Prominent Lagos monarch, Oba Yushau Goriola Oseni, is dead

Lagos monarch, Oba Yushau Goriola Oseni, the Oniba of Ibaland, has died at the age of 77.

Palace sources said the monarch, who was kidnapped some years ago, died in a private hospital.

It was gathered that the oba died after a brief illness.

Alhaja Bamgbose Asanbe, the Iyalode of Igando, who confirmed the death of Oseni, said, LASU, Igando, Iba and some other areas would be declared no go area, as the Oro festival must hold for nine days.

President Trump mocked his presumptive 2020 rival Joe Biden Saturday morning.

“Sleepy Joe cannot bring us to greatness. He is the reason I’m here!” Trump jeered on Twitter, while re-upping an earlier tweet sharing a recent poll showing him leading Biden in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

Biden has been on the defensive since Friday after telling radio host Charlamagne that any black person who didn’t vote for him wasn’t really black.

“Well I tell you what, if you have a problem figuring out whether you’re for me or Trump, then you ain’t black,” Biden said toward the end of the interview on Charlamagne’s “The Breakfast Club.”

Osun Amotekun arrest men who specialise in stealing female panties for rituals [photos]

Two men who specialised in stealing female panties for ritual purposes in Osun State were on Saturday, May 23, arrested after they were found with five female panties.

The two men were arrested at the Kajola Ajaba community in the Ila Orangun area of the state by the newly-created security network in the state, Amotekun.

Confirming their arrest, the Director General of Amotekun Security Corps in the state, Amitolu Shittu, said his men apprehended the two suspects at Kajola Ajaba community, near Ila Orangun.

According to him, “nemesis today caught up with two young men who specialised in stealing women underwear after they had burgled a house and stolen some panties at Kajola Ajaba.

Supermodel Zara Abid among 96 killed in Pakistan plane crash

A top Pakistani model, Zara Abid is among the 96 people killed on a doomed passenger jet which crashed into a housing estate yesterday.

Zara Abid, is among those on the Pakistan International Airlines flight which plunged into homes near Karachi.

Tributes have flooded social media praising the "wonderful and hardworking" star.

Laditi died early hours of yesterday, Friday May 22nd, when he was rushed to the hospital.

He was rushed there on thursday night but gave up the following morning.

The actor is said to have been suffering from chronic back pain.

He was known for his roles in movies like Ija eleye, Aye toto, Koto Orun  and many others.

He was 51.

Tempers rose Saturday morning as agitated returnees from the UK housed in the isolation center gather in front of the hotel to protest the continued delay in their covid-19 test result.

The test were administered on the returnees last Tuesday.

As early as 7:30 am Saturday morning, returnees began to gather in their numbers, insisting that they had spent the mandatory 14 days in isolation.

El Salvador President calls for prayers in hope to end coivd-19

El Salvador President Nayib Bukele has called on citizens to pray collectively for the end of the novel coronavirus pandemic on Sunday.

Believers should join in prayer in their homes at 2 p.m. local time, the president said in a Facebook post.

Salvadorans will ask God to “heal our land and allow us to defeat the pandemic which is battering the whole world,” Bukele said.

The National Prayer Day was instituted through a presidential decree, Bukele said, but added that the prayers were “voluntary” in the predominantly Roman Catholic country.

El Salvador has confirmed 1,725 COVID-19 infections and 33 deaths so far.

6-year old boy born premature raises £19K to help buy incubator for hospital as a form of THANK YOU

A sweet six-year-old boy has raised more than £19,000 to buy an incubator for the hospital that kept him alive when he was born.

Dhillon Manku, 6, was born two months early weighing 3lb 9oz and spent a month at Kingston Hospital, London.

He became curious about incubators after his sister was born, and asked his mother, Sharn, 35, why she didn’t have to stay in a "glass box" like he did.

Sharn told her son about his premature birth and decided he wanted to raise money as a thank you to Kingston Hospital.

Imo abolishes payment of pensions to ex-governors, speakers

Gov. Hope Uzodinma of Imo has assented to a bill repealing the law that created pension allowances and gratuities for former governors, deputy governors, assembly speakers, and deputy speakers.

Signing the bill into law in Owerri on Friday, the governor noted that the erstwhile law runs contrary to the 1999 constitution as amended, which stipulates that a pensioner must have worked for at least 10 years and must be up to 45 years of age.

He regretted a situation where some of the beneficiaries of such payments also get a huge amount of money as salaries and allowances in other positions they occupied such as serving as senators or members of the House of Representatives.

No kissing the bride as Sri Lanka lifts weddings ban

Sri Lanka has lifted a ban on wedding receptions as part of an easing of coronavirus restrictions, but grooms may not kiss the bride – at least not in public.

Wealthy Sri Lankans usually hold wedding celebrations with thousands of guests, and the festivities often last for days with much eating, drinking, dancing and singing.

Under the new guidelines there should be no more than 100 guests, all of whom must stay a metre apart and wear masks, including the happy couple.

“Guests should not be allowed to kiss, hug or shake hands,” the latest health ministry rules say. “Greeting each other should be done without any touching.”

Court stops 16-year-old girl’s marriage to cleric as his 9th wife

An Ondo state family Court in Akure has quashed a forced marriage of a 16 year old Secondary School girl to an Islamic Cleric with eight wives, Alhaji Yusuf Lateef.

Lateef, who is an Ore based cleric was to make the girl who was 15 last year his ninth wife.

The three man panel led by Justice Aderemi Adegoroye ordered the return of the girl to her family for proper care and education and warned Lateef to stay away from her.

Saturday Vanguard gathered that Alhaji Lateef had approached the girl’s parents and sought her hand in marriage in 2019.

Retired Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte dies at 88

Justice Adolphus Karibi-Whyte, Retired Justice of the Supreme Court, is dead.

The retired judge died at the age of 88.

His son, Gogo confirmed his father’s death saying he died in Port Harcourt.

The late justice left behind four boys and three girls.

Nigeria records 245 new cases of coronavirus

There is no respite for Nigeria, as the nation ramped up 245 new Coronavirus infections on Friday.

The overall total is now 7,261.

Lagos, the epicentre of the virus took the lead again with 131 new cases.

Jigawa came next with 16 fresh infections, in the figures released by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, on Friday.

Ogun recorded 13 new Coronavirus cases and Borno 12.

The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a housewife, who allegedly killed her husband, Mr. Uzougbo Iwebunor, on Friday May 15, in Issele-Uku, Aniocha North LGA of Delta.

Ex-President Jonathan donates 500 bags of rice to Ebonyi

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has donated 500 bags of 5-kilogram rice to the Ebonyi government as palliatives to cushion the effects of covid -19 on its people.

Dr. Kenneth Ugbala, Secretary to the State Government (SSG), disclosed this after the State Executive Council meeting today.

The SSG said that Jonathan made the donation in the company of his wife, Patience.

Stephanie Pudlowski, 38, was arrested on May 15 after police say audio and video taken in the home they shared in Oneida County showed she had a s3xual relationship with the boy.

She has since been charged with s3xual assault of a child placed in substitute care, s3xual intercourse with a child age 16 or older and causing mental harm to a child, NewsWatch12 reports.

Pudlowski is said to have met the boy while teaching at James Williams Middle School. Police say no s3xual contact occurred on district property.

UK to invest £20m in Africa’s anti-covid-19 Fund

The United Kingdom has said it would be investing up to £20m in the African Union’s new ‘Africa anti-covid-19 fund’ to slow down the spread of coronavirus and save lives.

The British High Commission in Nigeria said in a statement that the funding was announced by UK International Development Secretary, Anne-Marie Trevelyan.

According to the statement, this makes the UK the largest national donor to the fund which was announced by Cyril Ramaphosa, Chairperson of the African Union (AU) and South Africa President, Cyril Ramaphosa, last month.

It said that the funds would support African leaders and technical experts to slow the spread of coronavirus and save lives in Africa and worldwide.

Flags to be flown at half mast in US as Trump announce 3 days of mourning for coronavirus victims

President Trump has ordered for American flags on all federal buildings to be lowered to half-staff over the next three days to honor those who have passed away from coronavirus.

Trump tweeted: 'I will be lowering the flags on all Federal Buildings and National Monuments to half-staff over the next three days in memory of the Americans we have lost to the CoronaVirus.'

While daily death tolls are no longer on a steady incline, the losses are still mounting, with the total count in the US above 94,500 -- by far the nation with the most deaths. More than 1.5million Americans having been infected.

The president also announced for flags to fly at half-staff on federal buildings and national monuments to commemorate military personnel who have died.

Dismissed Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Kano State, Engineer Mu’azu Magaji has recovered from coronavirus.

He took to his Facebook page to announce he has been confirmed covid-19 negative and discharged.

“To the Glory of Allah SWT, today Friday 22nd May and 29th Ramadan I have been confirmed Covid-19 negative and discharged from Isolation center,” he wrote.

A father was allegedly stabbed to death by his n.a.k.e.d son while on a live Alcoholics Anonymous Zoom chat with his group.

Dwight Powers, 72, was video chatting with at least 20 people when they said they noticed him disappear from the screen.

One man on the AA group chat said a n3ked and bald man then came into view and appeared to be pulling sheets from the bed.

He said he thought the n.a.k.e.d man was using the sheet's to cover Dwight Powers' body at his New Jersey home in America.

President Buhari to observe Eid-el-Fitr with family at home

With the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations around the corner and the month-long Ramadan fast coming to an end, President Muhammadu Buhari will be conducting his Eid prayers with his family at home.

A teenager who lost both her hands to meningitis has defied the odds by learning to play the piano.

Tilly Lockey, 14, was determined to prove a physiotherapist wrong after she said she would never master it.

Tilly said she also wanted to inspire others to achieve their own “impossible” dreams. Mum Sarah was so angry at the physiotherapist’s comment, she went on eBay and bought a piano.

Chess star Oladapo Adu stranded in Abidjan after going there to represent Nigeria, says his Tunisian colleague has been evacuated

Nigerian chess player, International Master Oladapo Adu, has been stranded in Abidjan, the capital of Ivory Coast, for nine weeks following the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic.

Adu was in Freetown, Sierra Leone, where he went to compete at the Zone 4.2 Individual Chess Championship but has been left stranded in Abidjan, after his Air Cote d’Ivoire flight was cancelled. Adu said he had to embark on a three-day road trip from Freetown to the Ivoirian capital.

The chess star had arrived Lagos from the US on March 13, boarded another flight to Freetown the following day for the event, with his return flight to Nigeria scheduled for March 22.  However, Air Cote d’Ivoire’s last flight out of Freetown was on March 20, after the airline cancelled all its flights due to covid-19.
