British Airways boss urges UK to end 14-day quarantine

New British Airways chief executive Sean Doyle has urged the UK government to end the quarantining of passengers arriving from abroad amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“We need to get the economy moving again and this just isn’t possible when you’re asking people to quarantine for 14 days,” Doyle told an online aviation conference, a week after he replaced Alex Cruz as the CEO of British Airways.

“If we look abroad to our near neighbours, we see that business travel and indeed tourism is being prioritised by some countries,” Doyle added.

 Addressing the same event, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said the government was looking at introducing a virus test alongside a shortened quarantine period.

Buhari sacks Nigerian Copyright Commission chairman, Jaja

President Buhari has sacked the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Dr Tony Jaja.

This is contained in a notice shared with journalists by the spokesperson for the Attorney-General of the Federation, Dr Umar Gwandu, on Monday.

The document which was signed by the Solicitor-General of the Federation and Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Justice, Mr Dayo Apata (SAN), was dated October 15, 2020.

Titled, ‘Notice of your removal as Chairman, Governing Board of the Nigerian’, the notice referred to an earlier letter dated September 28, 2020 which was said to have conveyed to Jaja the approval of the President for his sacking.

#EndSARS: Lagos orders closure of schools over protests

The Lagos State Government has ordered the closure of public and private schools in the state indefinitely.

This was announced in a press statement by the state’s Head of Public Affairs, Ministry of Education, Kayode Abayomi.

 The statement was titled, ‘Lagos directs students to stay at home’.

It quoted the Commissioner for Education, Mrs Folasade Adefisayo, as saying that the schools were shut down over “tension generated by the anti-SARS protests.”

Muslim doctor denied German citizenship for refusing to shake woman's hand at final stage

A Muslim doctor has been denied German citizenship after refusing to shake a woman's hand when she gave him his certificate.

The 39-year-old Lebanese national was on the brink of becoming a German after living in the country for 13 years, completing his medical studies and passing a citizenship test with the highest possible mark. 

But he failed at the final hurdle after refusing to shake the hand of the female official at the ceremony in 2015, leading state authorities to deny him citizenship. 

Five years later, a court has backed their decision - saying the man's 'fundamentalist' views were at odds with his integration into German society.

After Wizkid blasted Reekado Banks, the singer has now unfollowed him on Instagram in a form of protest.

Recall Wizkid had blasted his colleague for announcing a release of their collabo in the midst of the #ENDSARS protests.

Reekado had tweeted about the song and tagged wizkid before the singer asked him to delete it and called him a fool.

“Delete this dude ! Can’t believe you’re even doing this at a time like this. Old song ! #endsars fool!”, wizkid replied to being tag on the post.

Hoodlums attack, injure RRS operatives in Lagos [Video]

Hoodlums disguising as #ENDSARS protesters have attacked operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad (RRS), injuring about 14.

The attack occurred today at Ebute Meta while the operatives were being moved to relieve their colleagues who have been on duty since Sunday.

Armed with sticks and stones the hoodlums in their hundreds barricaded the RRS truck, pelting the operatives with stones.

It was gathered they overpowered the two armed policemen escorting the truck, descended on the officers, and left them with varying degrees of injuries.

How SARS operatives extorted Oyo Deputy Governor TWICE

Rauf Olaniyan, the deputy governor of Oyo State, has revealed how some operatives of the recently proscribed Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) extorted money from him in various currencies including naira, dollars and pounds in Lagos.

Mr Olaniyan had last week declared his support for EndSARS protesters.

The deputy governor, while addressing the protesters last week, said that he was a victim of police brutality twice.

Mr Olaniyan, who spoke at the weekend, recounted how the special unit of the police collected money from him without being found guilty of any offence.

EFCC confirms attacks on website

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed that there were attempts to breach its website.

Anonymous, a legion of hackers, had claimed responsibility for hitting the agency’s internet platform.

The group also tempered with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) website and threatened to target more.

The anonymous group say their actions are in support of the EndSARS protests in the country.

#EndSARS: Police confirm Edo station attack, says protesters carted away arms

The Nigerian Police have confirmed the attack on its Ugbekun Police Station, Oba Market Police Station, and Idogbo Police Post in Edo State.

The force in a statement on its Twitter page disclosed that the extent of damage cannot be estimated at the moment, however, they confirmed protesters carted away arms and ammunition from the armory.

The police also disclosed that suspects in custody were freed before certain facilities were set ablaze.

The police also said they have swung into action to bring the situation under control, protect lives of innocent citizens, and prevent further attacks on any other critical infrastructure in the state.

Man shoots off p.e.n.i.s with own weapon while tucking it in

A gun lover shot off his p.e.n.i.s with his own weapon while tucking it into his waistband.

The man is said to be recovering after the gruesome injury caused by the bullet tearing through his manhood in the Portland town of Jamaica.

Local paper The Star reports he had accidentally shot himself while attempting to return the legal gun to the waistband off his trousers on Tuesday.

The man had to undergo emergency surgery at the Kingston Public Hospital.

Sanwo-Olu inaugurates seven-member Judicial Panel into SARS brutality

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday inaugurated a 7-member Judicial Panel of Inquiry and Restitution into SARS Abuses.

Members of the panel were sworn-in on Monday at the State House, Marina, Lagos.

The panel is to investigate cases of brutality and human rights violations committed by operatives of the dissolved Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, in the State.

The panel, which is headed by retired Justice Doris Okuwobi, will sit for six months and is mandated to thoroughly investigate all verifiable claims of abuses and fatalities arising from SARS engagement in the State, with the objective to bring erring officers to justice and get compensation for the victims.

Edo declares 24-hour curfew after jailbreak

The Edo State Government has imposed a 24-hour curfew across the state until further notice.

The curfew is to take effect from 4pm, October 19, 2020.

This was contained in a press statement signed by the Secretary to the State Government, Osarodion Ogie, on Monday.

The statement read in part, “This decision has become necessary because of the very disturbing incidents of vandalism and attacks on private individuals and institutions by hoodlums in the guise of #ENDSARS protesters.

EndSARS: Business activities, movement grounded in Ibadan

Business activities, vehicular and human movement in Ibadan were on Monday paralysed as the youth continued with the EndSARS protest.

Reports from news correspondents across the city revealed that major roads, including link roads, were blocked as early as 5 a.m.

With the blockade, many road users, who had set out early to beat the protest were caught up in traffic jam, resulting in many workers getting to their offices late.

The youths were seen carrying placards with different anti-SARS inscriptions.

35 year-old mum ‘hammers three-year-old daughter to death

A mum, accused of killing her own three-year-old daughter by attacking her with a hammer, is in a critical condition in hospital after trying to take her own life.

Natalia Petunina is said to have attacked little Lisa after taking an overdose of antidepressants while they were alone at their apartment in the town of Kirovgrad, Russia on Friday.

The child was found lying in a pool of blood by her father, Vladimir, minutes after her horrific death, the local prosecutors office said.

The shocked man, who came home from work to have lunch, immediately called an ambulance.

Nigerian man reveals how he was shot by police two months after his wedding

In the midst of the #ENDSARS protest, a Nigerian man whose name is yet to be known has revealed that he was shot by Nigeria Police two months after his wedding ceremony.

The man who has been amputated because of the incident showed his wound and said that he was shot by the police for no reason exactly two months after his wedding.

Other protestors couldn’t stop but express their pains and grievances after the man narrated his story.

However, the reason as to why he was shot was not revealed.

YouTuber throws babies in bin and left them to die moments after giving birth to them

A YouTube make-up artist has been found guilty of killing her two newborn babies by throwing them in a rubbish bin and leaving them to die.

Alyssa Dayvault, 31, hid the two pregnancies and gave birth to her son and daughter in secret just 13 months apart in 2017 and 2018.

Prosecutors said both babies were alive after birth, but they were tossed into a bin just moments later in each case.

When police asked why she threw the babies away, she told them her boyfriend didn't want children and she was scared how her mom would react, it was reported.

Amputee dancer who stunned world with London 2012 Paralympic Games routine dies

A double amputee dancer who performed a stunning routine at the London 2012 Paralympic Games opening ceremony has died age 56.

David Toole, who was last year made an OBE for services to dance and to people with disabilities, was confirmed by the Leeds-based Slung Low theatre company.

He died at the age of 56 in hospital in the city earlier this week.

Jenny Sealey, artistic co-director of the London 2012 Paralympics opening ceremony, said: "Dave was so many things, our darling, wonderful, opinionated, glorious, silly, funny, kind, sexy, loving and wise friend.

Man rescued from committing suicide on Ikoyi Link Bridge

A yet-be-identified man has been saved from committing suicide around the Ikoyo link bridge in Lagos.

After emergency responders got wind of the information, a team was reportedly deployed in the area to stop him.

The Director-General of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, who confirmed the incident, said the operation was successful.

He noted that the victim hails from Anambra State, adding that he had been handed over to experts for counseling.

Soldiers managing #ENDSARS situation in Abuja protests...

Soldiers have been deployed to the streets of Abuja to arrest the escalating #ENDSARS protests.

The protests in Abuja have in some cases have got out of hand with suspected hoodlums attacking protesters as well as pro-SARS groups.

The situation has often led to clashes that leave several persons injured with vehicles and other property damaged.

There have been reports that a protester, who was stabbed by one of such hoodlums, died in a hospital.

#ENDSARS protesters have blocked the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway at Iyana Ipaja and before Ikeja Along bus stop.

Vehicles cannot move. 

BRT buses coming from Abule Egba are parked at Dopemu bus stop unable to proceed further.

Hundreds of commuters are stranded and many have started trekking to their destinations.

One of the protesters freed by thugs this monring at a Benin prison has spoken. He said he has been in cell for over two years and he is glad to be out. 

He thanked Nigerian youths saying they are too much.

#EndSARS: Military should remain in barracks till protests end, CSOs tell Federal Government

On the heels of the on-going nationwide protests, a coalition of civil society organizations has called on the Federal Government to prevail on the Nigerian Army to suspend its planned ‘Operation Crocodile Smile VI’. 

This is even as another coalition of labour and civil society groups also cautioned the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai against facing the International Criminal Court, ICC, should any #EndSARS protester be killed by the military.

Speaking against the backdrop of the protests in Abuja, the over 30 CSOs, including Centre for Democracy and Development, CDD, Enough is Enough and Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Centre, CISLAC, condemned the military exercise as unacceptable, alleging it was designed to crush the civil protests. 

Thugs hijack ENDSARS protest in Benin, set prisoners free

Some thugs who have hijacked the ENDSARS protests in Benin city, Edo state have set some prisoners free. 

In a video currently making the rounds, prisoners were seen jumping the very high fence of the prison premises.

#EndSARS protesters have blocked the Kuje road leading to the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua expressway.

The protesters also blocked the Airport road, preventing motorists from the right of way.

Several people have been prevented from going to their place work.

Commercial vehicles going to the city center could not go through.

South African health minister tests positive for Covid-19

South Africa’s health minister says that he and his wife have tested positive for Covid- 19.

Zweli Mkhize was tested after feeling tired and with a loss of appetite.

He is now self- isolating and says he’s optimistic that they will both recover fully.

Mr Mkhize is the fifth minister to catch the virus in South Africa.

He urged citizens to continue to take health precautions to reduce the risk of a second wave.

The country is the worst affected in Africa and has just passed a total of 700,000 cases of infection.

#EndSARS protesters have shut the Lagos State Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja. 

They shut the gate preventing workers from entering the premises. 

The protesters locked all the entrances to the secretariat and turned back motorists and pedestrians from coming out and going into the premises. 

Commuters were seen stranded at bus stops due to few commercial buses on the road. 

Some of the areas where the protesters have occupied include; Awolowo Road, Ikeja, Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ikorodu Road, LASU-Iba Road by Isheri-Roundabout, Egbe-Idimu Local Council Development Area, LCDA.

Catholic Bishops back youths, reiterate restructuring of Nigeria

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has backed the ongoing nationwide protests by Nigerians, especially the youths, who are calling for an end to police brutality and extra-judicial killings in the country.

The CBCN President and Archbishop of Benin-City, Most Rev Augustine Obiora Akubeze, said this in a statement signed by the National Director of Communications, Padre Mike Umoh.

The CBCN President noted that the widespread protest calling for an end to SARS is not only remarkable but commendable, more so that it is being led by the Nigerian youths.

“It is an indication that the youths are tired of suffering from the brutality and injustices perpetrated by SARS operatives and Nigeria Police Force in general. The youths are therefore simply calling for justice not just for themselves, but for the entire nation so that Nigeria can have peace,” Akubeze said.

NIS to go after foreigners who refuse to be registered

The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has said it would go after migrants who refuse to get themselves registered in its ongoing electronic re-registration exercise.

It vowed to evoke the immigration laws on any foreign national arrested for refusing to be captured at the end of the exercise.

President Mohammadu Buhari had, in July 2019, declared six months amnesty to migrants who had stayed in Nigeria beyond 90 days without resident permit.

The Comptroller in charge of the Lagos State Command of the Service, Ahmed Aliyu, while reiterating the stance of the service on the e-registration exercise disclosed that until September 2020, the command had successfully registered over 22,000 migrants in the state.

Cardi B has quit her Twitter account after growing sick of people trolling her for taking back Offset.

The Bodak Yellow rapper's account @iamcardib has gone down, and she explained on an Instagram live that she's "tired of people" trying to tell her what to do and who to be with.

Cardi, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, filed for divorce from Offset back in September but announced earlier this month that they have reunited.

They have been married since 2017 and share two-year-old daughter Kulture.

Grieving family unable to pay for burial 'left with body on floor' as coffin confiscated

A grieving family who were unable to pay for their young son's burial were "left with his body on the floor" after funeral directors allegedly confiscated the coffin.

They couldn't afford the £120 bill - and the teenager's body was reportedly left in a garage where the wake was taking place, still surrounded by flowers and incense candles.

The funeral only went ahead after mourners took to social media to ask for financial donations towards the burial.

The incident happened in the town of Tehuacan in the Mexican state of Puebla.

30-year-old man kills himself for failing to raise loan payment

A 30-year-old man from Navakholo in Kakamega County, Kenya committed suicide on Saturday over financial stress, his family claims.

Solomon Ayindi Kataka’s body was found hanging from a rope tied to the roof of his house in Eshambitsi Village.

The deceased’s family told K24 Digital that Kataka, a bicycle repairer, had recently borrowed Ksh13,000 from a local microfinance bank, and the lender was on his case to settle the loan.

The deceased’s mother, Alice Omwenje Kataka, said her son had paid a part of the loan, and that he was being harassed by the microfinance bank to offset the balance.

Nigeria records 133 new coronavirus cases, total now 61,440

Nigeria recorded two new deaths from the coronavirus on Sunday, according to official figures.

A total of 1,125 deaths related to the virus have now been recorded thus far in Africa’s most populous country.

Nigeria has continued to record daily cases below 300 for more than two months with 133 infections reported Sunday, according to the country’s infectious disease outfit, NCDC.

This brings the total number of infections in the country to 61,440.

Policeman shot dead ‘by fellow officer’ while rescuing suspect

A middle-aged policeman from Busia County, Kenya was shot dead on Friday night  by his fellow cop in unclear circumstances.

Police Constable Francis Kalewa was shot in the right side of his back, and the bullet exited through the chest.

The incident happened at Bukesa Village in Burumba Location, Busia County a few minutes to 10pm.

At 9:40pm, village elder Pamela Atieno had reported to a local police station that residents were on the verge of lynching a 26-year-old man accused of stealing motorcycle parts from boda boda operators in the neighbourhood.

Pasuma booed & dragged out of #EndSARS protest in Alausa

Fuji musician, Wasiu Alabi Pasuma was not lucky yesterday with ENDSARS protesters at Alausha Ikeja.

The singer had come to join the protest by lending his voice towards the movement but he was allegedly boooed away.

WHY: We learnt protesters are not happy he is just lending hsi own voice now, after two weeks of youths marching out and solely demanding for an END in SARS.

#EndSARS: IGP reveals criteria used in selecting SWAT team

The Inspector General of Police, IGP M.A Adamu, has reaffirmed that the new Police Tactical Team, SWAT, launched in lieu of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) will operate within very high professional and ethical standards, rule of law and dictates of best international policing practices.

Highlighting the criteria included in the selection of the new team personnel, he noted that the officers screened for the training are young, smart and energetic officers who have acquired not less than seven (7) years working experience with clean service records – no pending disciplinary matters, no record of violation of rights of citizens or misuse of firearms – and are physically fit to withstand the rigour of SWAT Training and Operations.

Pastor strips n.a.k.e.d, attempts suicide after being caught with stolen cows

Police in Lurambi, Kakamega County, Kenya have arrested a 35-year-old preacher accused of stealing his neighbour’s two cows.

Joash Wanyonyi, a resident of Sichirayi Village in Shieywe Location, was on Friday, October 16, caught with the stolen cows inside a forest near his home.

Sichirayi residents, led by Village Elder Samwel Luvembe, said Wanyonyi stripped naked and tied a rope to a tree, while saying he wanted to commit suicide because he had broken one of the Ten Biblical Commandments, which frowns upon stealing.

Wanyonyi said he stole the cows so that he could take them as dowry to his wife’s home.

Oritsefemi and wife step out for #Endsars protest after reconciliation [photo]

They are back! Oritsefemi and his wife Nabila Fash are back together. The couple were seen together in a cool atmosphere during the ENDSARS protest in Lekki.

Excited that they are back and wanting people to know, the singer shared a photo of them and wrote;
