WHO panel decides not to declare international Ebola emergency anymore

A World Health Organization panel decided on Friday not to declare an international emergency over Congo’s Ebola outbreak despite its spread to Uganda this week, concluding such a declaration could cause too much economic harm. 

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has commenced issuance of residence permits to foreign nationals in the next three months as it moves to expel millions of illegal immigrants living in the country.

Comptroller-General of Immigration, Muhammad Babandede, disclosed this during the passing out ceremony of the 44th Superintendent Basic Course for 396 trained officers from the Immigration Training School, Kano.

NOUN Law graduates write Buhari, may opt for mass protest over delay into Law school

Law graduates of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) have rejected in totality the excuses given for delaying their admission into the Nigerian Law School for vocational training 6 months after President Muhammadu Buhari gave assent to NOUN (Amendment) Act.

The presidential assent was given to remedy the claimed irregularities in the NOUN Act as pointed out during a Public Hearing by the Senate Committee on Public Petitions.

This was contained in a communiqué to Buhari by the aggrieved students under the umbrella of Law Graduates Forum, NOUN which was signed by its chairman, Carl Umegboro and secretary, Ado Garuba on Friday in Abuja.

Ukraine wins U-20 FIFA World Cup

Ukraine have won the 2019 FIFA Under-20 World Cup after beaten South Korea 3-1 in the final on Saturday in Poland.

South Korea scored an early goal through a penalty in the 5th minute of the game. The penalty was converted by Lee Kangin.

The Ukranian team fought back to level score on 34th minute after Supriaga V scored to make it 1-1.

The Eastern European side made it 2-1 after Supriaga got his brace on 53rd minute with an assist by Konoplia.

Tsitaishvili sealed victory for Ukraine on 89th minute as he grabbed a superb goal after a solo run.

Makinde commiserates with traders after Aperin fire

Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde on Saturday expressed sadness over news of the fire incident at Aperin market, in Ibadan the state capital.

Makinde, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Taiwo Adisa, commiserated with the victims of the fire incident, saying that his government would get to the roots of the sad incident.

He said “I condole with the market men and women who lost their valuables to the fire incident.

”It saddens me to hear this is happening at a time we are putting heads together to expand the economy of this state and put more money in the pockets of our people.

Taraba varsity suspends two months strike

 The Academic Staff Union of Universities, Taraba State University Chapter, on Friday suspended its two-month-old strike, following agreement reached between the union and the state government.

The ASUU Chairman of the university, Dr.  Samuel Shikaa, disclosed this shortly   after a meeting of the union in Jalingo.

Shikaa said the offers given to the union  by the state government were partially considered and approved by  its congress,  leading to the suspension of the strike.

He added that the implementation of some parts of the agreement had commenced and the union directed members to return to work,  even as he called on the students to get back for academic activities. Good news!

Herbalist who duped Korean of N30m arraigned in court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC, Ilorin Zonal Office has arraigned a 31-year-old herbalist, Jamiu Isiaka on a four-count charge in a Kwara State High Court for impersonating the group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru and the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina and duping a Korean national in the process.

The suspect, with others at large, allegedly used the names of the senior government officials to scam a South Korean national, Keun Sig Kim to the tune of N30 million under a false pretence of securing for him an NNPC approval/marketing form and license certificate to buy crude oil in Nigeria.

According to Kim, “I transferred Four Thousand, Two Hundred and Eighty-five United States Dollars, Seventy-one cents only to the United Bank of Africa, account number 2107575870 in the name of one Jamiu Isiaka, an associate of Mr Shola Adeshina. It is noteworthy that this account particulars have been provided severally for me to make transfer to.”

I had a strange feeling before my mum died -Sotayo

Real Madrid sign Japanese Messi from FC Tokyo

Real Madrid have signed Japanese teenager Takefusa Kubo - describing him as "one of the most promising young players in the world".

The midfielder will join Real Madrid Castilla, the club's reserve team. Kubo, 18, is on duty at the Copa America with Japan, for whom he made his international debut on 9 June against El Salvador.

Two storey building collapses in Warri this afternoon

A two storey building still under construction in Warri has collapsed.

The building around the Marine Quarters axis collapsed to the ground on Friday, leaving a huge heap of rubbles.

Although there was no casualty, as there was nobody within the walls of the building as at the time of the incident, at about 1:00pm, the collapsing structure left impacts on two nearby living quarters.

According to sources at the scene of the incident, labourers working on the building had suspended works in the meantime as a result of the rains, which had been more constant in the last few days.

Shocking! Gorilla allegedly swallows N7m in Kano zoo

Another shocking story making the rounds, after last year’s JAMB money-swallowing snake, has claimed that a big Gorilla swallowed N6.8 million in the Kano Zoological Gardens during Sallah celebration.

According to BBC Pidgin, the Chief Revenue Officer for the zoo, when approached, said on Wednesday, that the said money, approximately six million, eight hundred and twenty thousand naira, was money realised as gate fee from fun-seekers who had visited the zoo during Sallah celebration to watch the animals.

A local radio station in the state, Freedom Radio had reported on Thursday that one of the finance officers it spoke with had said that one huge Gorilla sneaked into their office and carried the money and ran away, where it went and allegedly swallowed the close to seven million naira. Also, when asked, the Managing Director of the zoo, Kashekobo, confirmed the development to the BBC Pidgin but, however, said that he had nothing more to say about it other than that the matter was under investigation.

Boris Johnson appears to have finally admitted taking cocaine after mounting questions dogged his Tory leadership battle.

Asked directly when he last used the Class A drug, the Tory leadership frontrunner replied by saying a "single inconclusive event" when he was a teenager.

Asked if he had taken cocaine since then, he replied: "No."

Mr Johnson was quizzed by BBC Radio 4's The World At One after dodging questions on the subject at his leadership launch this week.

Trader allegedly steals woman’s handbag

A 29-year-old trader, Musediq Alkasim, who allegedly stole a woman’s handbag worth N7,000, on Friday appeared in a Kubwa Grade I Area Court.

The police charged Alkasim with theft.

The Prosecution Counsel, John Okpa, told the court that the complainant, Miss Joy Ali reported the matter at the Kubwa Police Station on June 5.

He alleged that the handbag was recovered from the defendant by some youths who chased after him.

Oyetola visits Buratai over insecurity in Osun

Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State has urged the Chief of Army Staff , Lt.- Gen. Tukur Buratai, to speed up action on the joint security team to combat rising security challenge in the state.

A statement issued in Osogbo by Mr Adeniyi Adeshina, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said Oyetola made the plea when he met with Buratai in Abuja.

The News Agency of Nigeria recalls that the Osun government had announced that a joint security team of policemen, soldiers and operatives in other security agencies would be set up to patrol the highways and dark spots.

According to Adeshina, the governor told the Chief of Army Staff that his visit was a follow up to the letter of request sent to him to support the security efforts in the state.

Man sues fiancee for calling off wedding

A businessman, Alhaji Shehu Marafa, on Friday prayed a Gudu Grade II Court to order his estranged fiancee to return the N500,000 he gave her to plan their wedding.

Marafa filed a suit against Aisha Shetima over her failure to honor the marriage agreement between them.

He alleged that Shetima collected N500,000 to plan for their wedding.

In his testimony before the court, Marafa claimed that in February, he went to meet Shetima’s parents in Bauchi after which he paid N50,000 as bride price and gave the parents N20,000, a basket of Kola nuts and a carton of sweets as part of the marriage negotiations.

20-year-old drowns in a pond while bathing

A 20-year-old man, Mustapha Abdullahi, has drowned while bathing in a pond at Kofar Mata by Hauran Balago Municipal in Kano.

The Public Relations Officer of the State Fire Service, Mr Saidu Mohammed, made the disclosure in Kano on Friday.

Mohammed said that the incident happened on Friday morning when the deceased went to take his bath.

“We received a distress call today from one Malam Muhammadu Rabiu at about 08:00a.m. that Abdullahi’s body was found floating in a pond.

South Korean court tells cheating husband he must stay married

A cheating husband cannot divorce his wife despite having a years-long affair, a South Korean court ruled Friday (Jun 14), insisting only the injured party in a marriage could initiate a legal separation.

Movie director Hong Sang-soo, 58, a Cannes film festival regular, filed for divorce in 2016, shortly after his relationship with actress Kim Min-hee became public.

But Hong's wife, whom he wed in 1985, refused to play along - leading to a drawn-out legal battle that has lasted for years.

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Friday told officials of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA not to spare anyone who violated traffic laws, even if it was his brother.

Sanwo–Olu, who was at LASTMA office in Oshodi, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Friday said emphatically that if his brother broke traffic law, he should be arrested.

According to him, there would be no sacred cow in the enforcement of the law, saying that if anyone broke traffic law and was arrested and he said he knew the governor, “tell him to call the governor to pay the money for the offence.”
