Adamawa NULGE Chairman abducted from his home

The Adamawa State Chairman of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Alhaji Hammanjolde Gatugel, has been abducted by suspected kidnappers.

Hammanjolde Gatugel was taken away in the early hours of Saturday, at 12:50 am, from his residence in Mayo-Belwa, headquarters of the Mayo-Belwa local government area in the southern part of the state.

“The kidnappers struck about 12.50 midnight and fired shots sporadically and took the chairman away,” a neighbour said.

Mayo-Belwa has recently become known for notable residents getting kidnapped or killed.

In January, Rev Denis Bagauri of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria (LCCN) was killed in an attack at his residence in Nasarawo Gereng area of Mayo-Belwa.

Bagauri had risen to fame in the era of Murtala Nyako as Governor of the state when he, Bagauri, served as liaison officer for Christians. He similarly served under Bindow as Senior Special Assistant on Religion Matters.

Earlier, in August 2019, gunmen had killed the Adamawa South Zonal Chairman of Miyetti-Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Alhaji Saidu Kolaku.

It was a midnight raid ascribed to suspected kidnappers said to have gone for the MACBAN chairman because of how he had been exposing them and their activities to security agents in his acclaimed effort to curtail kidnapping in the southern part of the state.

The Adamawa Stats Police Command has confirmed the latest incident.
