Pope Francis gets trapped in Vatican elevator

Pope Francis was late for his weekly address on Sunday after he got stuck in an elevator for 25 minutes and had to be rescued by firefighters.

He apologized to the thousands who had gathered in St. Peter’s Square for being late.

“Dear brothers and sisters, good morning. First of all, I have to apologize for being late but I had an unexpected event, I have been stuck in an elevator for 25 minutes,” he said.

He went on to explain that an electrical problem caused the elevator to stop.

“Thank goodness, the firemen arrived, and I thank them so much, and after 25 minutes of work they managed to get it started again,” the pope said, encouraging the crowd to give the firefighters a shout out. “A round of applause for the firefighters,” he said.
