Judicial Staff Union Of Nigeria Begins Indefinite Strike In Nasarawa

The Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Nasarawa State chapter, has commenced an indefinite strike following the failure of state’s Chief Judge to meet their demands on welfare issues.

The Chairman of the union, Mr. Jimoh Musa, disclosed this during a chat with journalists in Lafia on Saturday.

Musa said the decision to embark on the strike was reached at a congress held on Friday because of the refusal of the state’s Chief Judge, Justice Suleiman Dikko, to address their demands.

“We reached a consensus at the congress that if the management of the High Court headed by the chief judge of the state did not meet our demands before 12:00 a.m. Saturday, we will resume indefinite strike.

22 Killed In Borno Suicide Attacks

At least 22 persons were killed and 28 others injured in several explosions at a market in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The incident occurred at about 9:00 p.m. on Friday when three suicide bombers detonated explosives at the “Kasuwar Kifi” in the outskirts of Konduga town.

An eyewitness, Idrissa Bana, said the three suicide bombers simultaneously detonated the Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) strapped on their bodies in the crowded market.

Pope Francis Reactivates Vatican Panel Against Child Sex Abuse

Pope Francis has reactivated a panel of experts on child sexual abuse in the Catholic Church tasked with looking into prevention and care for the victims, the Vatican said on Saturday.

Francis had faced criticism for failing to renew the three-year mandate of the Pontifical Commission for the Protection of Minors when it lapsed in December.

The statement said that the commission would resume work under the confirmed leadership of Boston Archbishop Cardinal Sean O’Malley, and with 16 members, including nine who are newly appointed.

“The pope has given much prayerful consideration in nominating these members who will add to the Commission’s global perspective in the protection of minors and vulnerable adults.

Three Children Suffocate Inside Parked Car In Kano

The Kano State Police Command confirmed on Saturday that three girls died of suffocation inside a parked car in Sabon Gari area of Kano metropolis.

“The car has been parked there for more than one year; the girls were playing around it and later locked themselves inside.

“Apparently, they could not open the door and there was no one around to assist them. Three of them died of suffocation while one survived,” Magaji Majiya, spokesman of the command, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the incident happened “around 3 p.m. on Friday”.

Popular Playwright, Professor Akinwunmi Isola, Dead

A popular Nigerian playwright, actor, and scholar, Professor Akinwunmi Isola, is dead.

He died this morning, in his Ibadan, Oyo State home at the age of 79.

Prof Isola known for promoting the Yoruba language, had many of his books written in Yoruba, though studied French for his first degree. He was born in 1939.

I Can Commit Suicide For Nigeria- Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said that he wouldn’t mind to commit suicide if Nigeria loses hope even as he offered reasons why he could not chose to remain silent when he sees things going wrong in the country. He says because he is an incurable optimist in the Nigerian project, he would continue to talk and point out things going wrong because he still believes that Nigeria has great hope.

 Answering questions from students of the Ijaw National Academy(INA) Kaiama at the school auditorium as part of activities lined up for his two day working visit to Bayelsa, Obasanjo said in spite of the economic and political challenges confronting the country, there is great hope for Nigeria.

While admitting that there are things that could have been done differently, he insisted that Nigerians should not give up hope as that would spell doom for the country.

Court Orders Facebook To Stop Tracking Web Users

A Belgian court has ordered Facebook to stop tracking internet users in Belgium who have no accounts with the social network, or face fines of 250,000 euros a day.

The California-based firm vowed to appeal the ruling amid increased efforts in Europe to boost privacy protections in a digital economy dominated by US giants.

Facebook must "stop following and recording internet use by people surfing in Belgium, until it complies with Belgian privacy laws", the Brussels court said.

It based its verdict on a probe by Belgium's privacy watchdog into Facebook's use of pixels and cookies, tracking devices that follow a user's internet activity.

Ethiopia Declares State Of Emergency

Ethiopia has declared a state of emergency a day after Hailemariam Desalegn, the country's prime minister, abruptly resigned.

The measure was announced on Friday by the Council of Ministers, the Ethiopian government's cabinet, according to state broadcaster EBC.

Local media said the measure is effective as of Friday, but it was not immediately clear how long it would last.

Quoting an unnamed source "close to the government", the Addis Standard newspaper reported that the Council was debating whether to make the measure span three or six months.

University Professor Arrested Over Grace Mugabe's 'Fake' PhD

Zimbabwean anti-corruption investigators said Friday they had arrested a university professor over the suspected fraudulent awarding of a doctorate to former first lady Grace Mugabe.

Levi Nyagura, the vice chancellor of the University of Zimbabwe, was arrested by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission following an investigation into the PhD.

It emerged that Grace was awarded the degree by the university in 2014 after just months of study.

Doctorates typically require several years of full-time research and writing.

Ogun Customs Intercepts N168m Smuggled Goods

Smuggled goods worth over N168 million including a brand new Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle 2018 model worth N51 million, thousands of bags of rice among others have been intercepted by the Ogun State Customs Command.

Speaking with news men at the Idiroko Area Customs Command in Ipokia Local Government Area, the Controller of Customs in Ogun State, Mr Sani Madugu said the his men and officers would sustain the current tempo of the anti-smuggling campaign of the command.

” It is pertinent to inform you that within the last two weeks, we have sustained the tempo promised in our anti-smuggling drive. During the period under review, the tireless efforts by the officers and men of the Command yielded a total of 13 second hand (Tokunbo) vehicles;12 means of conveyance, 21 motorcycles, 1,168 bags of rice(50 kg each), 221 kegs of vegetable oil(25 liters), five sacks of second hand shoes and two sacks of second hand bags with a total Duty Paid Value (DPV) of N153,858,579,153 at Idiroko axis  of Ogun Customs Command.

Court Remands Monarch, Others For Allegedly Maligning Ooni

An Osun Magistrates’ Court sitting in Ile-Ife on Friday remanded a traditional ruler, Oba Adeoye Adefarakan, 63, and one Abidemi Olukanmi, 18, for allegedly spreading rumour against the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi.

The Prosecutor, Inspector Christian Olajide, told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in November, 2017 at Ile-Ife.

Olajide said the accused conspired between themselves to commit felony, to wit, “publication of false news that caused fear and alarm and deformation of character.”

He said the accused also chanted and sang songs causing hatred, ridicule, spreading rumour and negative report against the Ife monarch.

I Won’t Pull Down Zuma’s Statue, Okorocha Insists

Following the forced resignation of Jacob Zuma as the President of South Africa, owing to corruption allegations, the Imo State government says the statue it erected in honour of the embattled ex-President will not be pulled down.

Okorocha had in October hosted Zuma in Owerri, where his statue was unveiled; a chieftaincy title was conferred on him and a major road was named after him.

But, reacting to calls by some persons for the statue to be removed after his resignation, a statement on Friday by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Sam Onwuemeudo, said Zuma, who he said did not receive any formal education, rose to play a major role in the freedom of the people of South Africa.

Benue State University Shut Down After Protest

The management of Benue State University, BSU, Makurdi has shut down the institution. The order came following the protest that broke out on Friday by students, who were not allowed access to the school premises over unpaid school fees.

Most of the victims, were final year students and could automatically have carry overs if they miss the exams and so protested their refusal to write exams, which led to the school management canceling all examinations and shutting down the school in order to prevent breakdown of laws.

Libya: Returnee Dies Two Days After Arrival

A female returnee recently evacuated from Libya, Miss Towabola Adebayo, died after two days of medical treatment at University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital.

Mr. Sani Datti, the Head of Media and Public Relations, National Emergency Management Agency in a statement on Friday in Abuja said the returnee was 32 years old and hailed from Ogun State.

He stated that “she was among the 5th Batch of returnees evacuated from Libya on board Medview Air that arrived Port Harcourt on Monday night.

“She arrived sick and was immediately taken in a waiting NEMA Ambulance to University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital where she was admitted.

Ghastly Accident In Adamawa Leaves All Passengers Dead Including White Man [Photos]

A ghastly accident has occurred yesterday along Gombi Hong road in Adamawa state, which reportedly left all passengers dead.

Messy! Police Arrest Rafiu Olohunwa... Assassin Who Murdered NURTW Big Boy Hamburger

The police have gotten to the root of one of the most notorious criminal cases in the NURTW caucus and shockingly, former NURTW chairman, Rafiu Olohunwa Akanni was mentioned and has now been arrested. The police were able to get to the root of the matter when Ganiyu Aliyu, a personal assistant to Kunle Poly who heads the Idumota branch, Lagos was murdered on the 23rd of January, 2018.

According to the assassin, one Adeola Williams, Ganiyu was murdered when his boss who was his target escaped. Adeola told police that former NURTW chairman, Olohunwa had contacted him to kill Kunle Poly and they had agreed on N1.5m, but paid him N500k upfront. He however missed the target but went back to Olohunwa for his balance, which he (olohunwa) refused to pay. He then seized one of Olohunwa's SUVs.

Speaking to police about those he has killed in the past, Adeola said he murdered popular NURTW big boy, Hamburger which death shook Lagos State.

“I assassinated the popular Hamburger, an NURTW chairman in Oshodi. I also killed one Baba Jide Dosumu, aka Mados in Ebute Meta, Lagos. One Salawe in Ajah, Ganiyu Asaro and four others in Badore area of Lagos after I sprayed bullets into their car, killing all the five occupants.” he said.

Court Remands Father Who 'Raped' Own Daughter

An Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday, remanded a 45- year -old father, Moses Udoh, to Kirikiri Prison over alleged rape of his own daughter.

Chief Magistrate T. O Shomade refused to listen to the accused man’s plea and ordered him to be remanded in prison.

The accused, an unemployed man resides at 45, Osundiya St., Meiran, a suburb of Lagos.

Police prosecutor Rapheal Donny told the court that the offence was committed repeatedly in 2013 at Udoh’s residence.

Teacher Arraigned For Sleeping With Two Male Students From Behind

A School Teacher, Ali Muhammad of Mariri quarters in Kano metropolis has been arraigned before a Senior Magistrate court 49 sitting in Gyadi-Gyadi for alleged defiling his two students, Sulaiman Umar and Bashir Yahaya respectively.

The teacher was charged with unnatural offense contrary to Section 284 of the penal code law.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), parents of the victims reported the case to Kano state Hisbah Board sometime in 2017 that the accused person had lured the two students into his room at Marini and forcefully slept with them one after the other.

Grieving Mom Uses Her Dead Son's Sperm To Get Herself Twins [Photos]

A grieving mum who wanted to be artificially inseminated with her dead son's sperm now has twins after being told by doctors she needed a surrogate to complete her dream of 'reincarnating' her child.

Rajashree Patil, 49, was informed by doctors that she was unfit for IVF treatment using a sample taken from her son Prathamesh, who died of a deadly tumour.

She had wanted to conceive the children herself by being the surrogate mother but doctors said she was medically unfit as she had already begun her menopause.

Instead, his semen was used to fertilise an egg which was given by an anonymous donor, who was not related to the family, before being implanted into a close relative.

The surrogate has now given birth to twins, and the mother is raising them as her own in Pune, Western India. Cool?

I’ll Take Nigeria To The Next Level, Says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday promised to take Nigeria to the next level despite the nation’s challenges.

Buhari made the promise in his remark at the induction of the Nigerian Air Force’s Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, Tsaigumi, in Kaduna.

A copy of his speech was made available to journalists by the Presidency’s media office.

The President said his administration was determined to overcome all the challenges militating against the country’s security and development.

Military Places N3m Bounty On Abubakar Shekau

The Nigerian Army has offered a three million Naira (N3,000,000) cash reward to anyone that can give credible information that will lead to the arrest of Abubakar Shekau, the fugitive factional Boko Haram terrorists’ group leader.

This was contained in a statement signed by the director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Brigadier General Sani Usman. Usman said anybody with such credible information can either contact the Military Command and Control Centre, Operation LAFIYA DOLE, any military location, security agencies  or call the Nigerian Army Information and Call Centre 193.

“The Nigerian Army will give out Three Million Naira (N3,000,000) cash reward for any credible information that leads to the arrest of Abubakar Shekau,” army spokes, Sani Usman said.

Woman Joins Ekiti Gov Race & She's In APC

A medical doctor, Mojisola Kolade, has joined the race for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress in Ekiti State.

She declared her intention on Thursday at the state secretariat of party in Ajilosun, Ado Ekiti.

She promised that her government would deal with rapists and those subjecting minors to all forms of abuses to sanitise the state.

Speaking at the event, the APC Deputy Chairman, Mrs. Kemi Olaleye, urged the women to support the female contestant during the primary.

Lassa Fever Kills 3, Including Two Pregnant Women

The Benue State Government has confirmed that two pregnant women and a man died in Makurdi, Benue State of Lassa fever.

Dr Cecilia Ojabo, the Commissioner for Health and Human Services,  disclosed this. Cecilia said one of the pregnant women was confirmed positive when her blood sample was sent to a specialist hospital in Irua in Edo State.

She said the patient commenced treatment for Lassa fever at the designated centre located at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi but died in the process.

“There was another instance of a young man, an indigene of Benue State who had Lassa fever and died in Lagos State. We were duly informed about his death and the corpse was thereafter transmitted back to Benue State for burial.”

Alfa Kills Co-Tenant Over N60 House Bill

The Ogun State Police Command has launched a manhunt for an Islamic cleric, identified only as Raheem, for allegedly killing a co-tenant, Monday Olaleye, aka Messiah.

The duo, who lived in a house on Adebayo Close, in the Ibafo, Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state, reportedly had a disagreement which degenerated to fisticuffs.

The fight, which occured on Sunday, February 11, started after 49-year-old Olaleye demanded the N60 contribution of Raheem for the replacement of a burnt electric fuse.

Olaleye was appointed by other tenants to collect funds for the purchase of the new fuse, valued at N600.

Chinese Man Arrested Over N494m Elephant Tusks

The Nigeria Customs Service, Federal Operations Unit,  Zone A, has intercepted sacks of elephant tusks and pangolin shells with a combined duty paid value  of N493.5m.

The unit also arrested a Chinese suspect, Mr. Ko Sin Ying, in connection with the items.

Displaying the items at the FOU headquarters in Ikeja on Thursday, the Controller, NCS, FOU, Mohammed  Garba, said the seizures comprised 55 sacks of pangolin shells weighing 2,001 kilogrammes and valued at N408.32m and 218 pieces of elephant tusks weighing 343kg and valued at N85.2m.

According to Garba, the items were removed from an apartment on Ogundana Street, off Allen Avenue, Ikeja, by the Warehouse Operations Team led by Assistant Comptroller Mutalib Sule.

Corruption Will Return If Buhari Is Voted Out In 2019– Amaechi

The Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi, has said that corruption will return to the country “automatically” if Nigerians vote out President Muhammadu Buhari in 2019.

Mr. Amaechi said this to journalists on Thursday at his office.

“Let me tell you, if we don’t win, corruption will come back automatically,” he said. “Nobody will beg it.”

He said members of his former party, which is now the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party, have been “hungry” for four years because they are out of power.

I Will Die, If I Give My Wife Money, Man Tells Court

A 55-year-old fashion designer, Stephen Enebeli, told an Igando Customary Court in Lagos on Thursday that he would die if he gave money to his wife for the upkeep of the family.

Enebeli said this when he responded to a divorce petition by his wife, Eunice, alleging lack of care for his children.

“I stopped giving her money for feeding and school fees of our children when she started living with another man.

“In my tradition, if a woman marries another husband legally or illegally and the former husband still gives her money for the welfare of the children, he will die and I am not ready to die now,” he said.

Muslims Urge Macron Not To Interfere In Islam

A leading representative of French Muslims has urged Emmanuel Macron not to interfere in the organisation of the country's second-largest religion, days after the president said he would try to redefine relations between Islam and the state.

The statement came from the leader of an organisation set up 15 years ago in a bid to defuse concern about conservative religious leaders and foster a form of Islam that would fit better with France's hard line secularism that insists on separation of church and state affairs.

"Everyone must stick to their role," Ahmet Ogras, president of the French Council of the Muslim Faith (CFCM), told Reuters in an interview.

The centre-right government of Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull has been thrown into turmoil after the revelations that his deputy has been entangled in an extra-marital affair, straining the alliance between his Liberal Party and the National Party of Barnaby Joyce.

Joyce will take a break next week rather than step in for the country's leader while the PM is away, as a poll shows his popularity plummeting since admitting to a sex affair with a former staffer.

Joyce, a Catholic who campaigned on "family values" and been married for 24 years, is expecting a child with his former press secretary.

Joyce has so far resisted calls to quit either his seat or his cabinet spot, including a motion that passed the Senate calling for his resignation, since leaving parliament would put the government's narrow one-seat majority at risk.

Ethiopia Prime Minister, Desalegn Resigns

Hailemariam Desalegn says he has submitted his resignation as both Ethiopia's prime minister and chairman of the ruling coalition.

Hailemariam's announcement comes amid a political crisis and lingering unrest in the Horn of Africa country, which has been releasing thousands of political prisoners to ease tensions.

"Unrest and a political crisis have led to the loss of lives and displacement of many," Hailemariam said in a televised address on Thursday.

"I see my resignation as vital in the bid to carry out reforms that would lead to sustainable peace and democracy," he said.

Cyril Ramaphosa Voted In As South Africa’s President

Cyril Ramaphosa was voted in by parliament as South African president today. This is coming hours after the late-night resignation of Jacob Zuma.

Mr Ramaphosa, the ANC leader, bowed as his party’s MPs sang “rise up, Ramaphosa” as the result was announced.

“South Africa has just emerged from a historic and challenging time,” said Baleka Mbete, the parliamentary speaker. “Our democracy has matured and remains resilient.”

Mr Ramaphosa is 65.

Erstwhile Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, Dr Tope Aluko, has said he had apologised to Governor Ayodele Fayose for all that he did in the past including blasting him on Tv.

The chairman of Ogbomosho North Local Government, Lamiju Akala stormed some schools in Oyo State to personaly take part in educating students on importance of dewrming and actually carried out the exercise on some.
