Super Eagles player, Samuel Kalu who collapsed on training ground is in stable condition (photo)

Super Eagles striker Samuel Kalu was reported to have collapsed in training ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations. Kalu, 21, plays his club football with Bordeaux and is with the Super Eagles in Egypt.

Kalu is said to have collapsed while taking a corner in training as he was immediately attended to by medical staff. He was then immediately taken to a nearby hospital. The youngster was found to have been dehydrated and urged to take more fluids on board. This photo however shows his stable condition.

FAAN speaks after Air Peace plane skids off in Port Harcourt runway

An Air Peace aircraft P47291 from Abuja on Saturday skidded off the runway at the Port Harcourt Airport, Omagwa, while landing due to downpour.

However, there was no casualty in the incident, which occurred at 3.42 p.m.

Mrs. Henrietta Yakubu, General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), confirmed the incident.

Yakubu said although the Boeing 737-500 aircraft skidded off the runway, the pilot was able to stop the aircraft.

Vice-President Osinbajo on a 5-day official visit to US

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will depart Nigeria on Saturday  for U.S. where he will be meeting with his U.S. counterpart, Mr Mike Pence, and other key groups and interests in the country.

Osinbajo’s spokesman, Mr Laolu Akande, disclosed this in a statement in Abuja.

Ahead of his meeting with Pence on Wednesday in Washington D.C, Osinbajo will be meeting with the Council on Foreign Relations on Monday in New York.

In his meeting with Pence, Osinbajo will be discussing matters of mutual interests between Nigeria and the U.S.

Expect 100% hike in drug prices, PSN tells Nigerians

The Lagos State Branch of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria has warned that there will soon be at least 100 per cent increase in drug prices across the country.

The Chairman of PSN in the state, Mrs Bolanle Adeniran, who spoke at an event organised by the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industries on Thursday, said the price increase might take effect in about six months from now if the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control does not reverse the 350 per cent levy it imposed on drug and product registration in the country.

According to a statement by the PSN on Friday, Adeniran said the Director-General, NAFDAC, Prof Mojisola Adeyeye, had carried out various landmark reforms in the sector, including ISO Certification of laboratory facilities, reducing the sector’s political exposure and subjecting NAFDAC to the World Health Organisation global benchmark.

Girl rusticated from Babcock University is impregnated by 72-year old prophet, but sadly dies during child birth

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 72-year-old prophet of Celestial Church of Christ in Ipaja area,  Jacob Adegboyega Farinmade for allegedly killing a female undergraduate he impregnated.

The deceased, identified simply as Bunmi allegedly died during childbirth, while the clergyman secretly buried her without informing her parents.

Bunmi was said to have been  taken by her father to live with her mother following her rustication in 200 level at Babcock University in Ilisan Remo, Ogun State in 2014.

Bunmi’s mother, Derayo Omisipi thereafter took her to the embattled cleric for spiritual deliverance and protection.

Murdered girl, 15, sent chilling final text saying mum's lover was 'in her room'

A teenage girl sent her boyfriend a chilling final message reading 'he's in my room' moments before she was allegedly killed by her mother's lover.

Terrified Riley Crossman, 15, sent her last two text messages just 12 minutes apart after 11pm on May 7, and was reported missing the next day by mum Chantal Oakley.

Police found the 15-year-old's body on an embankment in Martinsburg, West Virginia, US, a week later but her body was decomposed so badly that it may take months to establish the cause of her death, according to WDTV .

Earthquake strikes in France but there were no major damage… for now

A 4.9 magnitude earthquake has hit western France, with tremors felt as far as Bordeaux in the south and Normandy in the north.

The epicentre of the quake that took place at 6.50am local time was near the town of Bressuire, according to the national seismic service.

No damage has been reported so far, but Col. Michael Bernier, a spokesman for the national civil security service, said it prompted concern because "so many people felt it".

The quake shook a swath of France including the cities of Le Mans, Nantes, Rennes and Caen.

Plane crash kills all nine on board in Hawaii

Nine people died when a small, twin-engine aircraft used by skydivers crashed Friday evening near Dillingham Airfield in Mokuleia on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, officials said.

Family members of the skydivers were reportedly not far from the site when the crash happened.

The mangled remains of the King Air plane were seen in a photo posted by a local newspaper and distributed by the Associated Press.

“In my 44 years as a firefighter in Hawaii, this is the most tragic incident that we’ve had,” Honolulu Fire Chief Manuel Neves told the Star-Advertiser, describing the incident.

Man caught with three-year-old boy’s head in Abuja

The police in Abuja have arrested one Mustapha Aliyu with the freshly severed head of a three-year-old boy, identified as Usman Awalu.

The 22-year-old reportedly confessed that he had beheaded four children, adding that he was paid N170,000 for every male head and N160,000 for the female head he supplied to his boss, who is at large.

Aliyu was also said to have informed detectives during interrogation that he had so far supplied four human heads to his master.

Parading the suspect and others in Abuja on Friday, the Commissioner of Police in charge of the Federal Capital Territory, Bala Ciroma, explained that the suspect took his victims from Sheda, Kwali, Kilankwa, Gwako and Leleyi villages, in the Kwali Area Council of the FCT.

DPO and Girlfriend arrested over death of housemaid

A  Divisional Police Officer in  Mashi, Katsina State,SP  Garba Talawai, has been arrested along with his girlfriend, Sadiya  Danyaya, over the death of the latter’s  16-year-old housemaid.

Spokesman for the  police in the state, SP Gambo Isah, confirmed the duo’s  arrest in a  statement on Friday.

The deceased was identified as  Rabi Abdullahi.

The statement  said, “Yesterday (Thursday)  at about 12.00hrs, one Abubakar Haruna,  a councillor in Mashi LGA, reported to the DPO of Mashi, SP  Garba Talawai,  that a  corpse was seen at a bush path in Mashi.

President Donald Trump’s interview with a team of reporters from Time magazine took a sudden turn when he made a comment about prison time for a journalist.

The exchange happened in the Oval Office on Monday. Time published the interview transcript on Thursday evening, and that’s when the comment started to get attention.

Gunmen on motorcycles massacre 18 in Zamfara

Suspected gunmen have killed 18 persons in some communities in Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara, the Emir of Tsafe, Alhaji Muhammad Bawa has disclosed.

The Emir made the disclosure on Friday while receiving a House of Representatives member representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency , Alhaji Kabir Mai-Palace in Gusau.

Mai-Palace was at the Emir’s palace to condole with him and entire people of the area over the attacks.

The emir said that the attackers invaded Bamamu, Danmale and Sako communities, Thursday evening and killed 18 persons, adding that they came with over 50 motorcycles shot sporadically on the air.

Kashamu smuggled 6.6kg of heroin into USA

The National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency( NDLEA ) has for the first time given graphic details of why the United States is desperate to seek the extradition of Senator Buruji Kashamu from Nigeria.

In court papers filed by the NDLEA to oppose Buruji’s legal bid to stop the extradition, the NDLEA said Buruji is wanted in the USA because of the 6.6kg of heroin he allegedly imported into the country in 1994.

The Anti-Drug Law agency claimed that the Senator who represented Ogun East Senatorial District in the 8th Assembly, imported the hard drug into the USA as the head of a large drug smuggling syndicate operating in Africa, Asia, Europe and America at the period.

In the 54-paragraph counter affidavit filed at the court, to debunk the innocence of the Senator, the NDLEA averred that Kashamu was indicted for hard drug offences in the USA.

Musician allegedly jailed for two years in Kano for singing Anti-Ganduje song

A magistrate court in Kano has sentenced a budding songster, Mohammed Yusuf, to two years imprisonment for defaming the character of the state governor, Abdullahi Ganduje in a viral song.

Mr Yusuf, popularly known as AGY, recorded the innuendo-laden hit song which dwells on the governor’s alleged avarice, creation of new emirates in the state and election rigging.

The singer was arrested by the police on Monday night and arraigned before Magistrate Court 72, Noman’s Land presided by Aminu Gabari.

During the summary trial on Wednesday, the court found Mr Yusuf guilty of three-count charges of releasing a song without the approval of the Kano State Censorship Board, releasing a video without obtaining same approval and defamation of the character of Mr Ganduje.

14-year old Nigerian boy made to marry 15-year old girlfriend he impregnated (see wedding video)

A video from somewhere in the South East has shown how a father gave her daughter, 15,  out in marriage to a 14-year old boy.

According to reports making the rounds, the 14-year-old boy was forced to marry the girl after he impregnated her.

In the video, the father of the bride was heard advising her to be careful as she is no longer in her father’s house. The union has however been condemned by many on social media.

Court remands 20-year old boy who allegedly impregnated 16-year old girl in prison

A Magistrates’ Court in Minna on Friday ordered that a 20-year old student, Babangida Husseini, who allegedly impregnated a 16-year old, be remanded in prison.

The police charged Husseini with two counts of unlawful sexual intercourse with a child and impregnating a student.

Magistrate Mariam Kings ordered that the case be adjourned till July 16 for the prosecution to call its witnesses, even though Husseini pleaded guilty to the charge.

Kings held that the adjournment is to enable the police present more evidence to establish its case considering the gravity of the offence.

Lagos to integrate sexual education in curriculum

The Lagos State Government will integrate Comprehensive Sexuality Education (CSE) in the curriculum of Non-Formal Vocational Training Schools.

This, the government said, is to improve the lives of young persons and contribute to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goal target by 2030.

According to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Youth and Social Development, Dr Bola Balogun, sexuality is an important aspect of human life and the integration of CSE into the curriculum is germane to the wellbeing of human being, adding that it will aid a life-saving Sexual Reproductive Health Right (SRHR) for young people.

I will engage traditional rulers to improve security in Oyo State - Makinde

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has stated that his administration will rely heavily on traditional rulers to improve the security of lives and property.

He, therefore, informed the traditional rulers that he will soon start knocking on their doors for consultations.

A 23-year-old, John Joshua, arrested by men of Niger State Police Command for stabbing his neighbour to death, said he carried out the act because the deceased disrespected his father.

Speaking with journalists after his arrest, Joshua said: “I killed him because he insulted my father and this is not acceptable to me because I have never insulted his father before and I don’t see any reason why he should disrespect my own father.

“What annoyed me most was that when I confronted the deceased, he did not show any sign of remorse. I stabbed him in his ribs to teach him a lesson, so that in his next life, he will learn to be respectful to elders.”

Passenger jet abandons take-off after foetus is found blocking toilet of FlySafair flight in South Africa

A South African airliner abandoned take-off this morning after an "abandoned foetus" was discovered blocking the aircraft's toilet.

Flight FA 411 by Fly Safair from Johannesburg to Durban was scheduled to take off King Shaka International Airport this morning at 6.15am.

But on final preparations for take-off one of the airline's cleaning staff discovered the foetus blocking the toilet of the aircraft.

The plane had reportedly been parked overnight at the airport after it landed at the airport late on Thursday evening.

FG directs immediate return of history study to schools

The Federal Government has directed all basic and secondary schools across the country to immediately implement the teaching of history as a standalone subject from the next academic calendar.

Mr Sonny Echono, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education made this known on Friday in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria in Abuja.

The Federal Government on June 18 promised the return history to school curriculum while ensuring that all primary school teachers are trained to deliver digital literacy.

According to Echono, the directive has already been given and it is automatic that all the schools should implement simultaneously.

Kaduna to nurture 500 secondary school girls

The Kaduna State Government said that it had concluded plans to support the growth and development of 500 secondary school girls into successful entrepreneurs.

Assistant Director, Female Education in the state’s Ministry of Education, Mrs Esther Kayock, made this known at a capacity building programme organised for girls in public schools in Kaduna.

The programme tagged “The Girl Agenda: Setting the Pace” was organised by an NGO, Women Connect Initiative (WCI) to train, empower and nurture young girls interested in doing business.

Kayock explained that the entrepreneurs would be developed under Gov Nasir El-Rufai led-administration’s policy on female education, as part of efforts to make the state a hub of commerce and start-ups.
