It Is Illegal For Churches & Mosques To Make HIV Test Mandatory Before Marriage In Ekiti- Doherty

According to Vanguard, it is now an offence in Ekiti State for places of worship like churches and mosques to compel prospective couples to take mandatory HIV/AIDS tests before joining them in marriage.

It is equally an offence to expose results of such tests to other parties before the person tested knows his or her status.

Project Manager of Ekiti State Action Committee on AIDS Dr Charles Olusegun Doherty made this known in Ado Ekiti on Wednesday during the commemoration of year 2014 Worlds Aids Day and awareness programme.

‘It is illegal for any individual or organization especially religious bodies to mandate people to go for HIV/AIDs screening exercise.

‘’Also, the results should be given to the individuals concerned, even a couple should be treated individually, he said.

    1. It is very important. Why should a man with HIV lie to his partner that he is safe and marry her just because the partner can not confirm his true status before marriage. It should be made mandatory

  6. It's for their safety. But making the result known especially if any of them has it to third parties is not good.

  7. It can't be. You're not forced to get married in church. If you want to make it a secret....opt out and go for traditional marriage.

Do your best and leave the rest

    1. Really? So that the whole state can be full of AIDS? Don't you think they will also transfer it to other states? Then the whole of Nigeria? Why is everything wrong with Ekiti State. The gods are indeed angry with them
