SSS Replies Ezekwesili, We Were Only Doing Our Job

The Department of State Security, DSS, has replied Obiageli Ezekwesili’s accusation of arresting her yesterday at the Abuja Airport that they were only doing what was required of them- their job.
A spokesperson for the department, Marilyn Ogar accused the former minister of arrogance and display of unnecessary self-importance while they were carrying out their job.

“I don’t know why some people will sometimes arrogate to themselves unnecessary importance when we have serious security challenges in our hands. Government has asked the SSS to be at the airports. Statutorily, SSS clears all passengers travelling out or coming into the country”, Marilyn said.

It will be recalled that the SSS held Ezekwesili for about 30mins by seizing her travelling documents early hours of yesterday morning as she was about jetting out to London.

  2. I hope the arrest was not an act of intimidation on the part of the government?

  3. The security situation in the country has changed the way we now relate with one another. Everyone is now a suspect in a once very peaceful country; not thanks to sponsors of BH

  5. Is the president now trying to fight perceived enemies or what? How can Ezekwesili be an enemy of the state?

  6. If the law says you must subject to security checks at the airport, then so be it

  7. Why Oby?. Were others stop and detained on that day at the airport, if so no qualms but if Oby is only one stopped and detained among all the passengers boarding that flight that's intimidation

  8. If your job is to check and clear passengers as claimed. It takes less than 5 minutes to do that. Why delay her for more than 30 minutes and cease her passport? lets not fool ourselves here, every of their action is influenced by the government to intimidate anybody that is not on the government's side.

  20. These people really do take us for fools though. I mean do they actually seize everyone traveling in/out of the country's passport or what? I mean you are meant to check her body and belongings with the scans and all and not seize passports. It behoves me the sudden hastened decision to scrutinize Madam Ezeks after all she has always traveled before now. Abi they were checking to make sure she didnt leave the country with any evidence to show to the "Hard Talk" audience? Hahaha... Nigerian democracy is still quite young...i'm sure we'll get there someday.

  22. People, please think! Is the big lady an ordinary citizen? If she was, she ceased to be ordinary the day she waded into the territory of the Chibok abductions. Whether we like it or not, she is liable to have information that may interest the SSS, even if she was only jetting off to buy guguru and ekpa at Heathrow or wherever her destination was. Let me tell you guys now. The day you sound off dangerously to whatever power that may be, you will enter into the SSS book of surveillance. That is how government works anywhere in the world. Truth be told. I am not a government apologist, sha!

  23. Nigerians! Humble thyselves. In times like this, don't open give these security agents added complications. I bet you the process might have been quicker if she wasn't resisting that process. If something bad had happened thru oby we would all turn around to criticize govt for not carrying out proper checks on "big men/women". Let them do their work
