Our Celebrities Oppress Us Instead Of Inspiring Us! Take A Cue From Lupita Nyong! Reader Writes

I was surfing online watching trailers of 12 years a slave and I saw a Kenyan lady transform from just an ordinary girl to an international celebrity, in the midst of all the people she had always admired and lending her voice. This tells me that success is not about where you come from or the people you know but the amount of hardwork you put to whatever you do. A lot of Nigerian actors are always about the new hair they just made, the latest car, Chanel bag etc.
Not trying to make themselves better or even challenging themselves physically and mentally. I did a little research on this lady and I discovered she was the lady in Shuga that was shot in Kenya and after Shuga, she still went to study more on her craft spending 3years in Yale school of drama.  A lot of our actors feel they know it all and are not interested in learning more.

I get irritated seeing what our celebrities are turning into. They don't inspire us rather they oppress us,  making our young girls think desperately on how to buy a chanel bag  rather than how to make the best out of their lives.

Please take a cue from this young lady she is only 31 and she is an inspiration to people that aspire to be an actor.

    3. No mind all those "Ashewo's" parading themselves as actresses. They are all disgrace to the entertainment industry in Nigeria. Most lack talent, all they know is open their legs for old and randy politicians and whoever can pay for their services. Lupita is a hardworking, very talented young lady, she is also willing to learn positively. I pray God continue to direct her paths. Abeg nollywood so-called stars should be humbled by this. #OVERandOUT

  12. He has a Valid point. After so much publicity on the movie "Two brides and a baby" I was very sad because : 1) The story line did not make so much sense, felt like an unfinished script.
    2) The location was horrible, this minute they are in an hotel, the next minute they are in a house
    3) That kinda drama cant happen a day before your wedding..
    4) Costume was very very poor..
This is just one of their many movies.
So they need to improve their craft, the world is evolving, they need to step-up their game and stop trying to be fashionistas.

  32. short but brilliant surmission from the writer, when i saw how this lady was being celebrated this was the first thought that crossed my mind…

Chiwetel ejiofor that is being celebrated today started full time acting over 20years ago and worked his bones off for this recognition not a Jim Iyke that used fake phonetics to turn into our own A list

they won't let us hear word Omotola in time magazine 100
    Genevieve rolex
    rita dominic with rihanna
this lady had never been hyped or honoured by these people but the fees she commands now Gnenevieve cannot smell it in 100 lifetimes even with her high class runs

Of the whole lot of them which of them have ever been able to get even a minor part in a hollywood production?

Most of them have zero talent in acting compounded by the fact that they allow the fake hype to get to them they now luxuriate in it thinking they are the real deal….

acting is serious business where you dedicate your life to acquiring knowledge and until professionals take over nollywoof from these glorified prostitutes and high class runs girls Nigeria will only be celebrated in form of quantity and not quality

  43. That she featured in a movie that did well at the box office does not mean she was paid heavily. American's usually pay base on your work experience .the good thing is that this humble beginning with the help of the success at the box office will now take her places. The moral of the story is that our over hyped celebrities don't strive to better themselves when it comes to improving their act. I give an example with our mighty omotola debuting her so called America tv appearance , I cried to see her as a waka pass. She just muttered thank you darling and was not even on their end credit. This goes to show that our nollywood stars have a very long way to go. They should stop with this their cheap publicity already. You will hear how an actress spent the night in a half a million naira hotel. How come their male counterparts don't have the kind money the females have. It goes to show that they are misleading the young minds because the so called money the flaunt is not from the money they make from acting...

  49. Its very much annoying that some characters out there can never look at the truth and stand by it. i have been an executive producer for almost10 years. based on experience, the nollywood is going down to its worst situation, following the habitual desire of money making, fake life , lies deceit , you just name them..

There is no moral justification to be achieved in actors and actresses . prostitution is no longer a crime, all the high ranked native doctors receives 30% of their earnings including the so call big names, Production is very poor because they use charms even on stage to command the producers and decides when and how to do the job they were paid to do.

One of the occasions i visited, i saw some A list characters fighting over a role and heard different comments like: 'You think you know how to fuck, that charm wey you put for your body fuck am, i go show you say my own strong pass am'.

What inspiration are they dropping for the youth, what legacy will they leave behind? , There is nothing inspiring coming out there only bragging for houses when some are in rented apartment etc.
Lets tell ourselves the truth, The Nollywood needs to wake up and turn a new leave, i believe they can change because there are good ones among, but those are not really chanced to progress.

I am a Nigerian, I love Nigeria, i love our culture and my people, i love Nollywood, Please lets use our talents to make our people proud and enhance our cultural heritage. God bless Nigeria. Mayor

no person in the whole of nigeria movie scene is uo to this girl class. no genny or omotola. the respect this girl command worldwide, not genny or omotola can command that respect as of now.
