President Muhammadu Buhari says the victory of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in recent by-elections gives an indication the party will win the 2019 general elections.
According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, the president said this on Friday in his country home in Daura, Katsina State.
Candidates of the APC were last month returned in two senatorial by-elections in Katsina and Bauchi states as well as in another for the House of Representatives in Kogi State.
Receiving the representatives of the 34 chairmen of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Katsina State, President Buhari said: “coming against the backdrop of the victory in Ekiti governorship election, the string of victory by our party, the APC, is a clear indication of the way things will go in 2019.
‘‘For those who are discerning; those who have ears and eyes they will see, hear and understand. Those who don’t understand are entitled to their mistaken assumptions,” the statement quoted Mr Buhari as saying.
The president stressed that the victories of the APC in the recent polls were “the sign of things to come.”
