The suspect, who was said to be a co-tenant of the parents of the victim in the Oriokuta area, Ota, according to a police report, was arrested on Wednesday October 17, 2018.
The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the victim’s mother reported the incident at the Onipanu Police Station.
She reportedly told the police that she discovered bloodstains in the pants of her daughter, adding that on further examination, she saw blood in her private parts.
Oyeyemi said the girl told her mother that the suspect lured her into his room and defiled her.
He added that the Onipanu Divisional Police Officer, Sangobiyi Johnson, detailed detectives to the scene where the suspect was arrested.
Oyeyemi noted that the suspect blamed his action on the devil.
“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, has directed that the case be transferred to the Anti-Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for further investigation and prosecution,” he added.
