Three people are murdered in shooting at Russia's Secret Service headquarters

Three people have died and others injured during a shooting at the Russian Federal Security Service office.

Russia's security service (FSB) said one of its employees was killed in the incident at its headquarters in central Moscow on Thursday evening.

Contrary to earlier reports, the FSB said there was only one attacker in the incident and that the shooter did not manage to get inside the FSB building.

At least ten gunshots were heard with one man shouting “stop, I said stop”, a source claimed.

Bayelsa government to support undergraduates with N350m education loan scheme

The Bayelsa State Government has earmarked N350million for the takeoff of the state’s Higher Education Students Loan Scheme. The scheme is aimed at supporting undergraduates from the state.

Governor Seriake Dickson announced this yesterday at the launching of the Bayelsa State Higher Education Students Loan Scheme and distribution of textbooks and uniforms to public primary and secondary schools in the state.

He directed the Higher Education Students Loan Scheme board to immediately process and release funds to deserving students.

The shocking trend shows no signs of declining with a number of high-profile incidents in recent months.

In November, Brescia's Mario Balotelli - a former team-mate of Toure - called fans who shouted racist abuse at him "small-minded" and "imbeciles", while Cagliari fans made monkey noises towards Inter Milan's Romelu Lukaku earlier in the season.

Jury awards $43.5m to Brooklyn teenager hit by bus

A Brooklyn jury has awarded a $43.5 million verdict to a girl who was struck by a school bus in 2017 when she was 11 years old, which gave her skull fractures and forced her to have reconstructive surgery to her uterus.

The jury returned the verdict against the Crown Heights-based United Lubavitcher Yeshiva, which owned the school bus, and driver Shneur Brownstein following a two-week trial.

On February 15, 2017, the plaintiff, who is identified in court papers as K.C.C., was crossing Nostrand Avenue near St. John’s Place when Brownstein made right turn onto Nostrand Avenue from a side street and plowed into the girl, court records show.

Fayemi urges FG to ban imported ‘Aso-Oke’ fabric

The wife of Ekiti State governor, Bisi Fayemi, has urged the Federal Government to ban imported ‘Aso-Oke’ fabric and revive the nation’s textile industry to boost sustainable economic growth.

‘Aso Oke’ is a hand-woven cloth created by the Yoruba people, which means “top cloth” in the English language, denoting cloth of high status.

However, Fayemi made the call to ban the importation of Aso Oke fabric during the 2019 Africa Fashion Week Nigeria (AFWN) on Saturday in Lagos.

“I will be a hypocrite to say that we should ban all fabrics because I do wear imported fabrics every now and then.

Ajebo who revealed he was present throughout the birth process, described their bundle of joy as the best Christmas gift they could ask for. Ajebo also disclosed that their baby girl has been christened Zikora Shefa Ngozi Erem.

LASU set to get first hostel after 36 years

Students and staff of the Lagos State University (LASU) are about to witness the construction of an 8,272 unit of hostels for the first time in thirty-six years.

This move is the first of its kind since the creation of the institution in the Ojo area of Lagos state.

Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has signed a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) agreement with six private property developers to deliver the project in the next 18 months, according to a statement issued on Saturday by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Gboyega Akosile.

The deal which will lead to the construction of six blocks of Hall of Residence was wrapped under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) policy of the State.

I met boy who abducted and defiled me on Facebook – 15-year-old girl

The police in Lagos State have arrested a 17-year-old boy, identified simply as Ojo, for the alleged abduction and defilement of a 15-year-old girl.

Ojo reportedly picked the girl, Bola (not real name) from her parents’ home in Ikeja, Lagos and took her to his father’s residence, where they spent the night together.

City Round learnt that the next day, Ojo and Bola checked into a hotel and spent over a week before the girl was found and Ojo arrested by the police.

After much pleading by his family, the boy wrote an undertaking that he would stay away from the girl, but returned to her about two months later and took her away for days.

18 inmates killed in gang violence at Honduras prison

At least 18 inmates were killed and 16 injured in an outbreak of gang violence at a prison in Honduras on Friday.

The fight at a prison in the northern port city of Tela was one of the worst recent outbreaks in the country.

It follows a wave of prison violence in the country, where prisons are notoriously overcrowded.

The government had declared a state of emergency in the prison system on Wednesday, transferring control to security forces. A military official told Reuters that they had not formally taken control of the prison in Tela before the violence erupted.

Groundbreaking model, Mama Cax dies at 30

Mama Cax, a groundbreaking model and activist, has died at the age of 30.

The Haitian-American model, whose full name was Cacsmy Brutus, died on Monday after falling ill on a trip to London, her family wrote in an Instagram post.

Cax had lost her leg to lung and bone cancer as a teenager, and was a powerful advocate for women of colour and disabled women in fashion.

"To say that Cax was a fighter would be an understatement," her family's statement said.

"As a cancer survivor, she had grown accustomed to taking on life's several challenges head on and successfully. It is with that same grit... that she fought her last days on earth," the statement said.

Police arrest farm labourer who hacked boss to death

The Kwara State Police Command has arrested a farm worker simply identified as Waheed for allegedly hacking his 65-year-old master, Ibrahim Ajayi-Allah, to death on his farm in Oke-Oyi in the Ilorin East Local Government Area of Kwara State.

Ajayi-Allah, a former staff member of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation at a depot in Oke-Oyi, was reportedly murdered on Friday, December 13, 2019.

The suspect, who was described as a middle-aged man and a worker on the farm of the deceased was said to have allegedly killed his boss after they had lunch together.

Man climbs mast in Taraba, threatens suicide and not to get down excepts he sees TB Joshua who is in Lagos

A yet to be identified man has threatened to commit suicide by climbing a telecommunications mast.

The incident occurred on Friday in Jalingo, the Taraba State capital in the north-eastern part of the country.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was seen approaching the mast with chains around his waist without knowing that he had the intention of climbing the mast.

Speaking to Channels Television, two persons – Mohammed Aminu and Suleiman Musa – explained that they suddenly discovered that the man was already at the peak of the mast.

Former spokesperson of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Dr. Doyin Okupe has advised the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to change its name if it intends to win future general elections in the country.

19-year old arrested for $1m cryptocurrency fraud after hacking 75 phones

A 19-year old man has been indicted for identity theft as part of an alleged $1m cryptocurrency heist affecting at least 75 victims in the United States.

A news release published on Dec. 18 by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance alleged that Yousef Selassie, 19, conducted a complex “SIM-swapping” scheme targeting residents across 20 different states.

SIM-swapping, also known as a port-out scam involves the theft of a victim’s cell phone number in order to hijack their online financial and social media accounts by intercepting the automated messages or phone calls used for two-factor authentication security measures.

Horror in Ibadan as motorcyclist r.a.p.e.s mom, beheads her five-year-old son

The Oyo State Police Command on Friday paraded a commercial motorcyclist, Gbenga Oduola, for allegedly beheading a five-year-old boy after reportedly raping his mother.

Oduola was among the 20 suspects paraded at the police headquarters in Eleyele, Ibadan, by the Commissioner of Police, Shina Olukolu.

The CP said the beheaded boy, Opeyemi Fadeyi, and his mother, Bosede Jimoh, 34, got into the hook when they boarded Oduola’s motorcycle at Oja Oba, Igbo Ora in the Ibarapa Local Government Area of the state, on Sunday, December 8, 2019.

Don’t borrow to celebrate Christmas, Toriola warns

Actress and new mother, Wunmi Toriola, has advised celebrities in the country not to put themselves into debt in the name of celebrating Christmas.

In a chat with Saturday Beats, Toriola said, “Sometimes, celebrities are pressured by fans to look good but one can still look good without breaking the bank. I always look good without trying to break the bank or even borrow. There should be a limit to everything. You can still look good in whatever you have. Nine-year-old pupil drowns in Cross River

A nine-year-old primary school pupil in Calabar, Cross River State, simply named Christian, has drowned in a swampy river close to Ibesikpo Street by Ambo Street in Calabar South.

Until Thursday morning when the tragedy occurred, Christian lived with his aunt on Ambo Street.

The boy drowned when he was allegedly sent to fetch water from the river in company with some boys who were said to have taken a dip.

Eyewitnesses said after the boys jumped into the river to bathe and later came out, Christian did not as the river swept him away.

Student, 17, is jailed for 16 years for urging her boyfriend to prove his love by killing his ex-girlfriend

A college student who urged her besotted boyfriend to murder his ex-girlfriend during a macabre plot 'to prove himself' was jailed today for 16 years.

Sarah Mohamed, 17, loitered outside the victim's home in Openshaw, Manchester for two hours while she waited for her boyfriend, Rhett Carty-Shaw, also 17, to kill the mother of his child.

She sent more than 50 text messages to encourage him to carry out the brutal attack in May earlier this year including one that read: 'Why you taking so long? Hurry up and do it.'

Yesterday, the pair were both jailed for 16 years.

Nigerian woman jailed in UK over £114K benefits fraud

A Nigerian woman, Olusola Owoeye has been jailed for two years in the UK for falsely claiming over £114,000 after saying she was homeless while renting out her own house.

Forty-nine year-old Owoeye, a mother of three, bought her own home before claiming she had been made homeless and was then given a flat by her local council, a court heard.

She then rented out her original property – which she had purchased with a fraudulent mortgage – charging tenants up to £820 a month.

Owoeye is thought to be the first person in London to be convicted of fraud after receiving payments while under ‘no recourse to public funds’ (NRPF) immigration status. She pocketed more than £114,000 over five years.

Eleven Nigerian governors on today stormed the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals in Lekki, Lagos to have on the spot assessment of the massive project.

The governors are Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Mallam Nasir El-Rufai (Kaduna), AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq (Kwara), Prince Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Godwin Obaseki (Edo), Dr. Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Babagana Zulum (Borno), Simon Lalong (Plateau) and Bala Muhammed (Bauchi), while the governor of Cross Rivers State, Benedict Ayade was represented by his deputy, Ivara Esu.

They were led on the visit by the Chairman, Nigerian Governors Forum (NGF), Dr. Fayemi, who described the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals as a pride  to Nigeria and Africa.

Yahoo boy who impersonates CBN governor arrested

An internet fraudster, Onyebuchi Nwalozie Julius, is currently cooling off in one of the detention facilities of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, for impersonating the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Dr. Godwin Emefiele.

Onyebuchi, a native of Ngor-Okpala, Imo State, who said he is into Estate Management, confessed via verbal and written statements that he posed as the CBN Governor, Emefiele with email account: to defraud his victims.

He said he defrauded one Mr. Omar Es Sh Deeb, an Arab National, whom he said made payments to him through Western Union.

Pakistan earthquake: Scary tremor shakes buildings across Indian subcontinent

A powerful earthquake with an estimated magnitude of 6.4 has shaken buildings in Pakistan, Afghanistan and northern parts of India.

The tremor was felt in cities including Delhi, Lahore, Islamabad and Kabul, and caused objects to fall off walls and shelves.

Residents rushed out of their homes and began praying in the street.

EFCC begins auction of 244 forfeited vehicles

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has commenced processes involved in the auctioning of 244 vehicles forfeited to the Nigerian Government by illegal oil dealers.

The exercise was flagged-off on Thursday, December 19th by the commission’s secretary, Ola Olukoyede, together with a team of senior officers of the anti-graft agency.

The initial auctioning processes took off at the premises of the Police Officers Wives Association open ground in the old Government Reservation Area, Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The processes involved allocation of bidding slots to registered auctioneers. Representatives of all shortlisted auctioneers were present to pick slots from an open container publicly displayed at the POWA’s open ground.

Arsenal announce Mikel Arteta as new head coach

Arsenal have appointed Mikel Arteta as their new head coach with a contract that runs until 2023.

The Spaniard takes over from former manager Unai Emery, who was sacked at the end of November having not won a home game since October 6. Arteta leaves his role as Pep Guardiola’s assistant manager at Manchester City.

In a statement the former Arsenal and Everton midfielder said that his aim with the club is to win trophies, but indicated that the process of being competitive again at the top level will take time.

“This is a huge honour. Arsenal is one of the biggest clubs in the world,” Arteta said.

Woman crashes wedding to tell groom 'I love you' before slapping bride in face

A jealous woman was caught on camera crashing a wedding and trying to attack the bride in front of shocked guests.

The couple were celebrating their wedding ceremony with friends and family when a woman burst into the ballroom screaming hysterically.

At least three men can be seen rushing to stop her but the woman managed to wriggle out of their arms.

She screams out loud and shouts to the groom: "Richard you cannot get married. I love you, you cannot marry."
