Dino Melaye forgets to remove Kogi Governorship poster from twitter profile after losing primaries


The senator had changed his profile photo on twitter to one of his governorship campaign posters,  shortly before the PDP governorship primaries in Kogi, in which he lost, but it seems he has now forgotten to change it. Hopefully he will now.

Zinedine Zidane believes he has the backing of Real Madrid but admits he would leave if he ever felt he had lost the club’s support.

An Indian woman has given birth to a daughter with four legs and three hands after she became conjoined to another baby in the womb.

Raju, 24, naturally delivered twins, a boy and a girl, at a hospital in Tonk in Rajasthan on Friday.

While the boy was born healthy, the girl had with an extra set of legs and another hand covering her entire chest and abdomen.

Doctors believe Raju could have been carrying triplets, but one of the baby's joined to the little girl.

Tunisia's ousted ex-president Ben Ali who died in exile is buried in Saudi Arabia

Tunisia’s former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was buried in the Muslim holy city of Medina on Saturday, witnesses said, after he died in exile in Saudi Arabia.

Ben Ali, who died Thursday in the city of Jeddah, was laid to rest at Al-Baqi cemetery next to the Prophet Mohammed’s mosque and a place of great reverence for Muslims.

Some of his family were to receive condolences on Sunday in an upmarket suburb of Tunis, according to a small notice published in Tunisia’s La Presse newspaper.

Somalia's President signs anti-corruption bill into law

Somalia’s President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed on Saturday signed an anti-graft bill into law, a long-awaited piece of legislation in one of the world’s most corrupt nations.

The president, better known by his nickname Farmajo, came into office in 2017 vowing to combat the scourge which permeates evert aspect of life.

The new law will pave the way for the formation of independent anti-corruption commissions both on the federal and regional level, according to a statement from the president’s office.

“Corruption is worse than cancer because cancer kills only the individual, but corruption kills the whole society. I hope those who will be selected to be members of the committees will be decent, religious and patriotic,” the president said in a statement released Saturday after the signature.

It's official! Tribunal affirms Ihedioha as Imo Governor

The Imo State Election Tribunal has affirmed the election of Emeka Ihedioha as governor of the state.

The chairman of the tribunal, Justice Umar Dogondaji, in his ruling on Saturday, dismissed the petition of Senator Hope Uzodinma because he did not discharge the burden of proof of the allegation that his results were excluded from the final results of the election.

He also dismissed the petition of the All Progressives Grand Alliance and its governorship candidate Senator Ifeanyi Arareume for lacking in merit as well as that of the candidate of the Action Alliance Party, Mr. Uche Nwosu, for incompetence.

Police arrest 21-year-old man for allegedly raping 10 of his boss' children

The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) has arrested a 21-year-old gay boy who is a house help, Usman Abubakar for allegedly sodomising 10 minors in Sokoto.

The Sokoto Zonal Commander of NAPTIP, Mr Hassan Tahir, who disclosed this to newsmen on Thursday, said all the minors were children of the suspect’s master.

According to Tahir, the suspect had confessed to sodomizing the 10 children. He said the offence occurred at Rungumi area in Sokoto South Local Government of Sokoto state.

According to him, Abubakar was a student of an Almajiri school before his engagement as house help about 10 years ago. He said that the suspect who is from Kebbi would soon be arraign before the Court.

Man dies during underwater proposal to girlfriend

A Louisiana man drowned while trying to make an underwater marriage proposal to his girlfriend while the couple was on vacation.

Steven Weber Jr., of Baton Rouge died this week while proposing to his girlfriend Kenesha Antoine underwater while in Tanzania.

Antoine, an attorney, posted about the tragic accident on her Facebook page early Friday with photos and videos of the proposal.

Seven PDP governors meet in Rivers state

Governors of seven states of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday met in Port Harcourt.

According to Mr Simeon Nwakaudu, Special Assistant (Electronic Media) to Gov. Nyesom Wike, the meeting was attended by Govs. Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Emeka Ihedioha (Imo); Seyi Makinde (Oyo); Samuel Ortom (Benue); Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto); and Mohammed Mattawale (Zamfara).

After the meeting, Tambuwal explained that the governors were in Rivers to commend Wike “for his sustained projects delivery”.

He said the governors urged him to continue to deliver quality projects and sustain good governance for the development of Rivers State.

Apprentice commits suicide three months after boyfriend did the same

An apprentice tailor in Lagos, Adenike Fatai, has committed suicide barely three months after her boyfriend, Bayo Atanda, reportedly did the same thing.

Fatai, who hailed from Kwara State, reportedly took a poisonous substance suspected to be sniper around 8.30pm, last Thursday.

The 25-year-old woman lived with her mother on Igbekele Street, Iyana Cele bus stop, Shibiri area of Lagos State.

City Round learnt that Fatai had been battling depression since her boyfriend, whom she was living with in Orile, a neigbouring community, reportedly took a poison and died.

Sowore slammed with fresh charges of treason, money laundering, cyberstalking President Buhari

The Federal Government has slammed a fresh seven-count charge against detained political activist and convener of the RevolutionNow Protest, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, accusing him of treason, money laundering and cyberstalking President Muhammadu Buhari.

The case was filed at the Abuja Division of the Federal High Court and it comes 24 hours to the expiration of the 45-day period the court permitted the DSS to hold him.

Also charged with Sowore in case FHC/ ABJ/CR/235/2019, is Olawale Adebayo Bakare (aka Mandate), who was arrested in Osogbo, Osun state.

According to the charge, the Federal Government alleges that the defendants conspired to commit treasonable felony, contrary to section 516 of the criminal Code Act Cap C38 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, and punishable under the same section of the Act.

India police arrest Nigerian Onwumere for overstaying

A Nigerian, along with a Sri Lankan was detained by the Kancheepuram district police near Mamallapuram on charges of staying illegally in India.

The two men were caught during a door-to-door inspection ahead of the informal meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese president Xi Jinping scheduled to take place in the coastal town from October 11 to 13.

While the travel documents of the Nigerian had expired, the Lankan national was found to have entered the country illegally a decade ago, Times of India reported.

Police identified the Nigerian as Chukwa Onwumere Zef, 36. He was staying in the house of Nagamuthu in Venpurusham, a village near Mamallapuram.

Governor Wike reacts to arrest of serial killer

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has reacted to the arrest of a suspected Port Harcourt serial killer, Gracious David West, who confessed to have killed seven women.

Addressing journalists at the Government House, Port Harcourt after an emergency meeting of the Rivers State Security Council on Friday, Wike said that the meeting was impressed by the successes recorded by the Police in the last few days, especially the arrest of three suspects.

Speaking on behalf of Wike, Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr Tammy Danagogo, said that the meeting commended the painstaking efforts of the Nigeria Police and other security agencies, which had led to improved security across the state.

Police confirm abduction of ASUU chairman

Reports on abduction of some lecturers of the Oyo State College of Agriculture and Technology(OYSCATECH), has been confirmed by the police on Friday.

The Chairman, Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics of the college, Mr. Opadijo Olujide; his secretary, Gbenga Alayande; and three others were reportedly kidnapped on their way from Saki on Thursday.

It was gathered that they were returning from a union meeting when the incident occurred. No fewer than five persons had been abducted at different times, in the last two months, in Ibarapaland.

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan said on Friday that the National Assembly is eager to receive the 2020 budget proposals.

“We are hopeful and optimistic, as well as hungry and thirsty, to receive the 2020 appropriations bill,” Lawan told reporters shortly on his arrival from a private visit abroad.

Lawan seized the advantage of the National Assembly’s current recess to travel on a private visit to Morocco and Germany.

“I am aware that the executive arm of government is working assiduously to ensure that the appropriation bill for the year 2020 is presented to the National Assembly by the end of this month.

$9.6bn judgment: Grace Taiga ex-Petroleum Resources senior official sent to prison

Mrs. Grace Taiga, a female accomplice in the mega fraud, involving Process and Industrial Developments (P&ID) was remanded in Suleja Prison on Friday, on the orders of Justice O.A. Adeniyi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, sitting in Apo, Abuja.

She is being prosecuted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Mrs.Taiga, a former director, Legal Services in the Ministry of Petroleum Resources was a key actor in the fraudulent Gas Supply and Processing Agreement (GSPA) between the federal government and P&ID. She is alleged to have used her position to administer undue favours to the company.

MKO Abiola’s daughter Hafsat has been named as one of three honorees selected for the US National Civil Rights Museum’s 28th Annual Freedom Award to held on October 30 in Memphis, Tennessee.

According to a statement, honorees are selected for their many achievements and contributions on a national and global scale in the name of equality, social justice and freedom for all.

Other 2019 honorees include musician and social activist, John Legend and author and feminist organizer, Gloria Steinem.

I feel irresistible urge to always kill and I kill alone - Port Harcourt serial killer

The 39-year old notorious Port Harcourt serial killer, Gracious David West, has confessed to have killed seven women in Rivers, Lagos and Imo States.

West, who hails from Buguma in Asari-Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, confessed that he killed five women in Port Harcourt, one in Ikeja and another in Owerri and survived on the money he stole from the victims’ ATM cards.

He made the confession on Friday, while being paraded by Mustapha Dandaura, Commissioner of Police, Rivers State Police at the police’s headquarters.

Twitter closes thousands of fake news accounts

Twitter said on Friday it has closed down thousands of accounts across the world for spreading fake news as well as pro-government propaganda, including in places like the United Arab Emirates, China, and Spain.

Accounts coming from China seeking to sow discord among protesters in Hong Kong were closed down, as were accounts amplifying a pro-Saudi message coming from Egypt and the United Arab Emirates directed at Qatar and Yemen, Twitter said.

Fake news accounts were also suspended in Spain and Ecuador.

Indonesia President urges delay in Law banning s.e.x outside marriage

Indonesian President Joko Widodo on Friday called for a delay in passing a new law that would outlaw gay and pre-marital s-x after the controversial plan sparked a public outcry.

The proposed criminal code overhaul should get a closer look given the backlash, Widodo said, as he asked that parliament scrap a planned vote on the revisions before its session ends next week.

The mooted changes could affect millions in the world’s biggest Muslim majority country, including gay and heterosexual couples who might face jail for having sex outside wedlock or having an affair.

On Friday, the Australian embassy in Jakarta issued a fresh travel advisory for Indonesia, warning that the legislation could put unmarried foreign tourists in the crosshairs.

Tribunal affirms Ikpeazu’s election as Abia Governor

The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Umuahia on Friday upheld the victory of Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as the governor of Abia State.

The tribunal also dismissed the petition filed by Alex Otti of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA).

Chairman of the panel, Justice Lekan Ogumonye while delivering a unanimous judgement held that the petitioner failed to prove his allegations of over-voting and non compliance with the electoral act in the conduct of the election.

Trump announces US sanctions on Iran Central Bank

President Donald Trump on Friday announced new sanctions on Iran’s central bank, calling the measures the “highest” sanctions ever imposed on a foreign country by the United States.

“We have just sanctioned the Iranian national bank,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, later clarifying that he was referring to the Iranian central bank.

“These are the highest sanctions ever imposed on a country,” he said.

Trump earlier this week announced what he said would be substantial new sanctions against Iran, in response to what US officials say was likely Iranian involvement in an attack on Saudi oil facilities.

Young people take to streets in Global Climate protest

Anxious about their future on a hotter planet, angry at world leaders for failing to arrest the crisis, thousands of young people began pouring into the streets on Friday for a day of global climate protest.

“I fight for climate justice action because everyone deserves a safe future, which is something our government is not supporting yet,” said Niamh O’Connor Smith, 17, who addressed the crowd in Melbourne, Australia, at one of the first global rallies. “Together, we will change that.”

More than 100,000 protested in Melbourne, in what organizers said was the largest climate action in the country’s history. The rally shut down key public transport corridors for hours.

Fatoyinbo wants court to throw out Busola Dakolo’s suit, as he demands N50m damages

Senior pastor of the Commonwealth of Zion Assembly (COZA), Biodun Fatoyinbo, has asked the FCT High Court to dismiss the suit filed by Busola Dakola.

In an application filed through his lawyers, he also demanded that he is awarded a sum of N50 million as damages.

According to the application, he called for the dismissal of the suit on the grounds that it is incompetent and frivolous.

This comes about two weeks after Mrs Dakolo had demanded that the pastor apologises for allegedly defiling her.

Teenager kidnaps uncle’s daughter for N6m ransom

An 18-year-old girl has been arrested in Gombe for allegedly kidnapping the five-year old daughter of her uncle.

The suspect, Hadiza Babayo of Lafiya Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa state was arrested on Friday by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) in Gombe.

The teenager was alleged to have connived with one Bala Shuaibu of the same address and abducted the victim from school.

Parading the suspects before newsmen, the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Obed Mary Malum said the suspects kept the girl at a hotel in Nayi-Nawa area of Gombe metropolis and demanded N6 million as ransom from her parents.

Absence of Police witness stalls Evans trial

The absence of a police witness on Friday stalled the trial of alleged kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, alias Evans in an Ikeja Special Offences Court.

News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the trial had to be adjourned due to the absence of Insp Idowu Haruna, the Investigation Police Officer (IPO) and a member Inspector General of Police (IGP) Intelligence Response Team.

Informing the court of the development, the state prosecutor, Mrs. O.A Badulaiye-Bishi, said “the matter is for a continuation of trial. The prosecution witness has travelled outside the court’s jurisdiction. Unfortunately, we will have to request an adjournment date,”
