Gunman Kills Four During Xmas Carol In Kaduna

A gunman on Friday night killed four persons in Nindem village, Jema’a local government area of Kaduna State.

The incident which occurred during the village Christmas carol also left about 10 other people injured.

Confirming the incident in a statement, the spokesman for the Operation Safe Haven, Col. I.K. Ekpeyong, said the gunman invaded Godogodo village as the residents were holding a Christmas carol at the community square at about 9:00 p.m. and started shooting sporadically.

He said four persons were killed and eight others injured in the incident.

15 Injured In Lagos Auto Crash

At least 15 passengers comprising 10 males and five females were seriously injured on Saturday after two vehicles collided on the Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.

It was gathered that four of the victims passed out and were rushed to the Accident and Emergency Centre for stabilisation.

According to an eyewitness, the accident was caused by over speeding by a commercial bus.

It was gathered that the 14-passenger bus lost control and rammed into an articulated vehicle laden with stones.

Scarcity: Transport Fare Rises By 100% In Ibadan

As the scarcity of petrol persists in Ibadan, transport fare has gone up by 100 per cent, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

However, in spite of the fuel shortage, NAN observed there were there scores of people at some motor parks, who were set to travel home for this festive season.

At the new Ife road park, the transport fare to Ile-Ife, Osogbo, Ilesa, which previously cost N500, N600 and N700, now attracts N1,000, N1, 200 and N1, 500 respectively.

The fare from Ibadan to Akure, has increased from N1,100 to N2, 200 while to Owo and Akoko, it has gone up from N1, 500 to N3, 000.

Man Arrested For Slashing Girlfriend’s Throat

The Katsina State Police Command said on Saturday it has arrested a 23 year-old man, Abubakar Musa, who slashed the throat of his girlfriend, Aisha Dikkom.

Mr Benson Gwana, the State Commissioner of Police, made this known to newsmen on Saturday in Katsina while parading the suspect.

Gwana said the suspect confessed committing the crime because the girl was planning to jilt him and marry another person. According to him, the suspect confessed to the police that he cut the throat of the victim with intent to kill her.

Gunmen Kill Woman In Aba For Resisting Kidnap

A woman who was simply identified as Mrs. Ifeyinwa Morah has reportedly been shot dead by gunmen suspected to be kidnappers in Aba, the commercial nerve of Abia State.

The Nation learnt that the incident happened in front of the residential quarters of late Morah, an indigene of Abatete, Idemili Local Government Area of Anambra State at about 7pm on Wednesday.

Sources around the area told their reporter that the woman was coming home from her husband’s gas plant along Aba-Umuahia-Enugu Expressway when some men wielding guns ordered her out of her car.

It was learnt that the gunmen were already waiting for late Mrs. Morah to enter her car in an attempt to drive off with her, but she resisted them.

The Labour Party said on Saturday it would provide Nigerians with a viable alternative to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2019 general elections.

The party said both the APC and PDP have failed Nigerians in their efforts to deliver good governance to the people.

Nasarawa Increases Retirees’ Pension To N5, 000

The Director-General of Nasarawa State Pension Bureau, Mr. Abdullahi Sani-Oseze, said on Saturday the state government has increased the minimum pension of retirees to N5, 000.

Sani-Oseze, who disclosed this in Lafia, said government made the adjustment in order to make life more meaningful for pensioners in the state.

He said some workers, who retired from active service before the implementation of minimum wage in the state, were receiving as low as N1, 000 as their monthly pension.

Sani- Oseze said: “So we consider the plight of this category of pensioners and reported to Governor Umaru Al-Makura, who directed that there should be an upward review of their pensions.

IG Bans SARS From Stop And Search Operations

The Inspector-General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has banned the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force from conducting stop and search operations on roads except when necessary.

Recall that some group of Nigerians recently in the social media, called for the scrapping of SARS over alleged harassment of innocent Nigerians, using the #EndSARS.

Following the allegation, the Inspector- General of Police , Mr Ibrahim Idris, promised to restructure and reposition the unit for effective service delivery.

The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) is getting tough with marketers found to be hoarding fuel as the current scarcity bites harder nationwide. At the last count, no fewer than 48 filling stations have been shut down in Delta, Kwara and Ekiti states alone.

However, the price of petrol rose to N400 per litre yesterday in Abuja as more citizens travelled out of their stations for the Christmas celebration.

Many motorists even passed the night at filling stations in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in their desperation to buy fuel.

It’s between N200 and N250 per litre in Lagos and Ogun states.

Tragedy struck in Agoloma community in Patani Local Government Area of Delta State penultimate Thursday when a midnight fire burnt a young lady identified simply as Bridget Sampou Oyindoubra to death.

The incident, according to sources happened shortly after Bridget returned from an end of the year prayer meeting in her church.

It was gathered that Bridget, who was a chorister in the  church attended the pre-Passover prayer meeting with her friends and returned home late in the night.

It was also learnt that on her return, Bridget immediately went to bed and locked the door to her apartment.

Petrol Selling For N250-N300 Per Litre In Anambra

The supply and price of Petrol in Anambra have worsened as customers now pay between N250 and N300 per litre in the state.

Most filling stations in Awka and its environs had the product but refused to dispense.

However, the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) monitoring and enforcing the situation, compelled marketers to sell the product at the government regulated price of N145 per litre.

The team, which came from Enugu Office, also sealed 12 filling stations, including an NNPC mega station for hoarding the product.

Police Declare Oil Dealer Wanted Over Badoo Killings

The police in Lagos have said that a popular oil marketer, identified as Alhaji Alaka Abayomi Kamal, is the prime suspect in the Badoo cult killings in Ikorodu and Epe areas of the state.

The state command has now declared him wanted, indicating in a statement by its spokesperson, Mr. Chike Oti, on Friday that the 51-year-old suspect was on the run.

Kamal, the owner of Alaka Petroleum, “is wanted in connection with series of well-orchestrated killings and nefarious activities of the Badoo cult group,” the statement said.

The cult was known for its modus operandi of smashing the heads of its victims with mortars, pestles or large stones. In a killing spree, that created panic in the state few months ago, children, men and women were murdered by suspected members of the group.

EFCC Arrests Fake Investigator Who Attempted To Defraud Gov. Al Makura

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission Friday, arrested one Mohammed Momoh, a farmer, for attempting to defraud the governor of Nasarawa State, Alhaji Tanko Al- Makura.

The suspect while posing as a “Private investigator from the Villa“ had approached the wife of the governor with a proposition to help stop a purported investigation of two accounts belonging to the governor, by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission.

He claimed he came across information regarding the two accounts that had been under investigation since 2011 and also intercepted mails and gotten wind of investigation report purportedly sent to First Bank by the EFCC.

The suspect had requested for N8 million but was offered N6 million. Suspicious about the proposal, the governor’s family contacted the Commission and were asked to play along with the suspect.

Ondo Monarch Sentenced To Two Years In Prison

A traditional ruler in Ondo State, Oba Pius Akinfesola Adewola, would spend this yuletide period in prison as a Chief Magistrate Court in the state sentenced him to two years imprisonment over allegation of fraudulent conversion, and obtaining money under false pretense.

Adewola who is the traditional ruler of lgburowo Community in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State was sent to prison by an Ore Chief Magistrate court.

Delivering judgement on the matter, the presiding Magistrate, O. J. Adelegan, said, “from the antecedents so far garnered on the record, the convict appears to me, a conscienceless person, who has no iota of regret, indulging in such an opprobrious and despicable act”.

15-Year-Old Wife Poisons Husband, Half-Brother

A 15-year-old housewife, Dausiya Abdulmuminu, has been arrested by the Katsina State Police Command for allegedly poisoning her husband, Samilu Usman, 27, and half-brother, Mohammed Abdulmuminu, leading to their death.

Spokesperson for the command, DSP Gambo Isah, while confirming the incident in a chat with journalists on Friday, said that the lady had been detained at the Bakori Police Division.

Abdulmuminu allegedly committed the offence on December 18 at the Dan Mayaki village in Bakori Local Government Area of the state.

A middle-aged man who pretended to be mentally ill has been apprehended in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Punch correspondent learnt that the man, whose name could not be ascertained, as of the time of filing this report, was apprehended near the state Ministry of Environment and Forestry along the Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin.

Sources said when he was searched, a cheque of N100m, pictures he allegedly took with top politicians in Nigeria, four automated teller machine cards, male and female condoms, Valium injections and Infinix Hot 5 phone were found on him.

The sources said the man, who would have been lynched by a mob, was rescued by another man dressed in a native attire.

Ayo Fayose Signs Ekiti 2018 Budget

Ekiti State Governor, Ayo Fayose, today signed the N98.6billion 2018 budget into law. The 2018 budget was passed by the state House of Assembly on December 19.

Signing the Appropriation Bill at the Government House, Ado Ekiti, Fayose hailed the legislators for prompt passage of the budget.

Fayose said: “This is the last budget I will sign as governor of Ekiti having done the little God has helped me to do. I commend the Assembly for standing by me. It is my prayer that this Assembly will continue to grow from strength to strength.

“You have demonstrated responsible leadership. I’m not in doubt record will show you as one of the best Assemblies we ever had in the history of Ekiti.”

Innoson Withdraws Motion Against EFCC, GTB

The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday granted an application by Innoson Nigeria Limited and its Chief Executive Officer/Managing Director, Mr. Innocent Chukwuma, to withdraw an ex-parte motion they filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC) and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.

They had sought injunctive reliefs against the commission, Attorney-General of the Federation, the Police, the Inspector-General of Police and Guaranty Trust Bank Plc.

Among others, Innoson alleged that his arrest and detention by the EFCC was instigated by GTBank.
He has since been released from detention.

When the case, filed on Thursday, came up before Justice Rabiu Hadiza Shagari on Friday, GTBank’s lawyer Adebowale Kamoru, urged the court not to hear the ex-parte motion.

EFCC Arrests 13 Suspected Internet Fraudsters

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested 13 suspected Internet fraudsters for conspiracy, possession of fraudulent documents and obtaining money under false pretence.

Spokesman of the commission, Mr Wilson Uwujaren, who disclosed this in a statement today, said the Lagos zonal office of the anti-graft agency effected the arrests.

“They were arrested on Saturday, Dec. 16, 2017, in some parts of Lagos and Ogun states, following intelligence report received by the commission about their activities.

“The suspects allegedly confessed to being involved in phishing, love scam, forgery, spoofing and business email compromise, among other offences,” he said.

Father Christmas' Dies During School Party

A man dressed in a Father Christmas costume collapsed and died today while handing out presents at a Christmas school party in southern Italy for pupils aged around 11-13.

The Gino Rossi Vairo institute in Agropoli, a seaside town about 100 kilometres south-east of Naples, told dpa that the cause of death was not known.

The ANSA news agency named the victim as Pasquale Pagano, 45. A local newspaper,, quoted the mother of one of the pupils as saying that his face turned blue, suggesting that Pagano may have had a heart attack.

"An ambulance was called and they tried everything to save his life but there was nothing they could do for him," the mother, whose name was not published, told the paper.

Fuel Scarcity: Stop Punishing Nigerians, PDP Tells President Buhari

The Peoples Democratic Party has challenged President Muhammadu Buhari, as Minister of Petroleum Resources, to find a quick solution to the lingering fuel scarcity now ravaging many parts of the country.

It called on the President to stop punishing Nigerians. The PDP, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary,  Mr. Kola Ologbondiyan, on Friday, in Abuja, insisted that it was wrong for the President to sit in his comfort zone and put the blames of the fuel scarcity at the doorsteps of marketers, while Nigerians continue to suffer untold hardship.

The statement said, “The unbearable fuel situation in the country is completely unacceptable. Mr. President must become up and doing. He should not allow anybody to push him to claim that the issue of fuel scarcity is not under the purview of the Minister of Petroleum Resources.

Natalie Lewis-Hoyle was found by her mother, Maldon councillor Miriam Lewis.

An ambulance was called and police attended the scene at the family home in Beeches Road, Heybridge on Friday, December 15.

At the opening of an inquest into her death this morning, a post mortem revealed that the 28-year-old died as a result of compression of the neck consistent with hanging.

Osun Workers Declare Strike Over Half Salary

Workers in Osun State have declared their intention to begin an indefinite strike following  the refusal of the state government to revert to paying them full salary and arrears despite the receipt of the third tranche of N6.3 billion Paris Club loan refund.

The workers under the umbrella of the Osun State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council gave the strike notice in a statement issued today following an emergency meeting of labour leaders on Thursday.

The notice of strike was signed by the Chairman JPSNC, Bayo Adejumo; Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress, Tunde Adekomi and the Trade Union Congress Chairman, Bowale Adekola and leaders of various affiliate unions.

Fire Guts Abuja NAFDAC Office

An early morning fire hit the headquarters of the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control in Abuja on Friday.

However, the fire has been curtailed.The National Emergency Management Agency confirmed that the fire had been extinguished. The fire is believed to have been caused by an electrical fault.

A teenage Mexican YouTube star who insulted a notorious drug lord has been shot dead. Juan Luis Lagunas Rosales posted a video when he was drunk aimed at Nemesio Ocegera Cervantes, also known as 'El Mencho'.

The 17-year-old can he heard saying 'El Mencho can suck my d**k' to Cervantes, 51, one of Mexico's most dangerous drug lords and the leader of the New Generation Cartel of Jalisco.

Wife Of Nigerian Doctor Admits Having S*x With 17-Year-Old Student

A South Carolina math teacher and tennis coach was arrested this week after a 17-year-old student said he had a sexual relationship with her, authorities said.

Jennifer Danielle Olajire-Aro, 27, faces one count of sexual battery with a student 16 or 17 years of age, according to court records. She was arrested on Monday and has been ordered not to have contact with the victim, his family or students at the school.

“She is married,” attorney J. Kevin Holmes said of his client, who taught pre-calculus and algebra at Burke High School. “Her husband is a student at the Medical University of South Carolina (in) the residency program. She has a 10-month-old baby, a girl.”

Woman Gives Birth To Quadruplets After 17 Years

A Nurse, Hadiza Ndayebo have given birth to quadruplets at the Jumai Babangida Aliyu Maternal and Neonatal Hospital in Minna after 17 years of infertility.

However, one of the quadruplets died immediately after delivery. Hadiza said that she had to get pregnant through artificial insemination after waiting for many years without getting pregnant.

“I went through artificial insemination because I have been battling with infertility for over 17 years. By December 28, it will be my 17th year in marriage.

“Although 10 years ago, I had normal pregnancy but I gave birth pre-term at 28 weeks and the people died after some days.”

Gunmen Snatch Seven Weeks Old Baby

Three armed men on Wednesday snatched a seven weeks old baby at Okungbowa Street, Uselu quarters in Egor local government area, Edo.

The men were said to have stormed the residence and asked everybody to lie down at gunpoint before snatching the baby.

Mother of the baby, Ruth Okungbowa, said the incident happened at about 8pm. Ruth said she was surprised when the gunmen left and she was told it was her baby that they took.

According to her, “I was just finishing eating and my sister was carrying the baby. Suddenly three men entered the house with gun. Two were with us inside, while the one was with my sister.

Libya Returnees Test Positive For HIV/AIDS

Some Nigerians deported from Libya have tested positive for HIV/AIDS. Screening was carried out by Edo State Agency for the Control of AIDS (SACA).

Alarmed by the discovery, the state said it has begun the process of recalling Libya returnees to make them undergo HIV/AIDS screening.

The Executive Officer of SACA, Mrs. Flora Oyakhilome, who addressed reporters while screening some returnees, said the government valued returnees’ health.

She said anyone with the virus would be treated. Oyakhilome, who refused to disclose the number of those that tested positive for the virus, said screening was on.
