Photos: Man found drunk on the street of Lagos is rescued by police officers

The Rapid Response Squad, Lagos state police command, today rescued a man found to be drunk and unconscious on the street of Lagos. He was seen along Awolowo Way, Ikeja. And immediately the officers knew something was wrong, they rushed towards him. After discovering he was drunk, they took him into their ambulance and revived him.

After he got back to his senses, he then took them to Fela's Shrine, Alausa Business District, Ikeja where he parked his car. He claimed to the officers her didn’t know how he got to where they saved him from. Shayo na wetin? Lol

President Buhari to open EFCC’s Anti-Corruption Summit on Tuesday

President Muhammadu Buhari will on Tuesday, June 11, declare open a National Democracy Day Anti-corruption Summit.

Mr Tony Orilade, EFCC’s Acting Head, Media and Publicity made this known in a statement in Abuja today.

Orilade said that the summit would hold at the Congress Hall, Transcorp Hilton, Abuja by 11 am.

The summit is being organised by EFCC in collaboration with the Presidential Inauguration Planning Committee.

21 suspected cult members arrested after two die in Ikorodu cultists clash

No fewer than 21 suspected cult members of two rival groups, Eiye and Aiye confraternities, in Ikorodu area of Lagos, have been arrested after a clash that left two persons dead and many injured.

According to NAN, sources revealed that different weapons, including guns, machetes and charms, were freely used by the groups in Isikalu palace and Solomade areas of Ikorodu during the clash, which resulted in disturbance of public order.

It was learnt that due to the clash which started on Thursday night and continued till Friday, many residents of the areas were unable to go to work or open their business centres until the Anti-Cultism police, led by their commander, CSP Uduak Udom came to the scene.

Ghanaian police search for 2 kidnapped Canadian women, Uber driver arrested

Ghanaian police have begun a search for the two Canadian women announced missing on Thursday. Except for the arrest of their Uber driver, there has been no clue yet, according to reports.

Kidnapping is a rarity in Ghana and the Kumasi abduction at a golf club, appears to be a big embarrassment for the authorities, more so as it was the second incident in the country’s largest city, after Accra, the capital.

In April, an Indian was reportedly abducted by an armed gang demanding a cash ransom. He was swiftly rescued by police.

Judge ordered to withdraw from Fayose’s N6.9bn money laundering case

A Lagos Federal High Court Judge, Mojisola Olatoregun presiding over the N6.9 billion money laundering case involving former governor Ayodele Fayose, has surrendered the case on the order of the Chief Judge of the Federal court, Justice Justice Adamu Abdu Kafarati.

Consequently, the case file has been transferred to another judge, Justice Chukwujekwu Joseph Aneke of the same Lagos Division of the court who will now start the case denovo (start afresh) after EFCC has called 13 out of 15 prosecution witnesses it intended to call.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court transferred the case from the trial judge, citing a petition dated March 21, 2019 written by the EFCC which expressed lack of confidence in Justice Olatoregun and sought for transfer of the case to another judge.

FRSC officials strangle colleague who threatened to expose them to death

Tragedy has struck the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) as two of its officials have allegedly strangled one of their colleagues to death in Anambra State.

The incident, which happened at about 7pm on Thursday, took place at the Onitsha Unit of the Anambra State Command of the Commission.

The deceased, Mr Emeka Ojei, a Senior Road Marshal Assistant, was said to have incurred the wrath of his colleagues, who took his life for insisting that he would expose certain corrupt practices one of them indulged in.

Another one in Kano! Police ban rallies, processions in the state

The Kano State Police Command has banned any form of rally, demonstration, procession or assembly in the state until further notice.

The order was contained in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Deputy Superintendent of Police Abdullahi Haruna, and made available to newsmen in Kano on Saturday.

Similarly, he said, the command had withdrawn permission given to members of the public, civil society organisations, political parties, NGOs and other groups.

Heavily fortified security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the State Security Service have surrounded the premises of African Independent Television (AIT) after the station came back on air late Friday.

Group Managing Director of DAAR Communication Mr. Tony Akiotu speaking to newsmen said shortly after AIT commenced operation, security forces gathered around the station’s premises

He explained that by 12.30 a.m. Saturday morning, the premises of DAAR Communications Plc was surrounded by security operatives of the Nigeria Police Force and the State Security Service.

Senate presidency: Goje’s withdrawal divides PDP caucus

Senator Danjuma Goje’s decision to withdraw from the Senate presidency race to back his All Progressives Congress colleague, Senator Ahmed Lawan, has allegedly caused division among the Peoples Democratic Party senators-elect.

Goje and Lawan were in the race alongside their APC colleague, Ali Ndume, but  Goje decided to endorse Lawan after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.

Investigations by Punch correspondents revealed that the majority of the PDP lawmakers-elect in the Red Chamber had been pushing for Goje’s adoption by the PDP  for the position before the former Gombe State governor announced his withdrawal.

Police arrest leader of cult group, 20 others in ikorodu

The Lagos State Police have arrested the leader of a notorious cult group in the Ikorodu area of the state along with 20 others.

The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bala Elkana, confirmed this in a statement issued on Friday.

According to him, the arrest was made after the Force received a distress call that some cultists from two rival groups engaged themselves in a supremacy battle along Isikalu Palace and Solomade area of Ikorodu.

Subsequently, the Command’s Anti Cultism Unit and patrol teams were promptly deployed to the scene where the leader of the gang, Yusuf Omidele, popularly known as General, who according to them had been on the wanted list, was arrested.

Private pictures of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding have leaked online after their official photographer's computer was hacked, it has been reported.

Snaps taken by aristocrat Alexi Lubomirski have started to appear on sites including Instagram and Twitter, following their wedding at Windsor Castle in May last year.

The incident has caused quite a stir at Kensington Palace, with officials reportedly launching an immediate probe to shut down the wedding pictures leak.

That's according to The Sun, which has cited a royal source as saying: 'Security was compromised. Pictures were hacked then leaked.'

Photo: University lecturer in court for N19m fraud

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Friday arraigned a university lecturer, Moses Adoga, for an alleged N19 million fraud.

In a statement signed by the agency’s spokesperson, Tony Orilade, it said Mr Adoga was arraigned on a one-count charge before Justice Simon Aboki of the Nasarawa State High Court.

According to the statement, Mr Adoga, a lecturer with the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural and Applied Science, Nasarawa State University, Keffi, illegally converted N19.7 million from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), study grant for a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology at Bangor University, United Kingdom, in 2010 to personal use.

EFCC secures conviction of two Internet fraudsters

Justice Sikiru Oyinloye of Kwara State High Court, Ilorin, has convicted two Internet fraudsters, Johnson Okuselu, 23 and Saheed Olanrewaju, 25, to one year imprisonment without an option of fine for alleged internet scam.

During the trial, an investigator of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Olamide Sadiq told the court that on April 28, based on reliable information concerning the suspicious activities of defendant about internet fraud, the operatives arrested the defendants at Ilorin International Airport.

According to the prosecution Counsel, Okuselu committed an offence, contrary to sections 95, 321 of the penal code law and punishable under section 322 of the same law. Adebayo said the defendants entered a plea bargain agreement.

Suspended AIT is back on air...

African Independent Television (AIT) is back on air after the National Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) suspended its licence over alleged failure to abide by broadcasting code.

The development comes after a federal high court in Abuja nullified the suspension of the licence of DAAR Communications.

Taking over office has made me lose weight - Lagos Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu

Barely ten days after taking over the number one political seat in Lagos State, the new Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday confessed that he has started losing weight due to the demands of the office.

The immediate past governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, had handed over the state to Sanwo-Olu on the 28th of May, 2019.

INEC reacts to court order on Rochas Okorocha’s certificate of return

Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reacted to the judgement of the Federal High Court, Abuja which ruled that Rochas Okorocha be awarded his certificate of return as a senator.

“In view of the import and directives of the said judgement, the Commission will meet as soon as practicable to do the needful,” INEC national commissioner on information and voter education Festus Okoye said in a statement.

INEC refused to acknowledge Okorocha’s victory in February because the returning officer was made to announce the result under duress.

'Kaduna Assembly passes bill to grant Pastors, Imams license before preaching'

The Religious Preaching Regulation law, 1984 before the Kaduna State House of Assembly seeking substitution was on Friday passed into law, reports.

The passage of the bill came three years after the bill faced serious criticism from different religious bodies and individuals.

The bill, is to regulate religious preaching in Kaduna State with a view of promoting religious harmony and peaceful co-existence amongst the residents of the state.

Presiding over the plenary, the Speaker, Alhaji Aminu Abdullahi Shagali while reading the bill close by close said a state inter-faith Regulatory council has been established with a chairman to be appointed by the Governor on the recommendation of the Secretary to the state.

UK cable TV, Sky removes NTA from its platform

Sky, a United Kingdom’s leading cable TV platform, has barred the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) from its platform indefinitely.

A message on Sky’s website read in part, “794: NTA International; currently temporarily removed from EPG (Electronic Programme Guide).”

The suspension of NTA International came to public knowledge barely 24 hours after the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) revoked the licences of Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Raypower 100.5FM.

Sky Limited is a British media and telecommunications conglomerate owned by Comcast and headquartered in London, with operations in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy and Spain.

Court orders reopening of Dokpesi's AIT, Raypower

A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday ordered the reopening of the Africa Independent Television (AIT) and Ray Power radio.

In a ruling on Friday, the judge, Inyang Ekwo, said both parties should maintain status quo as of May 30 when the case by Daar Communication was filed.

“I have noted the eight grounds upon which the exparte application was hinged upon, application of this nature must be considered judicially and judiciously. That, I have done,” Mrs Ekwo said.

“I hereby order that parties shall maintain status quo ante bellum as at May 30, 2019 pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice filed in this case.”

Daar Communication, represented by its founder, Raymond Dokpesi, had in a exparte motion prayed the court to order the maintenance of status quo ante bellum as at May 30.

Missing sales girl, Oluwakemi Soyebo found

Family members of a 22-year-old lady, Oluwakemi Soyebo, are in the mood of joy after the missing sales girls walked home last night.

Oluwakemi was said to have gone to her place of work in the Agbara area of Ogun State on June 3, 2019, and has not returned home since. Her colleagues reportedly said Oluwakemi left the office for home at the close of work that day.

A family member, Sulaimon Adekunle, who broke the news said kemi walked home Thursday evening by herself, but has been crying uncontrollably and unable to speak with anybody since her arrival.

He attributed her return to efforts of different clerics whom her parents had contacted to help pray for her.

NUJ gives NBC 24-hours to re-open AIT, Raypower

The Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, has condemned the closure of AIT and RayPower FM by the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC giving it 24 hours to re-open the stations.

The statement signed by the President of NUJ, Chris Isiguzo and union’s National Secretary, Shuaibu Usman Leman reads;

“The Nigeria Union of Journalists is alarmed at the closure of AIT by the National Broadcasting Commission and believes that the action portends grave danger for Free Press and Independent Media.

Dad who murdered his five children weeps as photos of smiling kids is shown to jury

A single dad who murdered his five young children sobbed and wiped away tears as a court was shown photos of the smiling kids on a large screen.

Tim Jones used a handkerchief to dry his tears as his eyes and cheeks became red and puffy, and the court took a break so he could compose himself during his death penalty trial.

He also broke down when a jury was shown two mobile phone video of his daughter Merah, eight, and Elias, seven, crying and asking for their mum less than a year before they were killed.

The 37-year-old has been convicted of murdering his five children - daughters Merah and Abigail Elaine, one, and sons Elias, Nahtahn, six, and Gabriel, two - in August 2014 and is now trying to avoid a death sentence.

Obasa re-elected Lagos House of Assembly Speaker

Aww! Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has been re-elected Speaker of the 9th Lagos State House of Assembly in a consensus agreement by the lawmakers today, 7th of June, 2019.

The nomination for him to be re-elected Speaker was moved by Mr Moshood Oshun, a member representing Lagos Mainland Constituency II and it was seconded by Mr Yinka Ogundimu, representing Agege Constituency II (his personal person).

There was no other nomination for the position. Big congrats to him!

Diddy's twin daughters graduate (photo)

Sean 'Diddy' Combs is in proud dad mode celebrating his twin daughters D'Lila Star and Jessie James graduating school.

The 12-year-olds were pictured alongside a smiling Diddy in white tulle dresses and flower garlands, as well as the rest of their siblings for the momentous occasion.

Diddy wrote how proud he was of his daughters and wrote in another caption of him and the girls: "My babies are graduating!!!! Man s*** is real! I feel so good. So happy. So proud."

This is coming six months after their mum Kim Porter was tragically found dead at the age of 47 at her home in Toluca Lake, California, on November 15 after losing her battle with pneumonia.
