Crying and releasing ‘real emotion ‘ over an ex can help you lose weight, it has been claimed.
Scientists have found that emotional tears contain hormones which increase cortisone level.
The hormones prolactin, leu-enkephalin, and adrenocorticotropin (also called ACTH) are produced when we are under a lot of pressure.
By crying, the hormones are released which reduces our cortisol levels – a hormone linked to stress, it is reported.
The body then gets a signal that the stress is over and therefore we don’t need to retain fat, Bright Side reports.
It’s only tears caused by real emotion that has the effect, the report says.
On average, people cry around 16.5 gallons of tears in their life, scientists believe.
A past study from the University of Minnesota , US, found that crying can also help with healing, boosting immunity and reducing levels of anger and stress.
