Malawi President Warned Of Media Blackout

Private media groups in Malawi have threatened to stop reporting news about President Peter Mutharika and his cabinet ministers if he continues to "intimidate" journalists.

They say they are fed up with the intimidation of journalists and insults from the president.

Mr Mutharika recently described the media as disgusting, saying it peddled nonsense and garbage.

Journalists have in the past complained about the slow progress through parliament of an Access to Information bill.
