Eniola Aluko becomes Aston Villa Women's sporting director

Former England Women striker Eniola Aluko has given a special thanks to John Terry after being named sporting director of Aston Villa Women.

Aluko, 32, recently announced her retirement from playing, but is back working in football again after becoming Villa Women's first-ever sporting director.

The former player, who earned 102 caps for England over the course of her career said: 'I'm very excited to transition into a sporting director role.

'I feel it's something that I'm ready for at this point in my career. I've always been passionate about the women's game, its development and setting cultures that drive excellence.

Bauchi State Governor Mohammed Bala has reacted to the Supreme Court’s judgement which affirmed his victory in the 2019 governorship election.

Speaking to newsmen in Bauchi, Bala disclosed that he had fears of being sacked just like Emeka Ihedioha by the apex court. He added that his fear was heightened by the confidence his opponents showed before the court judgement.

Bala said; “The Imo incident is one of such incidents that is a manifestation of a judicial process. It was a very painful outcome for me as a PDP member and as a friend to the former governor who was affected”.

Burundi leader to get $530,000 and luxury villa

Burundi's parliament has voted to pay $530,000 (£400,000) to President Pierre Nkurunziza and provide him with a luxury villa when he leaves office.

The draft law, which has been presented to the cabinet for approval, also awards him a lifetime salary.

It also proposes that Mr Nkurunziza be elevated to the title of "supreme leader" when he steps down in May.

Burundi was plunged into a constitutional crisis in 2015 when he successfully ran for a third term.

The move sparked violent protests by opposition supporters which morphed into reprisal attacks.

Court sentences 2 to life imprisonment for kidnapping senator’s wife

A High Court sitting in Port Harcourt has sentenced Abel Okoro and Vincent Wilson, for kidnapping the wife of Senator George Thompson-Sekibo and two of her female friends.

Abel Okoro and Vincent Wilson were sentenced to life imprisonment without an option of fine.

The presiding judge, Justice E. Thompson, agreed with the position of the prosecution counsel that the confessional statements by the defendants, which revealed how they conspired to commit the crime, were made voluntarily and not by any form of inducement.

Justice Thompson ruled that the court found the accused guilty of counts three and four, which borders on conspiracy, attempted kidnap and kidnap of Princess Asime Sekibo and Everly Awinika-Osai and thereafter sentenced the two to life imprisonment without an option of fine.

Probe of Saudi prince urged over Bezos phone hack

UN human rights experts have demanded an immediate investigation into allegations Saudi Arabia's crown prince hacked Amazon boss Jeff Bezos's phone.

They said Mohammed bin Salman should also be investigated for "continuous, direct and personal efforts to target perceived opponents".

A message from a phone number used by the prince has been implicated in a breach of Mr Bezos's data.

The kingdom's US embassy has denied the "absurd" story.

Masked gunmen ambush and kill local commander of Iran's security forces

Masked gunmen on Wednesday ambushed and killed the local commander of a paramilitary security force in southwest Iran, an associate of Iran's top general recently killed in an American drone strike in Baghdad.

The slain commander, Abdolhossein Mojaddami, headed the Basij forces, a paramilitary wing of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) used for internal security and other tasks, in the town of Darkhoein.

He was shot in front of his home in the town in the country's oil-rich Khuzestan province, the official IRNA news agency reported.

20-year old caught stealing ladies used pants and bras confesses he sells them to ritualists

P.M.Express reports that Police operatives from Olosun Division, Lagos, led by the Divisional Police Officer, SP Ayodele Arogbo, have arrested a 20-year old man, who specialized in stealing female pants and bras for sale for money ritual purposes.

The suspect, Ugochukwu Okoye, was caught at 22 Olanibi Street, Mushin area of Lagos, while stealing the items.

He was arrested and taken to the Police Station for interrogation.

The Police alleged that he confessed that he usually picks up female under wears, which he sells to undisclosed persons now at large.

Video of Chinese employees crawling on their hands and feet spark outrage online

A somewhat bizarre video made its rounds on Chinese social media this week, showing Chinese employees crawling on their hands and feet during an official event.

The video, that was recorded during a Chinese New Year annual company dinner, was first posted by a popular Weibo blogger (@社畜茶水间) on January 18.

The 15-second clip shows how both men and women dressed in formal attire crawl on the ground while loudly repeating: “I had promised, I take responsibility”

The scene was filmed by one of the people attending the annual dinner.

Single mother in Malaysia charged with murder of baby

A Malaysian single mother has been charged in the Johor Baru magistrate's court with murdering her two-year-old daughter.

Nurul Shamira Mazlan, 22, is accused of intentionally causing the death of her only child, Nur Shahana Abdus Quddus, who died at Sultan Ismail Hospital on Jan 13.

She nodded after the charge was read out to her before magistrate Rashidah Baharom yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, Nurul Shamira, who is unemployed, committed the offence between Jan 5 and Jan 11 at an apartment in Taman Kempas Indah.

Newly appointed Special Adviser to Ogun Governor admits forging certificate

Newly appointed Special Adviser on Education to Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, Joseph Odemuyiwa, has confirmed stories accusing him of certificate forgery, according to SaharaReporters.
On Monday, the online news medium had published a story exposing how Odemuyiwa forged a letter of promotion to become associate professor when he left Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, to Kwara State University.
Apart from being sent packing from KWASU, the Ogun governor appointee was asked to refund all payment made to him upon his sack from the university.

Burundi to give outgoing presidents luxury villa, cash

A luxury villa and a one-off sum equivalent to more than $500,000 that is what presidents in Burundi will receive after leaving office, according to new legislation adopted by the country's Parliament.

The move on Tuesday came months before an election scheduled for May, in which President Pierre Nkurunziza has said he will not run.

In 2015, his campaign for a third term plunged the country into violence and led to an enduring political crisis.

The new law states that at the end of the mandate, the president will receive "a luxury villa built with public funds in the location of their choice within five years, as well as a one-off allocation of one billion Burundian francs [$530,000]".

Jeff Bezos' romance became public after his phone was allegedly hacked by Saudi crown prince via whatsapp

Amazon’s owner and the recent world richest man, Jeff Bezos was reportedly “hacked” in 2018 after receiving a WhatsApp message sent from the personal account of the crown prince of Saudi Arabia.

The Guardian (UK) reported the encrypted message from the number used by Mohammed bin Salman contained a malicious file used in the phone infiltration.

Bezos claimed that forensic digital analysis revealed that his phone intrusion was triggered by an infected video file sent from the Saudi heir.

Large amounts of data were exfiltrated from Bezos’s phone within hours, according to a person familiar with the matter. There was currently no knowledge of what was taken from the phone or how it was used.

Burkina Faso declares two days of mourning after attack kills 36 civilians

Burkina Faso's government has declared two days of national mourning following an attack on two villages, in which at least 36 civilians were killed, in the latest violence to rock the country.

A "terrorist group" on Monday killed 32 civilians when they attacked and burned a market in Nagraogo village before killing four more people in Alamou village, Communications Minister Remis Fulgance Dandjinou said in a statement late on Tuesday. Three other people were wounded in the attacks in Sanmatenga province, he added.

The incidents prompted hundreds of people to flee the area and take refuge in the city of Kaya, residents told AFP.

South Korea transgender soldier to sue over dismissal

A transgender soldier in South Korea says she will sue the army after it dismissed her for violating regulations following her s3x change.

Byun Hui-soo, 22, joined the army as a man but had gender reassignment surgery last year after suffering from gender dysphoria and mental health issues.

She accused the military of "deep-rooted intolerance" of sexual minorities.

South Korea remains conservative on matters of sexual identity.

Images and clips of the oddball beast have quickly gone viral after they were posted on social media in Rajasthan, India.

At first, the oddball animal left villagers in Nimodia baffled as its freakish facial structure makes it look just like a grumpy old man.

However, they now reportedly say the unfortunate-looking creature will be “worshiped as an avatar of god.”

Landlord almost in tears after tenants trash home (photos)

A stunned landlord said he "nearly cried" when he saw what nightmare tenants had done to his house.

Daniel Needes, from Bridgend in Wales, had rented the house out for two years.

He told Wales Online that the home had been in "immaculate condition" - after it was renovated by his late father and had been kitted out with new appliances.

But Daniel said that less than two years later the tenants suddenly moved out without notice and he discovered the property had been completely trashed.

Court sentences ritualist to 15 years imprisonment

A High Court sitting in Ilorin, Kwara State, has convicted Azeez Yakubu to 15 years imprisonment for criminal conspiracy, trafficking and possession of human parts.

Also sentenced for the same crime were six others.

The crime was reportedly committed in March 2017 in Ilorin.

The suspects were found guilty of the offences including criminal conspiracy, trafficking and possession of 11 human skulls, 11 lower jawbones, a bunch of hair and 29 pieces of bones taken from various burial grounds in Ilorin.

Lagos dad who allegedly r.a.p.e.d his two under aged daughters arrested

A 40-year old man, Terry Ikechukwu Iheme, has been arrested for allegedly sleeping with his two under aged daughters in Lagos.

P.M.Express reports that the incident happened at Igbo-olomu in Agric area of Ikorodu Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect, Iheme, who was a senior driver with a company known as  Hi-Tech construction company in Lagos, was said to have had carnal knowledge of the victims before it eventually leaked.

The matter was reported to the Police at Owutu Police Division led by CSP Margaret Okonkwo, who ordered his arrest in order to be investigated for the alleged offence.

Panic as gunmen kill Imo businessman

There was panic in Imo State on Tuesday following the killing of a businessman, Ugochukwu Oguine, by yet-to-be identified gunmen.

The businessman, Punch correspondent learnt, was killed before midnight on Monday at Anara in the Isaiala Mbano Local Government Area of the state.

The incident, which happened around the Assemblies of God Church on the Okigwe/Owerri Expressway, caused panic in the community.

EFCC admits mistake in Maina’s case, apologizes to court

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) admitted that it made a mistake in a bank account linked to Faisal, son of embattled former Chairman of the defunct Pension Reform Task Team (PRTT) Abdulrasheed Maina.

Mohammed Goji, an EFCC operative who was part of the team that investigated Maina’s fraud case admitted that they did not conduct an in-depth investigation into the PRTT. He immediately apologized to the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The EFCC operative said that they made a mistake in writing two different account numbers for one bank account in Exhibit B1 being used as evidence against Faisal when questioned by Maina’s son’s lawyer, Adeola Adedipe.

22 men richer than 'all the women in Africa combined' - Fresh report

Economic inequality is widening across the world and women in particular are feeling its effects as care work remains undervalued, according to a new report by anti-poverty charity Oxfam.

The world's 22 richest men, for instance, own more wealth than all 325 million women in Africa combined, Oxfam's Time to Care report showed.

"When 22 men have more wealth than all the women in Africa combined, it's clear that our economy is just plain sexist," Danny Sriskandarajah, chief executive at Oxfam Great Britain said in conjunction with the report's publication on Monday.

EFCC after my properties ‘to annoy me’ – Saraki

A former Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has asked the Federal High Court in Lagos State to dismiss a suit filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC ) for final forfeiture of his house in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

The EFCC in December had secured an interim order for the forfeiture of the house located at 1, Abdulkadir Street, GRA, Ilorin, Kwara State, on the grounds that it was acquired with proceeds of corruption. Justice Rilwan Aikawa had ordered the interim forfeiture of the property and invited anyone with an interest in the property to show cause why it should be seized.

But in response, the two-term Kwara State Governor through his lawyer, Kehinde Ogunwumiju, described the suit as an abuse of court processes and a move to “irritate, annoy and scandalise” him.

Today makes it 135 days that a Nigerian journalist, Agba Jalingo has been away.

Mr Jalingo, the publisher of CrossRiverWatch, was arrested on August 22 over a report alleging that the governor of Cross River State, Ben Ayade, diverted N500 million belonging to the state.

He is now facing treason charges and has been behind bars ever since.

A twitter user, Henry Shield (@henryshield) has now tweeted at the official PDP page reminding them of Jalingo and assuring the party, the case will be brought up in 2023.

Commsioner of Police orders arrest of Inspector over death of Akwa Ibom woman

The commissioner of police in Akwa Ibom State, Imohimi Edgal, has ordered the “immediate” arrest of a police officer accused of causing the death of a 54-year-old woman.

The officer, Bassey Ikpe, was said to have violently dragged the victim, Deborah Nkpenie, thereby causing her head to hit the iron rail of a tricycle, where she was seated.

The woman died immediately, witnesses said.

The incident happened at the police headquarters, Uyo, on Thursday, around 12 p.m.

Pregnant woman, two doctors who diagnosed her die of Lassa fever in Kano as 292 are on watch list

The Kano State government has confirmed the outbreak of Lassa fever in the state, which has so far claimed the lives of three persons.

Addressing journalists today, the state commissioner of health, Aminu Tsanyawa, said a pregnant woman, and two medical doctors who diagnosed her have died of the fever.

According to him, the ministry currently has a total of 292 persons who had contact with the said victims on a watch list. This, it said, would help to quickly quarantine anyone who shows any symptoms of the disease, to avoid further spread.

The influencer took to social media to share a photo of her in a black body suit which deliberately left her lady parts showing with hairs around it.

Captioning the photo, she spoke about how women get body shamed if they leave the hair on other regions of their body to grow aside their head and eyes. She then talked about how men walk around with hair all over their body in dignity with no one saying a word.

Argentine football legend Diego Maradona met Tuesday in Caracas with Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who thanked the icon for his “unconditional support,” as the leader was set to begin three days of meetings at the leftist Sao Paulo Forum.

Man executed by 8-year old boko haram insurgent identified as a student of University of Maiduguri

An hostage executed by an 8-year old boko haram insurgent as been identified as a Mr. Ropvil Daciya Dalep.

Daciya, 22, has been identified as a student of Biology Education in University of Maiduguri and was abducted on Thursday January 9, 2020 near the Borno State capital.

Kidnapped along with him is a 20-year old Zoology student of the same University, Miss Lilian Daniel Gyang and one other.

On Tuesday, the distressing video of Mr. Daciya’s execution was shared online by SITE Intelligence Group, an organization that tracks the activities of terrorists around the world.
