Lagos! Woman Gets 26 Stitches After Husband Beats Her Severely Over A Piece Of Fish

Mrs. Fatima Bankole, 34, has been battered by her husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, for daring to take a piece of fish from the pot to break her fast some days ago. The victim is the first of his three wives, at their residence in Alasia, Ijanikin in Lagos State.

The attack happened on  the 16th of July, when the third wife reported to their husband that their senior wife took a piece of fish from the soup to break her fast. The husband, according to witnesses, did not listen to her excuse before attacking her.

According to the victim, Mrs. Fatima Bankole, their husband had always physically abused her, but the incident of  July 16th was more brutal.

She narrated that they had made a roster between two wives, due to the absence of the third wife who was away at the period, to cook for 15 days each. The victim said she had completed her period, and it was turn of the last wife. She said they would normally serve the husband first, followed by the children before the wives would serve themselves.

On the day she was to be attacked, Mrs. Fatima said the last wife had finished her cooking and served their husband and the children. She then went for her own meal.

But soon after, the last wife complained to her husband that Fatima took a larger chunk of the fish in the pot. Their husband, Alhaji Kamoru Bankole, queried her, but she said that she only took a little out of it, stating that the fish was in pieces and mixed in the stew. Her explanations, however, got her in trouble with their husband. Alhaji Kamoru, she details, delivered several punches to her face. She said she bled for hours and was further locked up in a room for three days before she escaped.

She said neighbors then took her to the hospital for treatment. That was the cruelest from her history of experience of assault by their husband, Mrs. Fatima said. From experiences she recounted, she recalled how her hair was pulled out of her head, which resulted in grievous head injuries.

Saharareporters learned that police have now arrested the husband, following outcry and petitions by the Women Arise civil group in Lagos. He will be arraigned in court next week.

  15. This Women Arise Civil Group need to be careful how they are going about interfering with family matters.
If they continue interfering in issues like this, they will be ending up disrupting a lot of families.

This is a family problem and family problems are best left alone for the families to solve.

Now that this group got the husband arrested, they better start looking for another husband for this woman because the present husband could decide to do away with this woman once he is out of jail.

Husbands need not be thrown in jail for petty family issues like this. At least not in a country like Nigeria.

Agreed, the husband need to be able to control his anger, but this woman also need to learn how to wait for her turn.

Her sneaking behind the other wife to dip her hands into the family bowl of soup is what got her into this problem.

Maybe she thought because she is the most senior wife, she could do what ever wanted.
Well, that is not how it goes. She may be the most senior wife, but the youngest wife is always the most influential wife in set up like this.

Now, instead of her to complain to a senior member of her husband' family, she decided to involve an outside group of people. And now she has ended up putting up her husband in a place like a prison where the husband is now mixing with criminals when he is not a criminal.

Spousal abuse is not good and should be condemned in all it's entirety but this woman is partly responsible for her problems here and I bet you the problem is more than a bowl of fish as we are being made to believe.

It is only a senior family member who can go in, find out what the real issues are and solve the problems here.

    2. Olu@atlanta, from your comments it is obvious that you are a man that was raised in a violent home, a home with no love. This woman provoked nobody and all she wanted to do was eat. This man is a petty weakling (like yourself) that involved himself in a very petty issue

    4. Before I even finished reading this comment I knew it was from Olu. Only someone as daft and clueless as him would call 26 stitches a petty family issue. I honestly wonder how this person was raised. Who are your parents Olu? What did they do to deserve an animal like you? Rather pathetic situation.

    5. The problem is that most of us always allow our emotion to take control of our reasoning.
Instead of us using our brain to think, we start thinking using our various hearts.

When the chips are down and pushing becomes shoving and this woman is driven out of her matrimonial home by her husband or her husband ' family because their son/breadwinner is jailed because of this woman; are you guys ready to house and take care of this woman?

Is any one here ready to start taking care of this woman' children if she has any?
Is any member of this Women Arise Civil Group(politicians in camouflage) willing and ready to take charge of financing this woman' life, and sending this woman's kids to school?

Do we have shelters for abused women in Nigeria like they have abroad?
Even, if we do, how long is she going to be living there and be supported by a government who could not even pay retirement benefits of those that served them? A government that cannot even pay unemployment benefits to those who don't have jobs?
A government that could not take adequate care of minors that are being raped everyday in Nigeria.

I can bet my last kobo all of you including the government will go AWOL when the chips are down.

When the chips are down and she is discarded like a worn out piece of rag; what do you guys think will happen to her children?

Don't you guys think that her children will probably become slaves to the other wife who would not even share a piece of fish with her?

Is this what you guys want for her?

This woman is not an independent strong woman.
She is one of those muslim women who are always under purdah( what we Yorubas called "abeabo") who can't even go out as they like.

She is like one those women around Idi-Araba and Agege who stays in houses where you will see " Ba shiga " boldly written at the entrance.( the non-Hausa speakers here can always find out what that means because I ain't disclosing to nobody what that means)

She is a woman with no education and no means of survival without the husband but no one here can see the futility in causing her husband to go to prison.

She is one those women being kept for sex, mating, personal care of husbands and no more.
That is nothing but the truth and I am not hating here.
If not, why would there be a fight over a bowl of fish which can easily be purchased by any wife who works selling only pure water on the road side?

These are the questions that you all, including those Politicians in camouflage that labeled themselves Women Arise Civil Group need to find answers to before you all cause the dissolution of this woman's marriage and permit her rival to destroy the lives of her children.

Though, I kind of agree that one might make attempt to train this type of women at this stage to be self sufficient, strong and independent. That in itself is a tough challenge, because most women like this woman are freaking lazy and too much in their comfort zone to make their lives better. That is the truth. No hating here please.

As per all the people abusing me, some even claiming i must be from an abusive environment, that my father must have been a polygamist, that they pity my future wife, bla bla bla, I have decided to take a 5th in responding.

There is no need to respond because I know who I am. It is of no relevance here. What is relevant here is people using their brain before writing trash and causing more trouble for this woman.

If you honestly believe you are using your brain here by encouraging a situation where the husband can end up in prison, no qualms as nobody have monopoly of wisdom.

But you guys need to look at the bigger picture of events that will develop as a result of what ever is happening to this woman and her family right now. As long as the end justifies the means, and she and her kids comes out fine, it's all good. No sweating at all.

    7. Oluatlanta,

The validity of a speech does not lie in how long the speech is... If I get you right... You think the woman should not have eaten if she did not want to be beaten ba?

If the family of the guy are so bent on punishing the real culprit here... they should send their son on exile.. A man that beats a woman for any reason deserves to go to jail..PERIOD!! The act of beating people is ridiculous....

So are you saying that at work, men don't come across worse issues and bear with a smiling face.

For you to think that the woman should have 'behaved' a certain kind of way if she wants to avoid being beaten or worse off ... be taken care of by this goat .... is a slap on the face of the woman that raised you... Raised you is being questioned here..

So because she wants to be able to eat left over fish, she should endure beatings, poor treatment and second hand preferences by the man.

I am sorry for you if you indeed believe the foolishness you spew here.. Pele... Talk with your mum, if she is still alive...Ask her what happened to you when you were young... that resulted in this mindframe... Trust me .. if it is not NORMAL!!
