SAD: How A Youth Corper Died Trying To Save A Ball

Faith Nzube Enemuo Batch “C” member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has been reported to have drowned in a river in Ikom Local Council where she was currently serving.

She is a graduate of Social Studies from the University of Abuja. She came along with her co-corpers to play handball at the bank of the river. But, a few minutes into the game, she went missing.

There were about 10 of them, who came to play handball on the dry land near the Ikom River. One of them suggested that they should move closer to the river, but the suggestion was opposed by other Corps members. The ball fell into the river, an eyewitness said, and the late Faith offered to fetch the ball, which was moving faster away from the shoreline.

The late Faith stood close to the river for a few seconds, after which she dived to bring the ball out. Her colleagues watched in excitement as she swam close to the ball. But, in a moment, she stopped and started waving her hands. They thought she was still playing, until they didn’t see her again on the water surface.

When her colleagues realized what was happening, they signaled to the villagers, who were swimming in the river. After 10 minutes of frantic search, the rescuers could not find the girl. More villagers offered to help with canoes and fishing instruments, but they could not get her. Two days later, the late Faith’s body was found on the Okuni Beach in the neighbouring village.

  11. So sad, I'm sure she knows how to swim and dts why she jumped into d river and started swimming towards d ball. Something must have pulled her down from under d water. Unseen forces inhabiting d rivers. Especially being a stranger in d land. May God have mercy on her soul and console her family

You lack the fear of God walahi! Ahn ahn for you to also say you didn't build a swimming pool means you have the money to but didn't! See me wasting in teaching hospital! Life is really unfair!

  16. really sad its just a freak accident stranger things have happened with absolutely no diabolical undertones…she must have misjudged the depth of the river and sadly lost control just like our natural personalities as africans our rivers, beaches have stronger currents than the average

    ReplyDelete
  17. There is a big difference between a river and a swimming pool. There is no undercurrent in the pool. That is what may have pulled her under the water and caused drowning.

  18. These morons have come again with "something must have pulled her under" was it your uncle or grandma that was under that pulled her? Why must everything that happens be diabolic. So the under current couldnt have been strong enough to drag her down or she misjudged the depth? RIP dear one.

  22. May her soul RIP but those her friends are complete otondos, someone was flailing her hands as a signal that she is in distress, they thought she was playing, which kain mumu play be that? Probably slept through PHE classes in Sec. school.

I don't think it's spiritual, like someone said, she probably misjudged the depth of the river because if the river was one Oshoronga river like that, they would have been warned severally besides no villager will dive inside to look for her. They would wait until her body floats and then begin talking about rites and rituals. Whatever be the case, all that is hidden is fully open in God's view.

    *sigh* Her poor parents.
