British Farmer Slammed For Posing With Wild Animals He Killed In South Africa

A British farmer has been blasted over images of him posing with an elephant and other animals he gunned down in South Africa. But Ian Evans, 62, last night insisted he shot the beast in an organised cull on a reserve, which is actually beneficial.

Other snaps show him with the bodies of animals including zebra and buffalo.

Asked if he felt guilty, he said: “If I told you the truth, I would get so much clap back about it. But I cried when I shot the elephant because it was the first time I’d ever done it. It was a unique moment.”

Mr Evans said the images, posted by former daughter-in-law Helen Winters, had been on Facebook for six years.

Helen, 36, claims Mr Evans stores tusks and elephant skin products at his farm near Newton Stewart, Wigtownshire. And she alleges he killed her pet geese this year.

Helen said: “He was proud of killing animals. The last set of tusks that came over are taller than me. He has mountains of pictures. His behaviour is disgusting.”

A statement on Ian’s website said the elephant was killed in a cull seven years ago.

Asked about the claim of storing tusks and elephant-skin products, he replied: “I’m not sure if I want to answer that.”

Amid fury on social media, Roy Hallams said “Horrible piece of s***” and Chloe Flanagan added: “You make me ashamed to be part of the human race.”
