The NFF is currently mourning the death of a Golden Eaglet defender, Friday Njengo. The footballer and his team mate were involved in an accident while traveling from Jalingo to Calabar on the 3rd of Feb., 2013 for the first phase of the final camping of the Eaglets for the African Championship, which the Eaglets later won.
Friday sustained head injuries and when his condition became critical, he was moved from the Federal Medical Centre Jalingo to the Intensive Care Unit of the National Hospital in Abuja. Shortly after an operation was performed on him, Friday suffered memory loss and finally lost the battle on Sunday,17th November, 2013.
The General Secretary of NFF described his detah as very sorrowful and says Nigeria has lost a huge talent. “This is very sad news. We had looked forward to the boy eventually recovering to be part of the team again as the squad progresses to the next level.” He said.
