R Kelly’s brother has claimed the rap star tried to bribe him with cars, a record deal, and tens of thousands of pounds to take the fall for being involved in a s.e.x tape with an underage girl.
Carey Kelly, the 49-year-old younger brother of disgraced singer R Kelly, 52, makes the shocking claims in the new documentary series: Surviving R Kelly Part II: The Reckoning.
In the course of the documentary, Carey comments on the string of serious crimes that R Kelly has been accused of (crimes that the I Believe I Can Fly singer has denied) – and appears to throw a fresh accusation at his brother: bribery.
Carey has hit out at his brother over a s.e.x tape that was filmed in 2002 allegedly showing R Kelly engaging in sexual relations with a woman who was alleged to be under age.
R Kelly was acquitted following a trial in 2008, however, as the jury could not agree if the woman featured in the video was underage.
But Carey has now alleged that his brother tried to convince him to take the fall for the video – by lying that it was he having sex in the video, and not the singer.
“He was asking me, ‘Man, you need to say that was you.’ Commit a crime, pretty much, to say that was me on the tape with a minor,” he says in the documentary series.
“Perjure myself in a court of law and risk jail time for some stuff that didn’t have anything to do with me,” Carey continues.
He went on to suggest R Kelly offered him bribes, saying: “’You need to say this and then I will buy you a car. I’ll give you a record deal. You’ll get $50,000’.”
Care notes: “I said ‘Man, let me tell you something, man. You ain’t got enough money for me to say that’s me. Because it ain’t worth me selling my soul’.”
R Kelly is currently in prison facing multiple charges including sexual assault and sex trafficking after a number of women came forth to accuse the singer of abusing them.
