It’s propaganda to say churches have money - Pastor Sam Adeyemi

The Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Sam Adeyemi, on Monday said that most churches in the country were financially stranded due to lack of financial management skills by their leaders.

Speaking at a news conference organised by the Christian Financial Accountability Association in Lagos, Adeyemi said that many churches spent money without proper monitoring and records.

“When people say churches have money, it is propaganda. At least 75 per cent of churches have less than 100 members.

“It is very little money they manage and out of that little money, they take care of widows and people who do not have.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, (EFCC), Ibadan zonal office, has arrested one Kehinde Olumide Agbabiaka, a sales agent of a new generation bank for allegedly stealing N137,000,000 million.

His arrest was sequel to a petition jointly penned by the bank’s Regional Security Officer and the Cluster Control and Compliance Manager, in which it was alleged that the suspect suppressed, diverted and stole a total sum of N137,000,000 million from personal and corporate accounts of a customer in ibadan, Oyo State.

Filed on August 20, 2019, the petition alleged that Agbabiaka committed the offence between January 2017 and July 2019.

Dammy Krane arraigned in court over fight with MerryBet company... gets N50,000 bail

Dammy Krane whose real name is Johnson Oyindamola, was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrates’ Court in Lagos by the police today September 16th on a three-count charge of threat to life, defamation and conduct likely to cause a breach of the peace.

Dammy was accused to have threatened to attack staff of betting company, MerryBet, verbally and online after a business deal between them went sour.

Police Prosecutor, Insp. J. I. Enang, told the court that the 27-year-old singer attended a betting competition organised by the betting company and went on rampage after he lost during the competition on July 29th at Cool FM in Lagos. The police prosecutor added that Dammy Krane went on to post a video on the internet accusing the sport betting company of owing him.

Police arraign fake herbalist for allegedly duping housewife of N13m in Abuja

The police on Monday arraigned a fake herbalist, Muhammed Bako in an Upper Area Court in Mpape, Abuja for allegedly cheating a housewife of N13 million.

Bako, whose address was not given, is charged with criminal conspiracy, extortion and criminal intimidation.

The Prosecution Counsel, Mr A.O Olaofe, told the court that the case was reported to the National Intelligence Agency, Abuja by the complainant, Mrs Magret Igbinobaro.

Olaofe told the court that on April 25, the defendant, who is also a driver, picked up the complainant in his car from Minna, Niger state to Abuja.

The management of Cheshire Home for the disabled and less privileged, Ibadan, Oyo State has bemoaned incessant attacks by suspected hoodlums.

An Assistant Coordinator, Cheshire Home, Ibadan, Mr Kayode Lawal who painted the negative occurrences when officials of the Nigerian Shippers Council, South-West zone, visited to make donations to the home, said four attacks were recorded in few months.

He said, “In the space of the past five months, thieves have broken into the home and assaulted residents on four occasions.”

NAPTIP warns youths against social media marriages

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has warned youths against engaging in social media and Internet marriages.

Mrs. Julie Orkah-Donli, the Director-General of the Agency, gave the warning on Monday, during a sensitisation visit to the Iruekpen Mixed Secondary School in Iruekpen, Esan West Local Government Area of Edo State.

Orkah-Donli said that the warning became imperative, as it had been discovered that human traffickers also use such marriage arrangements to introduce ladies into prostitution.

Container falls and kills two in Ikorodu this morning

A fallen container from a truck has crushed two people to death and injured several others at Ikorodu area of Lagos, this morning.

Director-General, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the death of two people in the incident. He said the tragedy occurred on Monday at Agric. Bus Stop, Ikorodu.

According to Oke-Osanyintolu, “Two people were dead. Three sustained major injuries and several others sustained minor injuries when a container fell on a Toyota Camry and three motorcycles.”

Governor Umahi appoints 180 additional aides

Gov. David Umahi of Ebonyi has approved the appointment of 180 additional aides to serve as Executive Assistants (EA) as and Senior Technical Assistant (STA).

Mr. Clement Nweke, Principal Secretary to the governor in a statement in Abakaliki, directed the appointees, which include two former members of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly, EBSHA, and ex-deputy speaker, Mrs. Dorothy Obasi, to report on Monday.

Some of the appointed executive assistants include Mr. Chidiebere Egwu, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) southeast Zonal Youth Leader and Mr. Igberi Nweme, former Charmian of Ikwo Local Government Area among others.

BudgIT founder, Oluseun Onigbinde, whose appointment as technical adviser to the Minister of Budget, has generated some furore, has quit, barely days after he took the job.

In a statement, titled, AN UPDATE ON MY RECENT APPOINTMENT, Onigbinde, a critic of the Buhari administration, said he has resigned the appointment.

Again, Dangote's tomato plant is shut

Dangote Tomato plant in Kano has been shut again, six months after it resumed operations from an almost three-year shut down.

Reports said the 1,200-ton-a-day tomato-processing factory closed down because it was unable to get its required feed stock from farmers, who switched to other crops at the beginning of the rainy season in May.

The plant was idle for more than two years until March this year over a supply disruption partly caused by a price dispute with farmers. Even after the disagreement was resolved, the factory was unable to ramp up production beyond 20% of its capacity due to inadequate supply of tomatoes, as most of the farmers lacked the needed credit to expand production.

Cameroonian refugee allegedly sells baby for N70k

A Cameroonian refugee simply identified as Claudia, 20, has allegedly sold her nine-month-old baby for N70,000.

Claudia lives at the Adagom refugee camp in Cross River State and had sold her baby on August 25 to a stranger, who had visited from Calabar.

She claimed she sold her child because of hunger.

It was reported that Claudia had sold her baby in connivance with a barber simply identified as Victor.

Gunmen Kidnap Senior Advocate Of Nigeria, Onyemenam

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Chief Chika Onyemenam has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Asaba, Delta State.

Confirming the Unfortunate Incident, The Asaba branch of the Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, issued a statement calling on Security agencies to intervene and rescue Chief Onyemenam urgently.

One of the casualties of the Benue Links fatal accident that occurred yesterday September 15th, was a young beautiful Nigerian doctor, Patience Tsavnande.

She was among the passengers in the 18-seater commercial bus that clashed with a trailer in Angwan chiyawa, along Akwanga-Lafia road yesterday.

Only one woman survived the accident. May her soul rest in peace.

Army Corporal, 6 others arrested for allegedly killing police inspector in Cross River

An Army Corporal, Awotayo Femi attached to 707 Special Force Brigade in Makurdi, Benue state and six others are said to be cooling their feet in detention now after they allegedly killed a Police Inspector, Christopher Achong in Bekwarra local government area of Cross River state on Friday.

Police sources say Mr. Achong was on patrol duty at the Anyikang axis of the Ogoja – Katsina Ala highway when at about 9:45 AM, his team stopped a commercial vehicle for search.

The bus, a Ford Galaxy was said to be conveying passengers to Calabar and following a heated argument which degenerated to a physical confrontation, Inspector Achong was said to have been fatally injured and died at the General Hospital in Bekwarra.

The passengers and driver were later arrested and alongside the bus, transferred to the State command at Diamond hill in Calabar where sources say they are been questioned.

Teary! Yahoo boy kills hunched aunt for money rituals in Ebonyi state (she's pictured)

The entire Umuka community in Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State has been in mourning mood since August 19, this year, when news broke out that a man, Eric Ifeanyi Okoro, aged 28, hacked his aunt, a hunched primary school teacher, Benisa Okoro, to death in her sleep.

Benisa’s absence would be felt more as schools reopen this week, by pupils of the community primary school in the area, where she was said to have been a kind of mother to all the children with her uncommon love and care to them.

The slain lady said to be about 52 years old had returned from a church programme tagged: ‘Night of Cry’ service, on August 18, but met her nephew, Ifeanyi absent at home. She was said to have quickly prepared dinner for the young man before going to bed for a night rest.

Sowore seeks bail in FRESH court application

In a fresh application filed before the Federal High Court in Abuja, Mr Omoyele Sowore, Convener of #RevolutionNow protest, who is being held by the Department of State Services, has asked for bail in liberal terms.

Sowore filed the fresh application on Friday after his failed bid to have the court hear his earlier one challenging the detention order issued against him by Justice Taiwo Taiwo on July 8, 2019.

The affidavit he filed in support of the application stated in part, “That the applicant (Sowore) herein has never been charged with any criminal offence whatsoever.

Ihedioha plans to jail Okorocha for incitement

A Magistrates’ Court in Owerri has summoned former governor of Imo state, Senator Rochas Okorocha, to appear before it on October 8 to explain why he should not be convicted for alleged incitement.

Imo state government, according to Daily Trust had dragged Okorocha to court over accusation that the former governor had consistently been fomenting trouble and inciting his supporters to disobey the government of the day.

In the suit, with reference no: OW/MISC.79/2019, filed at the Owerri district of the Magistrate Court, the Imo State Attorney General on behalf of the state government alleged that Okorocha had been in the habit of making seditious and inciting statements against the government even on air using his Radio station (Reach FM), which is widely listened to in Owerri and beyond.

Tanzanian PM orders suspended officials to return 1.3bn TZS in THREE DAYS

Tanzanian Prime Minister, Kassim Majaliwa, on Sunday suspended seven public officials in Morogoro region over embezzlement of 1.3 billion Tanzanian shillings ($567,000), a statement said.

The statement issued by the Prime Minister’s Office in the capital Dodoma said Majaliwa has ordered the seven public officials to refund the money in three days’ time before he concludes his official visit to Morogoro region.

The suspended public officials were from Kilombero district council and Ifakara town council, said the statement.

Daughter of Adamawa politician Aisha Ardo kidnapped

Aisha Umar Ado, daughter of a former governorship aspirant in Adamawa state, Dr. Umar Ardo, was kidnapped by gunmen in Abuja on Saturday night. But she was freed on Sunday, her father has announced.

According to a close family member, Amir Mustapha the politician paid in bitcoins to get his daughter freed. Amir made the claim on Monday on Facebook.

“So kidnappers now accept ransoms in bitcoins?? This is alarmingly worrying. Yesterday, Dr Umar Ardo’s daughter, Aisha was kidnapped in Maitama, Abuja(sic) and he had to pay $15,000 in bitcoins just for her to be released. This country is heading for the rocks. Lagos State Taskforce explains why people were picked up at African Shrine

Operatives of the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Taskforce) at the weekend raided all streets within Central Business District, including surroundings of the ‘African Shrine’, Alausa, Ikeja and arrested 28 miscreants and 15 illegal street traders.

The Chairman of the Agency, CSP Olayinka Egbeyemi said the enforcement operations became imperative following complaints from members of the public about the criminal activities of miscreants and environmental nuisance of illegal street traders around the Shrine.

Egbeyemi disclosed that 28 miscreants and 15 illegal street traders were arrested at various locations around Alausa, hinting that the raid was also initiated due to the nefarious acts within the vicinity of the African Shrine which presented a negative image to tourists and Lagosians as a whole.

Sad! 13 killed, 11 injured in Nasarawa accident

13 people have been killed in an accident near Unguwan Ciyawa in Eggon Local Government Area of Nasarawa state.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) in the state, Ismaila Kugu, confirmed to Daily Trust that “Ten adults, three children died while 11 people sustained injuries in the accident.”

He said, “We have evacuated the injured and moved the dead to Nasarawa Eggon Hospital.”

According to him, the accident involved three vehicles: A Truck with registration number: MSA 513 XA, a bus with registration number BDG 530 SU belonging to Benue State Transport Company, ‘Benue Links’ and a black car with registration number RBC 45 AT.

29-year old fake EFCC operative arrested in Lagos

The police in Lagos have arrested a 29-year-old man who allegedly paraded himself as an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

The suspect was identified as Emeka Emmanuel and was arrested on Saturday by the Ojo police division.

Bala Elkana, the Lagos police spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Sunday.

According to Mr Elkana, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, the suspect defrauded a number of people under the pretense that he would get them a job at the EFCC.

Cult clash claims 3 lives in Akwa Ibom

The Akwa Ibom Police Command has confirmed that three persons were killed in a cult clash between Axe and Vikings confraternities in Onna Local Government area of the state.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Odiko Mac-Don, disclosed this while speaking with on Sunday in Uyo.

Mac-Don, said that aside the three persons who were killed, some others sustained varying degrees of injuries in the clash.

“Yes there was cult clash in Awa, in Onna Local Government area. Although nobody has been arrested for now, three persons have, however, been confirmed dead,” he said.

The police spokesperson said that investigations were ongoing to unravel the cause of cult clash in the area.

Police arrest man for r-ping and impregnating teen girl

A statement from Police spokesman, Lagos state Command, DSP Bala Elkana, on Sunday said  a suspect has been arrested for raping and impregnating a 13 year-old girl.

“On 11/9/2019 at about 1920 hours, Bariga Police Station received a complaint that one Mr Kazeem Bello about 26 years of age conspired with one Dayo A Maker ‘m’ about 24 years of age and gang r-ped a 13 year-old girl.

“The survivor became pregnant as a result of the defilement and gave birth to a baby girl about five weeks ago. The suspect had earlier on threatened to kill the survivor if she tells anybody, the survivor summoned courage to narrate her ordeal to her family when the same suspect threatened to r-pe her younger sister.

“One of the suspects Dayo M. Maker, was arrested by detectives from the Family Support Unit, Bariga while his accomplice, Mr Kazeem Bello, is at large,” he said.

He added that investigation is ongoing and efforts are ongoing to apprehend the second suspect.
