Oyo Lawmaker Assasinated

Gideon Aremu, Chairman, Oyo State House of Assembly Committee on Information and Security, has been shot dead. He was shot dead yesterday evening around 9pm at the entrance of his residence by two gunmen on a motorbike.

The wife of the deceased was opening the gate for him when the unfortunate incident happened.

The armed men waited several minutes afterwards to ensure he was dead and took away just his cell phone.

The spokesman for the State Police Command, Adekunle Ajisebutu, confirmed the assassination of the lawmaker. Mr. Ajisebutu said the Commissioner of Police in the State had directed the commencement of thorough investigation into the killing. May his soul rest in peace.

Ryan Giggs Bows Out Of Manchester

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has bowed out of Old Trafford after 29 years. In a departure statement, Giggs backed Mourinho to succeed at United and he also thanked Sir Alex Ferguson and Louis van Gaal for their influence on his career but failed to mention David Moyes.

The 42-year-old also confirmed that the next stage of his career was to become a manager.

Internet In Tears After Man Surprises Wife On Her Final Chemo Treatment With 500 Flowers

Brad Bousquet clearly felt a bouquet of flowers was not enough for his wife Alissa. He wanted to do something special for his wife to celebrate her last chemotherapy treatment.

Brad raised money and surprised Alissa with 500 flowers and the touching moment has been caught on video.Brad secretly texted his wife’s friends and family to help with the effort.

The roses sold for $10 with the proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation for breast cancer research. He says the rose drive raised more than $4,500. The flowers were also shared with other patients at the hospital.

Sharing the video to YouTube, Brad wrote: “Surprising my wife at her last chemotherapy with 500 roses!”

The touching footage has had over 24,7000 views with many people in tears.

Austrian Town BANS Muslim Women From Wearing Burkini

The Austrian town of Hainfeld has put a stop to the total-body swimsuit - complete with head covering - triggered by the country’s far-right Freedom Party.

Peter Terzer, a local town councillor, said: “It can be ensured, that no person wearing a burkini can enter the pool.
“In respect to the bathing rules, we are completely pleased with the adopted variant. Nothing in particular has prompted the ban, however, the bathing rules have been in place for decades already.”

He said the ban was based on sanitation grounds, so the pool water could meet strict hygiene regulations.

It comes after a public swimming pool in Neutraubling near Regensburg, Germany banned Muslim women from wearing the full body swimsuit after complaints from non-Islamic bathers.

Cannabis 'Atms' To Open In Jamaica's Airports & Harbours

In a bid to cash in on the drug after it was decriminalized last February, Jamaica is planning to open cannabis 'ATMs' in its airports and harbours allowing tourists the chance to get hold of weed as soon as they arrive in the country.

The Cannabis Licensing Authority (CLA) has now started to look at ways to introduce these dedicated desks where visitors can pick up a licence for the 'good herb'.

It is currently legal to carry up to two ounces of weed in Jamaica, although police do still have the power to issue anyone in possession with a ticket and a J$500 (£2.98) fine.

5 Dead As Gunman Opens Fire On Wife, Crowded Cafe

At least five people are reported to have been killed and 20 wounded after a gunman opened fire in a cafe in Serbia.

The man burst into the building armed with an assault rifle just before 2.00am local time in the early hours of this morning.

The attack happened in a small village near to the town of Zrenjanin, 30 miles northwest of the capital, Belgrade. Children are said to be among those injured.

Police say the suspect was arrested at the scene and he remains in custody.

FG Declares Nutritional Emergency In Borno IDPs

To meet the welfare needs of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) in camps, the Federal Government has declared a nutritional emergency in Borno State.

The move is to mobilize a rapid response team to coordinate efforts to ameliorate the worsening situation in the camps.

The Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Laolu Akande, said in a statement on Friday that the Presidency has sent a delegation to assess situation in IDPs camps in Bama, Borno State.

IG Deploys Policemen, Helicopter To Flush Out Vandals At Arepo

The acting Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, has deployed the Tactical Operation Unit, comprising of the Police Mobile Force, the Counter-Terrorism Unit and the Air Surveillance Team to flush out vandals and other criminal elements operating in Arepo and Ibafo areas of Ogun State.

Idris said the deployment of the unit in the areas on Thursday was to ensure that normalcy returns to them in record time.

A statement on Friday in Abuja by the Force Public Relations Officer, Don Awunah, quoted the IG as saying that the Nigeria Police Force would not watch any criminal group(s) take law into their hands, adding that he had authorised the team to deal decisively with anyone who constitutes himself as an enemy of the state.

He also asked residents of the areas who had fled to return home and go about their normal businesses as the police would deal with the criminals.

SSS Arrests Suspected Abductor Of Missing Abuja Girl

Operatives of the State of State Services (SSS) have arrested, Mr. Cornelius Ubara, the suspected abductor of 16-year old Miss Precious Osuji, who got missing from her home in Kapwa, a suburb of Lugbe in Abuja on November 13, 2015.

The suspect was until the sudden disappearance of Precious a tenant of her parents and lived with them in the same premises.

A 52-year-old evangelist, John Arinze, has been arrested by the The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency over his attempt to export N1.4bn worth of narcotics to South Africa.

The drugs, made of 92kgs of methamphetamine and 73kgs of ephedrine, were detected inside two containers of foodstuff meant for export to South Africa at the Apapa Seaport in Lagos.

A statement by the NDLEA spokesperson, Mitchell Ofoyeju, on Friday said the suspect, who is a Nigerian based in South Africa, was under interrogation following an intense undercover operation by the agency and that he had confessed to the crime. He added that sniffer dogs belonging to the agency detected the drugs during screening operation.

Indian Official Resigns After A Photo Of Her Smiling With A Rape Victim Goes Viral

An Indian official has resigned after she and another women's rights advocate were pictured taking a smiling selfie with a rape victim.

First emerging on the phone messaging service WhatsApp, the pictures were taken when members of the Rajasthan Commission for Women met the victim at a police station on Wednesday.

The woman had reported that she had been raped by her husband and two other relatives who also allegedly tattooed profanities on her forehead and hand for failing to produce a dowry of Rs 51,000, about $755.

Man Who Stabbed Mayor Of Cologne In The Neck Jailed

A man who stabbed the Mayor of Cologne in the neck a day before she was elected has been convicted of attempted murder and jailed for 14 years.

A state court in Duesseldorf found 45-year-old, Frank S, tried to kill Henriette Reker for her welcoming stance to refugees.

The attack came in October last year at the height of Germany's refugee influx while Ms Reker was head of refugee housing in Cologne.

It left Ms Reker seriously injured.

Rare Chinese Vase Used As Door-Stop Auctioned For £650,000 In Derby

An 18th Century Chinese vase that was used as a door-stop at a house by a Birmingham family has been sold for £650,000 at auction.

Hansons believe the vase was made during the reign of Emperor Qianlong between 1735 and 1799.

It had been valued at £300,000-£500,000 before the auction in Derby.

The seller inherited the vase from a great aunt who acquired it during her life in Cornwall in the 1920s, it is believed.

Charles Hanson, of Hansons, said earlier: "We've had significant interest across China and Taiwan and Hong Kong. We've had buyers fly in from these regions to view the vase. We've had telephones lines booked and it's just quite remarkable."

Seven Men Sentenced To 19 Years Imprisonment For Rape Of School Girl In Chad

Seven men have been sentenced to 10 years for the rape and kidnapping a schoolgirl in the Chadian capital, Ndjamena.

Some of the men come from families with close links to the government. One has escaped from custody.

The victim, Zouhoura, is the daughter of an opposition leader and was threatened with death if she spoke about the attack.

A video of her rape sparked a wave of protests in Chad in February. The high-profile case even got Chad's long-serving President Idriss Deby involved.

The former head of Sierra Leone's army, Major-General Nelson Williams, has been kidnapped in Kaduna state.

Maj-Gen Williams, Sierra Leone's Deputy High Commissioner to Nigeria, was believed to have been travelling there for a ceremony at a military base.

Sierra Leone's information minister says the Nigerian authorities had assured him they were doing all they could to rescue Maj-Gen Williams.

Osama Bin Laden’s Successor Threatens America

Al Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahri has warned the United States of the "gravest consequences" if Boston marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev or any other Muslim prisoner is executed.

Tsarnaev, named in a new online video message from Zawahri, was sentenced last year to death by lethal injection for the 2013 bomb attack, which killed three people and injured more than 260.

“If the U.S. administration kills our brother the hero Dzhokhar Tsarnaev or any Muslim, it ... will bring America’s nationals the gravest consequences,” Zawahri said.

Zawahri, who became al Qaeda's leader after U.S. forces killed Osama bin Laden in 2011, urged Muslims to take captive as many Westerners as possible, especially those whose countries had joined the "Crusaders' Campaign led by the United States".

Manchester United Confirm Zlatan Ibrahimovic's Signing

Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Zlatan Ibrahimovic on a one-year contract.
Ibrahimovic took it upon himself to announce on Thursday that he had agreed to joined United, posting a message on Instagram that read: “Time to let the world know. My next destination is Manchester United.”

The 34-year-old travelled to Manchester today to wrap up the free transfer and United released a statement in the evening stating Ibrahimovic was their man. It read: “Manchester United is delighted to announce the signing of Swedish international striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Ibrahimovic, 34, made 180 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain, scoring 156 goals. He has won championships in four different leagues since beginning his professional career with Malmo in 1999. Gunmen Shouting "Allahu Akbar" Storm Bangladesh Restaurant, Take Several Hostage

At least eight gunmen 'shouting "Allahu Akbar"' have stormed a popular cafe in the diplomatic area of the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka, taking a number of them hostage.

Several foreigners are among those being held by eight or nine armed men in the city's Gulshan district, as you read this.

A police officer has been killed and at least five others injured in a gun battle, a spokesman said.

Islamic State has now said they carried out the attack. A statement on the group's self-styled news agency Amaq said militants had attacked a restaurant "frequented by foreigners". It said that more than 20 people "of different nationalities" had been killed but this was not confirmed.

Security forces say they are trying to negotiate the hostages' release.

Bus Kills Twin Sisters On Their Way To School In Ogun

Two children of the same parents were today crushed to death on their way to school by a commercial bus in Ita Oshin area of Abeokuta, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) says.

The accident, according to an eyewitness, occurred at about 8. a.m. while the children were on their way to school. Witnesses say the bus lost control and ran over the students, killing two of the twin sisters and injuring their older brother.

The girls were aged 8, and the brother is 14.

Aftermath Of Maryland Crisis, Ambode Declares Total Ban On Street Hawking

The Lagos State Government today stated that from July 1st, 2016, it would commence a total enforcement against street trading and street hawkers.

Speaking live on Television Continental, Mr. Ambode said that the renewed enforcement is in line with Section One of the Lagos State Street Trading and Illegal Market Prohibition Law 2003 which restricts street trading and hawking in the metropolis.

The Governor, while sympathizing with the family of a street hawker who was knocked down by an articulated truck while trying to evade arrest from officials of Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) along Maryland Bus stop on Wednesday, regretted that the situation led to the destruction of public assets.

Court Grants Fintiri N500m Bail

The Federal High Court, Abuja, has granted former Adamawa Acting Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, bail in the sum of N500 million with two sureties in like sum for alleged money laundering. The former governor is being prosecuted by the EFCC on a five count charge of money laundering of N2. 9 billion.

The judge however said he should be remanded in prison pending fulfillment of his bail conditions.

5-Year Old Girl Dies In Dublin After Gate Fell On Her

Sienna Joyce was outside playing when a gate collapsed on top of her in Ashbourne, County Meath.
The accident happened at around 7.10pm and Sienna was taken to Temple Street Children's Hospital, Dublin, where she eventually passed away.

Sienna had been going to St Margaret's National School in Finglas and was just finishing her first year of school when the unfortunate incident happened.

It is the second tragedy to hit the Joyce family in recent years as her four-year-old cousin Logan Joyce drowned in the National Aquatic Centre in Blanchardstown four years ago.
