Power outage forces Delta governorship tribunal from giving verdict

Delta  State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Asaba has suspended the giving judgment in the petition filed by the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Great Ogboru, due to power failure at the court premises.

The chairman of the tribunal, Justice Sulaiman Belgore who announced the temporary suspension following the power failure shortly after the judge introduced the panel, saying that judgement will commence when the power is restored.

Ogboru, who challenged the return of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of the Peoples Democratic Party as winner of the March 9, 2019 election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in petition EPT/DT/GOV/01/2019, alleged that the election was fraught with irregularities, over voting and substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act and guidelines for the said election

The judgement that was scheduled for 10:00 a.m. was yet to commence as of the time of filing this report due to the power-generating set in the court which had developed a fault.
