Violence In Bayelsa State Governorship Election Rerun

Violence once again is threatening the ongoing Bayelsa Governorship election rerun. Despite the assurances by security agencies and appeals by stakeholders for peace incidents of ballot snatching has been recorded in certain polling units.

Ahead of the poll, there was a bomb attack on the house of the Speaker on Thursday and now several reports of violence at some polling units as well as sporadic shooting where two people were reportedly hit by stray bullets have been recorded in the rerun taking place today.

The Peoples Democratic Party are accusing thugs loyal to the All Progressives Congress of disrupting election.

Following the cancellation of the election in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of the state as result of widespread violence the supplementary election had become necessary . More than a month later, the same problems are threatening the conclusion of the election.
