Ex-Beauty Queen, Karen Eloke Young Speaks About Abuse Of Ladies In Nigeria & How She Was Molested

This is just so sad. I think the society needs to start respecting women. Some of these women work so hard, that men can’t even dare to go that lane. They can’t even dare to work that hard. Yet, because they are women they do not get respected for what they have worked for. Her tweets are heart breaking, and I tell you for free, this is what most successful ladies go through. You can’t even go somewhere alone that you want to buy a house, the questions won’t end. It’s so sad and sickening. Her tweets after the cut. You need to start from the bottom and read upwards to be able to understand.

  5. I always say this,be careful what you do in the past cuz it might haunt you in the future. Miss karen young is a classical case of that, its true she works hard. But sometime in the past she did runs. The worst thing u can do is lie to yourself. How many descent girl sends out their driver to buy them hennessay to calm their nerves down? Why would a single girl use as much as 2million naira,if truly the whole money is your hard-earned salary to pay for rent? She has been living in 1005 apartments, has a car,all before the age of 27,from the salary of journalism in this Nigeria? Who is deceiving who?

  14. I feel her pain, But But... this is Karen young, what kinda image is she trying to create for herself? Or does she think we are stupid?
Before she moved to 1g4 she was staying in lekki and driving a Toyota, this was straight from uniiben, and no job, biko who was footing that bill?
Young girl, renting apartment in 1g4, 1g4 that their electricity bill per month is some people's salary, where is the money coming from?
Don't say it's through writing o, cos even before u got this journalist job u were already staying in 1g4.
My point is, yes it's true Nigeria women are treated with disrespect and there is sexual harassment everywhere but KAREN ELOKE is the wrongest face for the campaign, like is she f*** kidding me?
Even if you don't follow senators/governors at least u dated a married man, your looks have favoured you, men dash you money just because.. so what rubbish are you saying nne?

  17. Na wa. Do you have a brother, male cousin or male friend you can go with while house hunting? You need back up when going to some places oh. I am going to say this but please Karen if you read this do not vex. You know the society we live in you should try and downplay your appearance. Plenty make up, plenty hair, revealing clothes, bleached skin, designer this and that etc. The first thing a man thinks and some women even when they see you is that you are a kpom. How do you know they haven't heard stories about you to treat you this way? I am not justifying what happened to you but tone down yourself and let your brains do the talking. Shebi they said you follow Arabs and oyibo which means your story true or false is out there. Also in Naija once you say you were a beauty contestant the first thing that comes to people's minds is kpom. To change that attitude work on yourself. Goodluck with freeing Nigerian women from slavery. You do know that among women there are many who will compromise just to get ahead in life. They don't care. Many of them are also beauty contestants.

  18. True talk

But sisi Karen, why are you angry at being called an "ashewo"? Aren't you the same person who went on twitter to complain about how Nigerian men lack "giving Head" skills? It says a lot about how many men you've slept with, for you to make such a sweeping statement.

  21. I like that 'a woman is earth, she brings life from inside her'. I totally relate to everything she has said. A single woman who is successful is mostly termed ashewo, no matter how glaringly hardworking she is. Worst off this is a generation that men are so openly lazy with reckless abandon. I work from 7 to 6 everyday and when I want to relax and enjoy the fruits of my hardwork someone tags me a derogatory name cos there is no man by my side. I always marvel at how men feel its their world when women still control them. If only every woman realizes the power she possess... The frustrating part in this fight she has taken upon herself is that women are their own greatest enemy.

  26. Well, if this lady feels she is not bin respected or treated as she ought to. She should check the way she dresses. Like she's not the only ex-bauty queen/beauty queen. There might be a loophole on her part as well. Disrespect doesn't just happen.

  28. I feel her pain, same thing happened to me! Men are wicked!

    ReplyDelete
  29. I understand her, and you shouldn't say the woman right groups have failed, because you are totally oblivious of their challenges:
    1. Women are too afraid to report these men or stand up for what's right, so they compromise and suffer in pain.
    2. The population of girls into runs and stuff like this makes men feel they all the same, especially for a beautiful lady like you
If you decide to start this cause, only few women who had been victims are going to be behind you, its fellow womeen that will be against you the most, (you wan spoil market), most of these girls has used it to get good jobs and go shopping all the world.
Its not only women that suffer stereotyping, young men with jeeps has been labelled "yahoo boys" even landlords refuse to give us their houses to rent.
But I can't compare what women go through to that of men, I'll encourage to help women discover that they can make it without these men, cos many of them feel their success is tied to them

  37. Take your pain and rants elsewhere, would you be treated as a ho if you don't carry yourself as one? Don't blame it on the society, blame it on your fellow women that would chase men around to get what they want.
I am a guy and don't harrass nobody but I cannot count how many times women have hit on me, even as a married man!
It is a terrible world we live in..go ahead, dare to be different but start the revolution with your women folk.

  39. Some people with negative comments here are just suffering from poverty mentality and others ignorance. Nothing justifies the arrant stupidity the landlord and agent exhibited. This is the real fight; getting rid of that ignorant mentality that allows one person abuse another in this country. So she asked fir hennessy and she has 2 million naira makes her a wgore abi? You people are so foolish and lack exposure.

  44. I swear she was on about the way Nigerian men can't eat pussy like they have diabetes and pussy has got insulin they need for survival in it on twitter. the truth is that she's raised an important, no woman should have to deal with sexual harassment. I have four sisters and I will probably kill any man that sexually harasses them, but then the truth is, my sisters will probably not be in situations, say things, dress in ways that will be suggestive. Ever heard of Jack the Ripper, he didn't kill well mannered girls for all we know, the least our ladies can do, his to accord some respects to themselves. Don't go on twitter and talk like some kinda sex goddess and when somebody grabs your arse and boobs you scream sexually harassment. and men, because some girl is dressed in a provocative manner doesn't give you the right to her body. even nowadays sef, men aint safe from sexual assault oo. God help us all. Leave the ladies alone, look away if she dress provocatively, if she says NO then its NO.
