A 23-year-old man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of rapper Cadet by dangerous driving.
Jordon Birch, appeared at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court to face a charge of causing the death of 28-year-old rapper in the early hours of February 9.
Birch, of Grove Crescent, Woore, was also accused of causing serious injury to Kashif Usman by dangerous driving.
He admitted both charges during a hearing today, and his lawyer Peter Cooper told the court Birch was sorry for for what he did.
Cooper said: “He is appalled and he offers his full apology.
”Not that it changes anything, he offers a full apology to members of the bereaved family.
“He is not hoping to gain by it, he just wants to say it.”
Wearing black trousers and a black jumper, and carrying a black bag, Birch faced the family of Cadet, real name is Blaine Cameron Johnson, in court.
Cooper added that Birch fully expects to be given a lengthy spell behind bars, telling the court: “He is under no illusions. He is going to serve a long prison sentence.”
Birch has been released on unconditional bail until his sentencing hearing on January 9.
Cadet was a back seat passenger in a Toyota Prius taxi on his way to perform at Keele University’s student union when his cab was involved in a crash with a Vauxhall Combo van driven by Jordon Birch.
The south London-based rapper was pronounced dead at the scene on the A531 Main Road, Wrinehill, near Betley.
The defendant, Mr Usman and three other passengers in the taxi were rushed to hospital.
Cadet’s family confirmed news of his death in a statement: “We the family of Blaine Cameron Johnson known as Cadet (Underrated Legend) would like to share the sad news that during the early hours of 9th February 2019 he passed away as a passenger in a taxi, en route to a performance.
