Over 200 people were arrested for violating the sanitation law in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.

The offenders were convicted by a mobile court and made to pay between 500 and 1000 naira as fine, while the underage and students carry out the sanitation before they are allowed to go after the exercise.

Addressing newsmen after the three hours sanitation exercise, the permanent Secretary, Kwara state ministry of environment and forestry, Malam Amosa Isiaka Al-Amin urged the residents of the state to ensure they keep their environment clean to prevent diseases.

He commended the sanitation official for ensuring total compliance for the period the exercise lasted.
