, Darey post Idols etc.). I remember how Kels grew titanic wings after a couple of singles, she fought with Clarence, left the label. Thank God for a well-documented contract, now she owes them. Where is she today? Probably growing a pot belly somewhere.

    2. You believe because it happened to you. Really???? What car did MayD buyy after he left? Wasn't it a Nissan? Is that a big car?

Everyone else has stated the obvious. MayD's success does not affect PSquare's, it adds to it.

I wish everyone well. I really wish MayD will be mature about this and remain quiet while moving on.

jude imagine this, you start construction of a house (mayd) and many tenants (fans) moved in, without tangible reasonable reason, you, jude okoye, decided to pull the structure down with the occupant, nna, that is wickedness.

jayz made riri, what she is today. lets not go far, akon made or contributed to the career success of the following; lady gaga, cardinal official and t pain.

akon saw all this artist through, and these musicians made him filty rich, if he wants to be selfish like you, oyinye remix wouldnt have been possible.

imagine again, jude okoye, if you had seen mayd album through and he sells 3millions copy, under square records, yall gonna smile to the bank, i take a pause to drink water.....

to cut a short story long, jude wants to pull down psquare, why? he has been under the shadows of his brothers for too long! this thought may be seating in his johari window!

if you guys believe that success must come with pain, kindly enrol cameroon in a public primary school in lagos, if those pupil will not pull out his long hair one by one.

it took rahinna like 6months to take over america courtesy of hova, why in the hell are you now talking about "it took psqare 8 years bla bla bla" money indeed cannot buy class.

have said it before am gonna say it once more, if you cannot finish it dont start it.

hurricane mayd will make you guys to be working against the tides from now, prepare for the uphill task. you need a damage controller fast and keep ur naughty mouth shut for now.

  17. the pertinent questions the guy should have been asked is how many artistes have p square management actually single handedly discovered, nurtured and released in the 8 years?
besides it smacks of a collective self esteem issue they are battling with for p square as a brand seeing an ambitious young man as a threat, and reason for him to be sacked..the guy then seems to be inferring to the fact that may d should have somehow served an apprenticeship of sorts making some money for them for several years before being qualified to own cars and other material/financial benefits..
he really shouldn't have said anything because all he has said have only managed to sully their brand and render him useless, ineffective a jealous, vindictive record label exec.
in this day and age, with the one track, banal, usher wannabe, tribute style that they continually churn out without any new innovations and style which may d would have provided it is guaranteed that they have a shelf life and fans will soon get tired of their kind of music so if they think they can last the long haul without signing on new acts they ll be surprised

If MayD was such a hassle-free investment, I don't think Jude wudav let him go. And yes, signing new artists is giving back to the society. U think record labels just sign anyone? Apart from monetary returns, there are other criteria so most of you shd go and sleep.

  22. First of all, they did a very good thing by letting him go. Each side shouldn't be angry because of that. It is much easier to destroy than to build. One artiste can destroy what you have built for years. The people using Rihanna as an example...Ask yourselves when Jay Z bought rihanna a Car(porshe) and when did rihanna buy a house...it all happened in 2012. Now this youg man wants to be DAiVIDO in just a year, does he not know that davido is from a rich home. It takes patience, humility and sometimes acting like a fool to get what you want. Its damn too early for him to start wishing to be P.square. He should have kept those wishes close to his heart alone till he gets what he wants. Ella

Fatima you have a good sense of reasoning, MayD was giving a platform which so many artiste on the street are praying to for.i think he should humble himself, Rome was not built in a day like they said. His first colabo was with artiste well known round the world,i think he was given a yard and he ask for a mile which means pride has overwhelmed him which he must control.
