Priest dies in an early morning fire at St Peter’s Catholic Church, Anambra (photos)

A Catholic priest in Anambra state, Edmond Nwagbala, has been burnt to death in a fire incident in Nnewi Anambra state.

The fire incident, it was gathered, began at 04:00am in the morning at St.Peter Claver Catholic Parish Ichi in Nnewi North LGA of Anambra State.

The deceased was the priest in charge of the parish and was sleeping in the Parish House when the fire started.

Police spokesman, Haruna Mohammed, confirmed the incident.

Two arrested for planning to attack French president

Two men close to the ultra-right were indicted for "terrorist criminal conspiracy" and placed in pre-trial detention, as part of the investigation of a bombing project against French President Emmanuel Macron, reported Franceinfo, a French domestic rolling news channel, on Saturday.

The two suspects, aged 30 and 45 respectively, were believed to have planned an action against President Macron during the commemoration of the centenary of the end of the First World War, in November 2018, said Franceinfo quoting a Parisian judicial source.

The two were arrested Monday in Moselle, northeastern France. They had been presented to an examining magistrate for their indictment. The national anti-terrorist prosecutor's office had requested their detention on remand.

LASG denies news on paying N35,000 minimum wage

Lagos State Government on Saturday has denied the news of an agreement to start paying N35,000 minimum wage. The Government said it has not yet agreed with labour to pay N35,000 as the new minimum wage for workers, saying negotiations is still ongoing.

Comrade Rasaq Adio Falade, State Chairman, JNC had on Friday said government had settled for N35,000 as the new minimum wage and that the payment would begin at the end of this month.

He said necessary terms of settlement and agreement were reached after the end of the meeting on Friday.

Tonto Dikeh allegedly arrested in Dubai and might be deported

Tonto Dikeh has been arrested in Dubai. This reportedly happened last night at the entrance of an event she was to attend.

According to sources, when Tonto arrived the venue, the security refused to let her in. This they said made her upset as others strolled in, and she lost her temper. She shouted at him and used unprintable names i.e calling the security guard a nigga and asking if he knows who she is.

They also said, her friends who were with her, Timi and Bob had to move aside when they could not control her.

Sources say police were called in and she was whisked away.

It's also on good note that she could be deported if the matter is not properly handled.

Ballot snatching at Dino Melaye’s polling unit

Ballot snatching and smashing have been reported from Senator Dino Melaye’s polling unit in Kogi state.

The Nation reported that hoodlums who arrived in a black Hilux van and Honda Civic car broke one of the boxes and carted away the other, while shooting into the air.

Those who were yet to vote scamper for safety as the thugs arrived the unit.

Hoodlums also reportedly attacked the town hall polling unit and carted away the ballot boxes.

Esperanza Gomez, 33, is claimed to have carried out the act in an apartment in Miami Beach, US, where the couple had been drinking from 9pm until 3am.

The row is believed to have been sparked after Esperanze accused her boyfriend of wanting to have s.e.x with a friend who had joined them in the apartment.

She arrived at midnight and left shortly afterwards.

A bride-to-be has left people horrified by the state of her "disease-ridden bacteria-filled" nails after sharing a ring photo.

The picture shows a silver ring with a huge diamond in the middle as well as other smaller diamonds around the twisted band.

But people seemed disinterested in the ring and instead appeared to be distracted by what was 'living under' her nails.

One said they looked like they were filled with bacteria, claiming the photo had made her sick in her mouth, The Sun reports.

Kogi Decides: Sporadic shooting, as thugs snatch 8 ballot boxes, card readers

Thugs in police uniform have invaded Ward A of Crowther Memorial/Sabongari polling unit in Lokoja, Kogi State and successfully carted away eight ballot boxes after sporadic shooting.

“Eight ballot boxes were carted away,’ according to Peter Phillips, Assistant Registration officer.

He added that the card readers, his car key and phone were also taken away by the invaders.

Police officers deployed to the polling unit also joined journalists and party agents to scramble for safety as guns boom from the guns of the invaders.

The election has been peaceful and registration officers were waiting to commence collation before the invasion.

President Buhari returns earlier than expected

President Muhammadu Buhari has cut short his two-week private visit to London by two days as he arrived the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja on Friday evening.

The president, who was on official visit to Saudi Arabia before the commencement of the private visit to London on Nov. 2, was initially scheduled to return to Nigeria on Nov. 17.

The president attended the third Future Investment Initiative in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he later performed the Lesser Hajj alongside Governors Atiku Bagudu, Aminu Masari and Babagana Zulum of Kebbi, Katsina and Borno States.

Money Laundering: EFCC re-arraigns 606 Auto Dealer boss Babafemi Sarumi

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Lagos office, has re-arraigned one Samusideen Babafemi Sarumi, owners of 606 Autos Limited, 606 Music Limited and Splash Off Entertainment Limited on a three-count charge bordering on felony to commit money laundering and money laundering to the tune of N209 million.

He was arraigned before Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court sitting at Ikoyi, Lagos.

The defendant who was earlier arraigned by the EFCC, November 4, 2019 was alleged to have been involved in computer related fraud across the world.

He was also alleged to have taken possession of eight vehicles valued at N135 million and a Boat valued at N104 million, which were reasonably suspected to be part of proceeds of an organized crimes across the world.

Taylor Swift's former record company has hit back at the singer for making 'false' claims that the label banned her from singing her own songs on television.

In a Friday morning statement, Big Machine Label Group also alleged that Swift owes 'millions of dollars' to their label and that her social media posts are threatening the safety of their employees.

17 year-old violinist found hanged in her Russian banker father's £9m west London mansion

A gifted teenage violinist was found hanged at her father's mansion just eight days after she performed at the Royal Opera House, an inquest has heard.

Katya Tsukanova, the 17-year-old daughter of Russian banker Igor Tsukanov, was found dead at her £9m home in west London on June 18 this year.

An inquest today heard that Katya, who was a student at the £12,600-a-term Wycombe Abbey boarding school in Buckinghamshire, had previously told a psychologist she was struggling to cope with GCSE exam stress, but was on a gap year before starting her A-Levels when she died.

Her father initially believed a cocktail of drugs, known as a 'Calvin Klein', may have contributed to her death, but the inquest heard she had alcohol but no drugs in her system. She died from fatal compression to the neck.

LASG advises residents to be tolerant as state joins celebration of 'International Day of Tolerance'

The Lagos State Government has called for mutual respect of views, culture and religion among residents as the State joins other countries of the world to commemorate the 2019 United Nations International Day of Tolerance come 16th November, 2019.

Commissioner for Home Affairs, Mrs Uzamat Akinbile-Yussuf advised residents in the State to be tolerant with one another as people are bound to have diverse opinions about issues and beliefs, adding that mutual understanding is a form of respect for Human Rights.

Akinbile-Yussuf emphasized that Lagos State is a cosmopolitan State with every citizens of the world having either business, tourism or entertainment reasons to be in Lagos hence the need for all to be accommodative and tolerant with differences that may come up in the process of interpersonal relationships.

Lagos Governor, Sanwo-Olu to start payment of N35,000 new minimum wage this month

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has concluded arrangement to pay N35,000 as the new minimum wage for workers beginning from November, 2019.

The decision was arrived at after series of meetings and discussions between the Lagos State Joint Public Service Negotiating Council (JNC) and Lagos State Government as witnessed by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) on the payment of the New Minimum Wage to Lagos State Public Sector Workers on Friday.

'Arrogant' former minister's son jailed over toddler Alfie Lamb's car seat death

The "arrogant" son of former Government minister Nigel Waterson has been jailed for the manslaughter of his girlfriend's infant son.

Stephen Waterson, 26, repeatedly tried to absolve himself of blame after three-year-old Alfie Lamb was crushed to death by his car seat in the footwell of Waterson's Audi convertible on February 15 last year.

Waterson, described by police as being "arrogant, selfish and deeply unpleasant", subsequently sought to distance himself from the death and lying to police as the prospect of a conviction loomed.

He was jailed for seven years and six months at the Old Bailey on Thursday.
