Celebrating Christmas Is Biblical Catholic Replies Kumuyi

The Deeper Life General Overseer, Pastor Kumuyi during their annual National December Convention, on Saturday, told his church members not to celebrate Christmas. In his words, he said,

“We don’t celebrate Christmas. It actually came from idolatrous background. That is why you don’t hear us sing what they call Christmas carol, Never! We always say it is the Christmas retreat. We are only gathering together because it is the holiday period and love the lord more, and rededicate ourselves more."

Well, The Director of Social Communications, Catholic Archdiocese of Lagos, Monsignor Gabriel Osu, has replied him, saying that, celebrating Christmas is biblical and that is how it will remain. He also said that, Don’t Pastor Kumuyi’s celebrate him, so why shouldn’t we celebrate Jesus. His words;

“I don’t know what he means by saying the practice of celebrating Christmas is wrong. “Is he saying that Christ wasn’t born? That he didn’t come to die for us? Does he not celebrate his own birthday?
"Do Kumuyi’s pastors not celebrate him? It is not everything I react to; some people just seek attention. If Kumuyi is a Christian, then he must believe in Christ.

“The celebration of Christmas didn’t just start today; it is too public an event for anyone to say that they don’t know what it is about. If Kumuyi is condemning the commercialisation of Christmas, I can understand that. Christ came to redeem us from our lost state; this was actualised through his coming, his birth; that is why we celebrate Christmas. It is the fulfilment of God’s promise.

“I saw him on the television a few days ago. He was in Akwa Ibom State and was the chief preacher during their Christmas celebration event. Kumuyi is just saying what he feels; he is not making any doctrinal statement.”

  2. What is the Monsignor even saying?,is it that he didn't get Kumuyi's point?,besides,which Kumuyi did he see in Akwa ibom,he should get his facts right,Bishop Oyedepo was the minister there.I wonder why people just throw attacks at others for their opinions especially when they didn't even get the facts right

I rili hate it wen things r over emphasised especially in the christaindom we should b careful abt how we interpret the heart/the word of God always learn how to keep ur opinions to urself instead of saying it as if its God speaking chrismas is not in the bible yes but that doesn't mean we shouldn't celebrate 25dec is a date fixed for celebrating the birth of Jesus & if u no won celebrate leave am for us wey won celebrate period.

    2. Spiritually, christmas is a time of reflection, when we look at our lives and see if it's in tandem with how Christ would want it to be. Just like we celebrate our birthdays and we socialise with our friends and loved ones, we also socialise when we celebrate the birth of christ. There's absolutely nothing wrong with dat. But the unfortunate thing is dat pple now attach so much importance to the social aspect dan the spiritual aspect and dat is y some pple r very critical about celebrating christmas.

    3. There is no more to say U already said it all.and to add to that Am sure Jesus will be happy if we celebrate him by preaching the Gospel and staying Holy which is the Pastor main point.why celebrate christmas when majority are sinners.Then whats the significance of his birth?

  8. If he just saying what he feels, then let it be made clear. That is what he believes, it is not biblical fact.

    Fr. Gabriel Osu, Kumuyi made a historical statement and he is correct. Christmas is not biblical. The Jehova Witnesses has been reasoning along this line for decades now. Kumuyi merely repeated a fact held to be truth by the Jehova Witnesses whom the Christendom have always derided as heretics. The truth is coming home and very soon, the JW will be the one true religion Nigerians will gladly embrace since they are the only group who teach accurate biblical message. I am Anglican, by the way.

  13. Both pastors are wrong.They need to go and do their research.Celebrating Christmas is a pagan worship.it is the same as celebrating Halloween. Both are forms of pagan worship.
