Why I didn’t take part in Fuel Subsidy Removal protest ….D’banj

Sahara TV had an exclusive interview with D’banj this afternoon, which was anchored by Chika Odua. Below are extracts from the interview. Very interesting answers
Chika: Did you ever dream of being this big in music?
D’banj: I dreamt about this…(Jokes: I’ve a dream!) God is using us to take our message across from Africa to here.
Chika: You are the face of African Pop music don’t you feel a lot of pressure?
D’banj: Yes a lot of pressure but I have nothing to be scared of. I have much responsibility.
Chika: There are rumors that you are dating Genevieve Nnaji how true is that?
Click to continue…
D’banj: No! We are not dating.
Chika: What is your status?
D’banj: I’m very single. I like Rihanna, I’m interested in her.
Chika: Will you Americanize your music now that you are working mostly in America…..(D’banj cuts in)
D’banj: What do you mean by Americanize?
Chika: I mean you use a lot of pidgin and yoruba in your music will you still do that?
D’banj: Yes I’ll, did you hear scapegoat? fall in love or oliver twist? I do music depending on the message and who I want it to suite.
Chika: So will you maintain the identity?
D’banj: I think American music is universal so I’ve a lot of work to do.
Chika: Ok, now on your interview with the President of Nigeria, there are talks that you collected money from him to sing and interview him.
D’banj: I didn’t collect money from the President. It wasn’t an interview it was a request, watch the interview I asked the President and I can remember the statements “What are your plans for the Nigerian youth?” because I dedicated a track to him so I wanted the people to know why I said I was going to vote for him, I wanted them to know his plans.
Chika: We understand you run a foundation and you were appointed as the United Nations youth ambassador for peace, with your position what are your responsibilities and what have you done with you position?
D’banj: I have much responsibility. I represent Africa, I represent Nigeria…do your research.
Chika: What was your take on the Occupy Nigeria and the fuel subsidy removal?
D’banj: 1st of all, lets take a minute silence for those who lost their lives during this period
Chika: Ok D’banj we really appreciate that, so carry on.
D’banj: I did not know anything that was happening [in Nigeria during protests] because I was working on my album in the UK.
Chika: But there was a protest in London why didn’t you participate?
D’banj: I didn’t know anything that was happening in London about the fuel protest because I was working… I am not a politician! And everyone that knows me well knows I don’t like cold, so I couldn’t go outside.
Chika: So what do you have to say?
D’banj: I don’t have anything to say, I wasn’t in the country when it was happening.
Chika: But I wasn’t in the country also.
D’banj: I’ve told you I don’t want to say anything about that topic, I don’t say what I don’t know anything about, If you know me very well I speak about what I know. I will not speak on something that I don’t know about. You will not get me to speak about what I don’t know. I wish my publicist told me that this was a political interview… (Chika cuts in)
Chika: So who operates your twitter handle?
D’banj: I operate it but I’m not always online, I’m on twitter when I want to pass an information not when you want me to.
Chika: There has been increase in poverty in Nigeria what do you have to say about this?
D’banj:  Yes I know, but poverty has always been in Nigeria. Let us focus on what we have, why are you hammering on negativity? I’ll speak from the angle that I know well which is the entertainment, that is what I know we can export, we should invest our talents to escape from poverty. I’ve a concert tomorrow, I need to practice and prepare well so I can represent Africa well.
Chika: Thank you very much D’banj. We appreciate the time you spent with us, we wish you all the best in your concert tomorrow.

  10. @MagaBoy Why wasn’t Femi Kuti mobbed? 9ice, Ruggedman, Funmi Iyanda and the rest of the 80% entertainers that came out to occupy? It is because he knows what he has done. He is a part of Jonathan’s Government and can’t speak against him. Who cares if he grants them another interview or not.

  14. Hehehe, i can't stop laughing, is this a joke? D interview went downhill after d americanization question. One minute what?
Face of pop, don jazzy's black arse! Who is his publicist? This is just a sad commentary on some of our so called stars; they r not articulate enough and r far too aggressive and sometimes a tad too obtuse for comfort. There r ways of answering or even evading questions intelligently instead of unnecessary gragra. **side eye** megaboi, who will mob him? You?

Yes, we know u didn't collect money frm d president. Diezanne perhaps or some other high ranking politician, no?

  17. DBanj didn't collect money from President Jonathan, but didn't he collect tens of millions from N2N, run by Stella Oduah? What about his interests in the oil industry & certain allocations facilitated by then (& now still) Minister Dieazani Madueke. He better stop being creative with the truth before people with enough verified information decide to spill out of share irritation. No comment is still a valid answer, this flippancy is NOT it Dapo abi na Chris Aire junior.

  21. i don't really blame d bank its his fans who are more like followers/worshippers i blame.when we deify artiste like a god or legend this kind of disrespect is what we get.

first his english is atrocious,he should have a speech therapist, most lagos boys even if not educated always speak good english i don't know where he got his own from,i thought 2face was bad but his own is horrible

i don't know who advised him to honour the sahara reporters interview knowing the kind of questions they ll ask him but i guess in his arrogance and misplaced confidence he knows even if he abuses our father and mother we ll still follow him .

its not even the actions that is pissing me off but him not bothering to make up a credible and believable excuse for not participating in the protests
BANKULI mr manager,is that what they taught you in ibadan poly

we are not hating o for the benefit of his followers but mark my words its only a matter of time his music which has no substance will start going down, don jazzy who is a fantastic producer will move on and create his own thing producing nigerian artistes or attach himself to GOOD music by fire by force as a sharp omo ibo
lets be honest he needs don jazzy more than don jazzy needs him so its only a matter of time

  23. Can we please have a minute of silence for d banj's stupidity. #olodo

  24. from this interview, dbanj certainly is not diplomatic, not a single drop of diplomacy in his veins. This interview was not his finest hour. But since we are all human, I'll give you minus 25%
There was no need to lose his cool to that extent. -70% for you dbanj.
But also, the interviewer didn't do much to salvage the interview. Once you put off your subject, it's near impossible to get anything out of them, so -50% for the interviewer.

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lol @ Haters... He is a musician, not a politician... Abeg, let us hear word.... Incidentally, hate or no hate, his concert in NYC scheduled for today is sold out... What hall has been sold out for your performance?

    ReplyDelete
  26. so because his concert today n NYC s sold out, we shd gulped in his garbage, Dbanj n that interview was so rude and not cultured, diplomacy makes d world go round and who says he didnt collect money from Jo????u did and stop lying. PERIOD

    ReplyDelete
  27. "I dont like the cold"...seriously?

Thats the excuse for not standing up with your people for your people? And he has the silly arrogance to do the minute silence for the people who lost their lives?

What an idiot! I was never a fan of his music & this person has just confirmed his level of selfishness.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Pretty obvious that he was high as a kite during the interview. So he was settled by Jona? So what? Abeg, let him enjoy his share of the national cake. Rehab and extended stays at Aro hospital will cost a lot of money - he's going to need all the government money he can get.

ps - I have hung out with a lot of stoned/high people. D'Banj's behavior is beyond drug use. He is mentally unstable. A mentally unstable closet-case.

    ReplyDelete
  29. proper m u m u

    ReplyDelete
  30. What a complete and abject disappointment! He doesn't like the cold?! Is he for frigging real? Were his phones and computer kept out in the cold too? Never have I read anything more arrogantly foolish. Anyway, everything has it's time and season.

    ReplyDelete
  31. so @anon 13:37 - you said he is a "mentally unstable closet case". Is he gay? Nothing wrong with that in my opinion. It'll be nice if stars like him can 'come out of the closet' and champion the cause of the homosexual in our intolerant country.
I hope he sorts himself out regarding drug use (if it's true) Look what drugs have done to our dear Whitney.
God bless us all struggling daily with our private pains but smiling so hard to the world to conceal it.

Finally, we expect too much from our 'stars'. Many are clueless, half literate dimwits who have a love for whatever they do. Please let's focus on his music and not his political views. Not every star needs to be the voice of the people. Some just wanna entertain.

    ReplyDelete
  32. D’banj is not doing drugs, please stop the rumours

    ReplyDelete
  33. whether he's into drugs or he's a jigolo or political houseboy that's his hot cup of tea, but he shd stop insulting our intelligence, Nigerians r not so dumb anymore

    ReplyDelete
  34. Mama na girl just made the POINT. We care less about his life, but he shouldn’t take us for granted by playing on our intelligence. That is what his fans shouldn’t take from him. Didn’t they make him? Why are they finding it difficult to break him, if he won’t succumb to their pleas?

    ReplyDelete
  35. several reasons why weed is not good for you.
My relationship with these clowns end s on the dance floor. Outside of the clubs,no sane adult should be listening to Dbanj or relying on him for any sort of leadership.
These boys are just clueless.Having loads of cash is no proof that a person can think straight.
Why should i be bothered what Dbanj thinks about subsidy? He is not that important.
you guys need to stop elevating these clowns.they are not that important.
We know those who make sense, Dbanj is obviously not one of them.

    ReplyDelete
  36. @ Anon 23:04... you've got jokes! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Come out ke? He'll find a woman to marry if push comes to shove.

@Ayo - you are a dunce! Anybody with any kind of exposure to the effects of drug use knows D'Banj is always under the influence of either weed and sometimes coke. His mental instability only confirms what we already know. Besides, those that know him have been wringing their hands about his drug use a while now.

    ReplyDelete
  37. OK he collected money from Jonathan, WTF is wrong with that? wat about the likes of Duncan Migthy that also sang for him, i can still remeber this clearly that DBanj wasnt the only Niaja artist that came to perform @ d campaign. All u talking sh*t about Mo'Hits ****FI LE****

    ReplyDelete
  38. @Mr Rome Hypocrite! You are one of the numerous irritations we are talking about. Stop the loyalty, he doesn’t give a F. Mr shoe shiner

  39. I beg your pardon? How dare you call me a dunce? I deserve an apology for that PLS

    ReplyDelete
  40. AYO, NA APOLOGY U WAN CHOP? DUNCE!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. Ayo, you are a dunce! No apologies for you.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I had to watch the interview because I couldn’t get through reading it (yawn!)
I sing “I’m an entertainer and not a politician.” “I’m so endowed but not in the brain.” If he was uncomfortable with the political questions he should have halted the interviewer and said he’s not here to discuss politics. Interviewers are good at putting people on the spot.
His body movement and speech were suspicious. If I never believed the drug story, just watching this made me believe it. The sunglasses may be a giveaway. Still hoping it’s not true and he’s just naturally “high!”

    ReplyDelete
  43. D'Banj smokes lots of good weed and skunk. LOTS.

D'Banj didn't collect money from Jonathan, if he wants to split hairs, I guess he is right. The money he got during the campaign was from N2N that Jonathan funded but I guess that doesn't count. The money he gets from knacking Aunty Diezani akpako is technically money from runs... oil deals he's gotten from her too technically counts as runs too I guess.

    foolish fool

    ReplyDelete
  44. He is not knacking Diezani, i'd hope she is aware that she's far too classy for him. Perhaps it is the Jewellery guy that he is nacking? Dbanj does not happen to like women, do you know any of his gf's or even jump offs? Have you ever heard stories about him sleeping with groupies etc... I strongly suspect he likes men. If he does, he has my support :)

She's far too classy for him? LMFAO. As if ever.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I wish it were true that Diezani wasn't knacking DBanj, but alas, she is. The 1st time someone told me, I did not believe it either. I had to call someone else even closer to her & he confirmed. I got that gist originally in Dec 2010 & it was reconfirmed in July 2011 along with the oil deals. By now this is one of the most open secrets in GEJ's government.
But why do you think Chris Aire is "classier" than DBanj? That boy is a HUZZLER & forget the forced accent, he's a razzo. So if Diezani can follow Chris, DBanj is just her type.

    ReplyDelete
  48. exposeeeeee ooooo,

    me again i believe u, i believe u

but dat woman, she get shame at all? seem any tom, dick nd whatever goes, grushhhhhhhhhhhhh

    ReplyDelete
  49. Me again... go and re-check your gist oh. I find it more plausible that D'Banj and Chris are the lovers; not D'Banj and Diezani.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Who is this Me Again that has the scoop on everyone?

    ReplyDelete
  51. anon 00:03, be afraid, be very afraid.

  52. Can we please drop this Diezani ati Dbanj story? it is a lie and big one at that.
To those asking for Dbanj groupies, he does have them and as limited as my waka is, i have met at least 2 girls (very regular club girls) who he had slept with.

    ReplyDelete
  53. D'Bang's PR is here. A trio with D'Bang, Chris Aire and Diezani is a possibility. They are all as razz as hell. Me again hasn't said anything new. N2N = Oduah, oil industry = Diezani. All mammy waters in the game.

    ReplyDelete
  54. If you're implying that DBanj is gay, that one I have not heard from any reliable source. So you're OYO with that.
The Diezani gist on the other hand is overconfirmed & overflogged. He has all the evidence of a very fruitful liaison with madam Minister. Other women are interested in the young man too.

    ReplyDelete
  55. LOL@ D'Banj's folks doing damage control on Ladun's blog! Madam Minister ko, Mr Minister ni! D'Banj like the men. Abeg, vamoose!
