4-year old boy mauled by dog at his friend's house

A boy has been left with severe facial injuries after being mauled by a dog at a friend's house.

His mum has demanded that the dangerous dog be put down after it bit her four-year-old son Leon in the face.

Chloe Cyples, from Stoke, is furious that Staffordshire Police are refusing to take action against the animal following the incident.

Little Leon Lawler was left covered in blood and needed surgery in hospital after the attack.

He has been left with a bite mark below his eye and part of his lip missing, reports Stoke-on-TrentLive.

The family now face an anxious wait before finding out whether Leon will need reconstruction surgery.

Leon was attacked after going to a friend's house to play in the paddling pool on Saturday afternoon.

When he needed the toilet he went indoors and was attacked by the dog in the utility room.

Mum-of-two Chloe, aged 22, said: “The next thing I knew his friend's dad was knocking on the door with my son in his arms, bleeding from the face.

“When I opened the door and saw my son with blood all over his face I was heartbroken. I was angry and shocked. I rang an ambulance straight away. I feel guilty that I wasn’t there for my boy."

Leon was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital where he was accompanied by his 26-year-old dad Jordan Lawlor. He had surgery on Sunday.

Staffordshire Police went to the Royal Stoke at 10pm on Saturday to take pictures of Leon's injuries.

Chloe added: “The police asked us what we wanted to do about the dog and whether we wanted to prosecute the owners or put the dog down. We said we want to prosecute and have the dog put down because of the injuries inflicted on my son.

“Being a mum you just want to be able to protect your child and if there is a dog like that walking about then it is not safe. They’re not doing their job. I am so upset and extremely disappointed in the police.”

Police were notified of the attack at 7.30pm on Saturday, August 1.

A police spokesman said: “The dog has been rehomed. Our inquiries are ongoing and the owner is due to be spoken to.”
