DSS DG Explains Why He Met Ibori

Lawal Daura, director-general of the Department of State Services (DSS), on Saturday said he met with James Ibori, former governor of Delta state, for “a short debriefing session and to also welcome him back to his fatherland”.

NAN reports that Daura said this in a chat with journalists in Abuja.

“He met me for a short debriefing session and way forward; also, to welcome him back to his fatherland. We are also meeting soon to discuss issues of interest affecting the nation,” Daura said.

Ibori returned to Nigeria on Saturday after serving a jail term in the United Kingdom for corruption.

Fayose Advocates N50,000 Corper’s Allowance

The Ekiti State governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has called on the Federal Government to review the corps members’ monthly allowance from the current N19,500 to N50,000, saying the current allowance was no longer feasible to sustain corpers with the current economic situation in the country.

The Governor who decried the deplorable condition of the Ekiti NYSC orientation camp in Ise/Emure promised immediate release of N20 million naira for the renovation of the camp.

Woman Names Her Tumour After Trump

A woman who vowed not to lose her humour after she was diagnosed with an uncommon form of cancer has named her tumour after US President Donald Trump .

Elise Stapleton was left stunned when doctors told her she had Hodgkin lymphoma in September last year.

The diagnosis meant the 24-year-old needed to undergo intensive chemotherapy which caused her to lose her hair.

She said she named her tumour after the controversial president because it is "one big, ugly, useless mass that is good at one thing: hurting people".

Kano DSS Director, Abdullahi Chiranchi Is Dead

The Director, Kano office of State Security Service, SSS, Abdullahi Chiranchi, has died. new reports have claimed. Mr Chiranchi died today after a brief illness.

Reports say the late DSS director had complained of stomach cramps and was rushed to the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital where he gave up the ghost.

His remains of late Chiranchi who hailed from Katsina will be transported to his home town for burial.

US Authorities Suspend President Donald Trump's Controversial Ban On Travellers

US authorities on Saturday suspended President Donald Trump's controversial ban on travellers from seven Muslim countries, following a court ruling that blocked its enforcement.

"We have reversed the provisional revocation of visas," a US State Department spokesman told AFP.

The department had said some 60,000 travel visas had been revoked in compliance with the president's recent executive order.

"Those individuals with visas that were not physically cancelled may now travel if the visa is otherwise valid," the official said.

The shocking act could come into effect as early as this spring and will allow members of the rape victim’s own family to stop a termination by suing the abortion provider.

The Arkansas Act 45, which has been passed in the southern US state of the same name, does not include an exception clause for rape by a spouse or incest, meaning the foetus’s father could sue an abortion clinic, even if they have raped the woman.

23 Teachers Dismissed In Zambia Over S3x With Pupils

The  teaching Service Commission says 23 teachers have been dismissed in Zambia for s3xually abusing and impregnating pupils from January 2014 to December 2016.

Teaching Service Commission chairperson Jennifer Chiwela said in an interview in Lusaka that the teachers were dismissed for various offences which include having s3xual relations with pupils and impregnating others.

Mrs Chiwela said, however, no teacher was dismissed for such offences in Lusaka and Copperbelt provinces.

James Ibori Picked Up By DSS

Operatives of the Department of State Services picked up deported former Governor of Delta State, Mr. James Ibori in Abuja on Saturday morning.

It's a new Nigeria afterall. Punch gathered that the Director General of the DSS, Mr. Lawan Daura, instructed that Ibori be brought to his office at Aso Drive, Abuja, for questioning.

The former governor was said to have been interrogated on his sojourn in the United Kingdom where he was recently released from prison.

He was also said to have been asked about his plan in the country.

Nine Killed In Indonesia Boat Accident

The wooden boat was carrying around 30 people when it overturned Friday afternoon after departing from Takalar Lama river to Tanah Keke island in the province of South Sulawesi.

Twenty-one people have been found alive but rescue teams are still searching for missing passengers.

"It´s a traditional boat and it didn´t report to the relevant authorities before it departed, so there´s also no passenger manifest and we don´t know exactly how many people were on board," said local disaster agency spokesman Hamsidar.

The cause of the accident is still not known, but officials suspect bad weather might have played a role.

Woman Married To British Man For Almost 30 Years To Be Deported From UK

A woman who has been married to a British man for almost 30 years is being held in a Scottish detention centre and is set to be deported back to her home country.

Irene Clennel, who lives in Ouston, near Chester-le-Street, in County Durham, was detained at a routine appointment at an immigration reporting centre in Middlesbrough last month.

She has been told she will be removed from the UK and sent back to Singapore. But Mrs Clennel, who first came to the UK in 1988, has built a life in England and has a husband, two sons and a baby granddaughter.

Boyce for the Southern District of Illinois announced today. Evidence presented in court showed that Sunmola was the ringleader of a criminal organization operating in South Africa that targeted hundreds of women across the United States, including many in the St. Louis area. The thieves managed to make away with millions of dollars in wire transfers and various electronics through the simple promise of true, enduring love.

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service began investigating Sunmola in 2012, when a woman in the Southern District of Illinois complained that she had been conned by a man masquerading online as "Elias Dyess."

Man Said He Robbed Bank To Escape Living With His Wife

A 70-year-old man charged with robbing a Kansas City, Kan., bank said he did it because he preferred a jail cell over living with his wife.

Lawrence John Ripple is charged in federal court with the Friday afternoon robbery of the Bank of Labor at 756 Minnesota Ave.

According to court documents, Ripple handed a teller a note that read, “I have a gun, give me money.”

Herdsmen Attack Farmer In Enugu Again

The Enugu State police have confirmed an alleged herdsmen attack on a farmer at Awha Ndiagu in Ezeagu Local Government Area of Enugu state, which led the hospitalisation of the farmer.


Though the farmer’s name could not be ascertained as at press time, the state Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu, told Saturday Vanguard that the incident occurred.

“The suspects had issues with the farmer, which led to his being assaulted,” said Amaraizu.

Police Arrest 5 Suspected Killers Of Custom Officer In Lagos

The Nigeria Police have arrested five suspected killers of Mr Aliyu Dayyab, Assistant Superintendent in the Nigeria Customs Service.

Force Spokesman, Jimoh Moshood, Chief Superintendent of Police, made the disclosure on Friday in Abuja when he presented the suspects before newsmen.

61-year-old chairman of Ilaje local government area of Ondo state Agunola Omomowo yesterday slumped and died after attending a political meeting in Akure, the state capital.

Party sources hinted that after the meeting, the deceased who walked to his car reportedly slumped when he was about unlocking his vehicle.

Nigerian Air Force Woman Allegedly Drugged Raped By Superior Heads To Court

A Nigerian Air Force personnel, IgbobieUzezi, who accused one of her superiors, Flight Lieutenant B.S Vibelko, of drugging and raping her in 2011, has sued him along with the Air Force, Chief of Air Staff, and Attorney-General of the Federation, for her unlawful dismissal.

The suit, number FHC/L/CS/10/17, was filed at the Federal High Court, Lagos Division on January 5, 2017, by the Malachy Ugwummadu Chambers on behalf of the Committee for the Defence of Human Rights, which is handling the case.

The court processes obtained by our correspondent, state that the “violent rape and sexual assault” of Uzezi was a “flagrant violation of her fundamental rights to life, dignity of human person and personal liberty.”

15,000 Youths To Welcome President Buhari From Vacation

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), says it has mobilised no fewer than 15,000 Nigerian youths to welcome President Muhammadu Buhari at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja, from vacation.

Malam Gambo Jagindi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the President of NYCN, Murtala Gamji, made the disclosure in a statement made available to newsmen on Friday in Abuja. Jagindi said that time had come for Nigerian youths, who are the future leaders of the country to show love, solidarity and support for the President, who is their current leader.

“ The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has concluded arrangements to mobilise not less than 15,000 of its members to be at Abuja airport on Feb. 6, to welcome President Buhari from vacation. “It is on record that integrity, discipline and honesty are gradually returning to our public life unlike in the past when impunity was the order of the day,’’ the spokesman said.

Tuface, Police Reach Agreement Over Protest

The Lagos State Police Command Friday rescinded its threat to stop the anti-government protest slated for Monday by pop star Innocent Idibia popularly known as TuFace .

The two sides met today and resolved to modify their hard line positions, according to Police Commissioner Fatai Owoseni.

Police Arrest 5 For Allegedly Planning Attack On Southern Kaduna

The Police in Kaduna State have arrested five suspects for allegedly planning to attack one of the remote areas of southern Kaduna.

 The Commissioner of Police, Mr Agyole Abbey, made the disclosure while presenting the suspects to newsmen on Friday in Kaduna.

Abbeh said the suspects were arrested on Thursday evening at Samaru Kataf in Zangon Kataf Local Government Area. He said preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly planning to attack one of the remote settlements in the area.

“We recovered the following items from the suspects: one Golf car; two Ak-47 rifles; one locally made pistol; three live cartridges; five cell phones; assorted charms; a touch light and the sum of N86,000.

A team of doctors at Aga Khan Hospital in Mombasa have successfully removed a coin that was stuck in the throat of a three-and-a-half-year-old baby boy for two weeks.

The boy’s health was quickly deteriorating after he swallowed the coin while playing with his mates at school in Bamburi.

He had to live with the coin in his throat for lack of medical services in public hospitals after doctors went on strike on December 5, 2016.

But Friday morning, a paediatric gastroenterologists led a team of doctors in removing the coin that had caused agony to Samson Kaingu, who had difficulties feeding and excreting.
