NDLEA arrests ‘notorious’ drug dealer in Imo

The Imo State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has confirmed the arrest of one Uzochi Agbakwuru, an alleged notorious drug dealer in the state.

A statement issued in Owerri on Wednesday by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Uche Sampson, said Agbakwuru was arrested on October 18 and was in the agency’s custody.

 Sampson described as “spurious,” a petition by one Frank Agbakwuruibe, urging Governor Emeka Ihedioha to order the “unconditional” release of Agbakwuru by the agency. He described the suspect, who hails from Umuemeri Ogwu, Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area of Imo, as “a notorious drug peddler.” He said the

Rapper Kodak Black sentenced to 46 months in prison after pleading guilty to weapons charges

US rapper Kodak Black has been sentenced to 46 months in prison after pleading guilty to weapons charges.

The 22-year-old, who had a US number one album last December, admitted falsifying information on background forms to buy four guns.

He was arrested before his set at Miami's Rolling Loud festival in May. One of the guns he bought was used in an attempted shooting in March. Prosecutors said "a rival rap artist was the intended target".

However, he has not been charged in relation to that shooting.

10 hospital staff dismissed for stealing blood

The Management of Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia, Nasarawa State, says it has dismissed 10 of its staff over financial misconduct, sabotage and selling blood meant for patients.

Dr Hassan Ikrama, the Chief Medical Director (CMD) of the hospital disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lafia.

“Some of them were engaging in stealing of blood from blood bank and selling same to private hospitals and diverting money meant for the hospital.

“Some are using the facilities of the hospital to carry out investigation in the laboratory and put the money for the charges in their private pockets,” he added.

He noted that all the dismissed staff were investigated and found culpable by a committee that looked into the matter.


Busola Dakolo takes Fatoyinbo to Appeal Court

Celebrity Photographer, Busola Dakolo says she will appeal the judgment which nullified her suit against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly, COZA.

Justice Oathman A. Musa of the High Court, Abuja, had earlier in the day nullified Dakolo’s suit against Fatoyinbo and awarded N1 million against her, saying that the matter amounted to injustice and an abuse of judicial process, adding that the case was empty and purely sentimental.

Dakolo had accused Fatoyinbo of raping her 20 years ago when she was 16 years old in Ilorin, Kwara State.

However, Dakolo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, said they would appeal the judgment.

'Serial rapist' made mum 'listen to screams' of her children 'as he r.a.p.e.d them both'

A serial rapist bound a mother with electrical flex and forced her to listen to the muffled screams of her children as he raped them both, the Old Bailey heard.

Joseph McCann woke the 17-year-old daughter and 11-year-old boy and he r.a.p.e.d them both in the next room as the other watched, jurors heard today.

Hours later he held a 71-year-old and a 13-year-old girl prisoner in the pensioner's car while he sexually assaulted them, it is alleged.

McCann, 34, met the mum in a bar in Greater Manchester in the early hours of Sunday 5 May. He allegedly took advantage of her 'drunken state' to take her home in a taxi.

Police detain 98 persons for running online gambling

Police in east China’s Zhejiang Province have apprehended 98 suspects for running online gambling involving a total of 290 million yuan ($41.3m).

In 2018, police in the city of Zhoushan cracked down on several cases in which suspects organised gambling in group chats on social media platforms through a mahjong app.

After investigation, police found that Zhoushan had 220,000 registered users of the app by early 2018, with daily active users exceeding 20,000.

According to the police, the app was developed by a tech company in Shanghai, which had developed more than 30 kinds of gambling apps involving over 20 provinces and cities, including Shanghai, Shanxi and Hebei.

APC has no Governorship candidate in Bayelsa election, court rules

A Federal High Court in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State on Thursday declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) didn’t follow constitutional guidelines in its primaries hence the party has no candidate for the November 16th election in the state.

The case was presided over Justice Jane Inyang.

One of the APC governorship aspirants, Senator Heineken Lopkobiri had earlier approached the court asking it to declare him, and not David Lyon, the authentic candidate of the APC.

Court throws out Busola Dakolo's case against faoyinbo, awards N1m to Fatoyinbo

A High Court in Bwari, Abuja on Thursday threw out the case filed by Busola Dakolo against Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA).

This came after Fatoyinbo filed an objection and an affidavit at the Court reiterating that Busola’s statements were false and concocted to embarrass, scandalise and ridicule Fatoyinbo.

He argued that from the inception, she sought the attention of the media and press, and brought the civil action even while the Police’s investigation was ongoing.

Nigerian man, Kenyan woman arrested and charged for preaching in Kenya without permit

Authorities in Kenya have charged a Nigerian pastor and a Kenyan woman with engaging in evangelism without a permit.

According to Kenya newspaper, Daily Nation, Mr Joseph Ifeanyichukwu Ezeking, 39, and Alice Kawira, 35, on diverse dates between January and September this year preached without work permit in Embu and Meru counties.

Ms Kawira was charged with harbouring the foreigner at her place while knowing that he was illegally engaging in the evangelism.

She's won 15 Grammys in her career to date.

And now Alica Keys will make Grammy history by becoming the first female recording artist to host the annual music awards show more than once.

The Recording Academy announced on Wednesday that the 38-year-old will return as host of the 62nd Grammy Awards in 2020.

The Duke of Cambridge, 37,  is a long-standing patron of the charity, which helps homeless young people get back into education, training and employment.

He was joined by his cousin Princess Beatrice, who was there to show her support for the charity at the Roundhouse in Camden, wearing a black dress with colourful patterns, underneath a black winter coat.

Later singer Rita Ora, who was in a low cut silver beaded dress, looked happy to see the Prince as she spoke to him and kissed him on the cheek.

Yaba, Jibowu roads to be shut down for two days for construction of rail tracks

The Lagos State Government says it will be closing down Yaba and Jibowu/Ogunmorin axis on the 16th and 23rd of November respectively from 8:00pm to 6:00am for the Level Cross construction of the rail tracks.

It said this was in line with the Nigerian Railway Modernization Project (Lagos-Ibadan section) with extension to Lagos Port at Apapa.

A statement from the Ministry of Transportation said on the 16th of November, the Jibowu axis will be closed down, while the Yaba axis of the rail will be shutdown on the 23rd of November.

PDP describes Hate Speech Bill as unconstitutional, undemocratic and barbarous

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described the Hate Speech Prohibition Bill in the National Assembly, as “unconstitutional, undemocratic and a barbarous”.

The PDP said the bill seeking stringent punishment including death by hanging as penalty were deliberately hazy and nebulous with the malicious intention to victimize innocent Nigerians.

The party gave the rejection in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mr Kola Ologbondiyan on Wednesday in Abuja.

Ologbondiyan said that the bill was targeted at official extermination of voice of dissent and perceived opposition.

3 men who kidnapped Oniba of Iba sentenced to death

Three kidnappers who kidnapped a Lagos monarch, the Oniba of Iba, Oba Yushau Goriola Oseni some years ago have been sentenced to death by the Special Offences Court in Ikeja, Lagos.

The conviction was secured by the Lagos State Government through the Ministry of Justice.

In a landmark ruling presided over by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Special Offences Court in Ikeja on Wednesday, and handed down in an hour long proceedings, the trial judge found all the accused guilty of all the charges brought against them.

The defendants were charged for the offences of conspiracy, murder, attempted murder, armed robbery and kidnapping.

More Nigerian lecturers sacked over #sexforgrades

A lecturer has been dismissed, while 10 other lecturers have been suspended at Ignatius Ajuru University of Education,Port Harcourt over the allegation of demanding cash or sex for grades from desperate students.

The Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. Ozo-Mekuri Ndimele, disclosed this when the Rivers State House of Assembly committee on Education led by Christian Ahiakwo visited the institution as part oversight function on Wednesday.

Ndimele did not give details of the lecturers sanctioned by the university.

The Police have discovered an illegal hospital operated by a Ghanaian in Mafoluku area of Lagos State.

The man who claimed he came into Nigeria as a nursing tutor in 1982, established the hospital 14 years after.

Upon interrogation, the consultant and operator Hayfore Adu – Peprah, who says he is suffering from hypertension, diabetes and kidney disease could not provide the certificate he claimed to have obtained before operating the private home.

13 die, 10 critically injured as truck collides with two buses on Lagos-Ibadan expressway

No fewer than 13 persons died, while 10 others were injured in a multiple crash around Saapade, near Ogere on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, on Wednesday.

Mr Clement Oladele, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ogun, confirmed the incident in Abeokuta.

Oladele said that the crash occurred around 5 pm. at Saapade, where diversion was created by RCC, the construction company currently working on the rehabilitation of the corridor.

He noted that the accident was caused by a speeding truck heading towards Lagos, but which suddenly suffered a burst tyre.

El-Rufai will never be president of Nigeria, Bishop of Zaria blows hot

The Bishop of Zaria, Rt Rev Abiodun Ogunyemi has denounced the Archbishop of Kaduna and the general secretary of the Anglican Consultative Council for paying a “humiliating visit” to Governor Nasir El-Rufai to apologise for criticising him over a plan to demolish the St George’s Cathedral in the university town.

Ogunyemi said the apology was all an attempt to make the governor look good in preparation for a possible presidential ambition in 2023.

But to Ogunyemi, the apology boiled to nought, according to a statement he published on the church’s website, zariadiocese.org.ng.
