Conjoined twin girls whose mother didn't realise their condition until she delivered them are set to undergo an early operation to separate their heads and save their lives.

Bangladesh babies Rabia and Rukia will undergo the treatment earlier in a bid to fight of the risk of death.

Doctors had told their mum Taslima Khatun Uno and husband Mohammed Rafiqul Islam surgery would wait for two years but the operation will now be done sooner.

The parents have applied for financial help from the government to fund the life-saving surgery.

The operation could be held within weeks, as medics at Banghabandhu Sheik Mujib Medical University in Dhaka monitor their health.
