Facebook and Instagram will block children from seeing s.e.xual content in 2020

Facebook and its sister app Instagram are to block under-18s from viewing sexual content, The Telegraph has learned.

The online platforms will hide suggestive adverts and pictures such as art depicting sexual activity, which are otherwise allowed, to children as part of a new policy.

The social media giant confirmed to The Telegraph that it will “age-gate” certain categories of sexual content for users under the age of 18, probably beginning in early 2020.

The policy will affect adverts containing "implicit sexual activity", images of artworks that depict sexual activity and some fictional depictions of sex, all of which are allowed on Facebook and will remain visible to adult users.
