Nigerian striker Odion Ighalo continued his phenomenal record of scoring in every game he has started for Manchester United when he got the opening goal in today’s 2-1 win over Norwich City in the FA Cup quarter-final tie.

After a barren first half, Ighalo gave United the lead six minutes into the second half, acrobatically stabbing home from close range after good work from Luke Shaw and Juan Mata.

That goal was the fifth in four starts for Ighalo who was surprisingly signed in January by United on loan from Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua.

NASA wants you to help put the loo in lunar, so it's offering $35,000 in prizes to design a toilet that can be used on the moon.

The space agency has set an ambitious goal of sending astronauts back to the moon by 2024 and the crew will obviously have to go to the bathroom during the mission.

NASA may adapt the toilet design for its Artemis lunar lander, so it will need to work both in the microgravity of space, or "zero-g," and on the moon, where the gravity is about a sixth of what we feel on Earth, according to the design guidelines posted by NASA and HeroX, which allows anyone to create challenges to solve a problem facing the world.

Ondo sacks striking Resident doctors

Ondo state government has sacked the striking Residents doctors at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMETH).

Their sacking was contained in a letter announcing the suspension of the institution residency training programme from August 1st, 2020.

The letter urged “all Resident doctors directly employed by the hospital to seek continuation of their programme in other institutions where there are ongoing training programs.

The letter which was dated June 23 and signed by Director of Administration of UNIMETH, Adeeyo Babatunde, said it was to allow the hospital focus on service delivery in order to combat COVID-19 outbreak without distraction of agitation from the Resident Doctors.

Okowa writes from isolation, says covid-19 is not a hoax

Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State, on Saturday, wrote from where he was isolated from his family, deploring the increasing cases of covid-19 in the state.

He said it had become obvious that community transmission of the virus had reached an alarming and frightening proportion in the State.

Okowa in a statement he personally signed, lamented that many persons still think that the Coronavirus disease was a hoax, saying: “It cannot be a hoax when over 20 persons have died including some prominent citizens.

“Therefore, I want to make a passionate appeal to all Deltans to please realise that the coronavirus disease is real.

Mother of two attempts suicide in Abule-Egba

A woman who lives in Abule-Egba area of Lagos known as Mrs Bukola Agboola on Thursday was rescued by neighbours after attempting suicide.

The mother of two was said to have attempted suicide on Thursday night, in her residence at No. 2 Kuburat Lawal Street, Abule-Egba in Agbado Oke Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos.

Bukola reportedly drank sniper on the basis of being frustrated by the complexities of life coupled with lack of basic care. She was however rushed to Ile Epo General Hospital by her husband’s brother who was living nearby.

Lagos, Osun threaten fresh lockdown as cases hit 23,298

Lagos and Osun state governments have threatened fresh lockdowns amid increasing covid-19 cases in the states and the country.

Fresh 684 Covid-19 cases were recorded in 18 states and the Federal Capital Territory on Friday by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, bringing the total number of cases to 23,298.

While 8,253 discharged patients had recovered, 554 deaths were recorded.

Lagos, Oyo, and Katsina had the highest number of cases at 259, 76 and 69, respectively. Delta, Rivers had 46; Ogun, 23; Edo, 22; Osun, 22; and Ebonyi, 21.

Peter Okoye, wife, daughter battled covid-19 for three weeks

Peter Okoye has revealed how his nuclear family tested positive for the novel Coronavirus and battled it for three weeks.

The former Psquare member who now goes by the name Mr P made this known on his verified Instagram account via videos.

In one of the videos, Peter said he was the one who first tested positive for the virus.

Ogun State government has warned street beggars to desist from the act of street begging or face punitive measures of sweeping market square for two weeks.

UN condemns video of couple reportedly having s*x inside its official car

The United Nations (UN) says it has launched an investigation into a viral video showing a couple apparently having s.e.x in one of its official cars in Israel.

Spokesman of the Secretary-General, Mr Stephane Dujarric, told UN correspondents in New York that the organisation was “shocked and deeply disturbed” by the footage.

Dujarric confirmed that the video featured a 4×4 vehicle, containing personnel “likely assigned to the UN Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO)”.

Another member of Makinde’s cabinet tests positive for Covid

Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has confirmed that another member of his cabinet has tested positive for Covid-19.

This latest new case brings to four those who have contacted the pandemic in the Oyo State cabinet.

The governor had written on his Facebook account some days ago that three members of his cabinet had tested positive while two other results were inconclusive.

The governor on his FB page said one of the inconclusive results returned positive.

A pensioner called police on a nine-year-old girl after she wrote "Black Lives Matter" in chalk outside her home, it has been reported.

The woman accused little Mira Acklin of vandalising the street where they live in Ohio and called 911 to report her.

Mira's mum, Jenna Acklin, said she was "proud of her kind heart" and added their neighbour was "nasty".

She took to Facebook to recount the series of events that happened after Mira wrote the message in the street.

Tears flow as Nollywood actor, Ogun Majek is buried [video]

Video of friends and families wailing and crying while the remains of Ace Nollywood actor, Gbolagade Akinpelu popularly known as Ogun Majek was laid to rest has surfaced online.

In the video, a lot of people were seen gathering together to pay their last respect to the veteran actor.

Late Ogun Majek battled a prolonged-sickness before he died at his residence in Ibadan, Oyo state, on Thursday, June 25.

Ajimobi died of multiple organ failure - Lagos Government

Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi, has said former Oyo Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, died of multiple organ failure. Professor Akin Abayomi explained, in a tweet, that covid-19 complications triggered multiple organs failure.

Abayomi, on his Twitter handle, said: “We regret the death of immediate past Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajumobi, who passed on today, June 25, 2020 at First Cardiologist Consultant; a private COVID-19 approved care facility in Lagos State.

“The former Governor died from multiple organs failure following complications from COVID-19 infection. “On behalf of COVID-19 Lagos Incident Commander, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, and the entire #COVID19Lagos response team, we convey our heartfelt condolences to the family of the former Governor and the people of Oyo State.”

14 dead bodies dumped by the roadside in Mexico

Authorities in Mexico found 14 bodies dumped on the side of a road in northern Zacatecas state, where notorious criminal gangs operate, the regional government said on Friday.

Images on local media showed the bodies by the side of a road, wrapped in blankets and tied with adhesive tape.

Zacatecas public prosecutor, Francisco Murillo told the press that four of the bodies had been identified and were from Juan Aldama, a town 150 kilometers (90 miles) to the north of Fresnillo, where they were found.

“They are people who disappeared from that region a few days ago,” said Murillo.

The electricity distribution company made the announcement in a statement signed by its Head of Corporate Communications, Mr Felix Ofulue.

Ofulue said the Ikeja Electric Plc’s new tariffs, which are service reflective, are end-user rates to be paid for electricity based on the level of service (including availability and reliability) provided to a cluster of customers.

50-year-old father arrested for raping 13-year-old daughter

A 50-year-old father in Osun State was paraded by the state's Police Command for raping his 13-year-old daughter.

This was disclosed by the Commissioner of Police, Undie Adie, who vowed that the command would not relent in ensuring that rapists were made to face the full wrath of the law.

The father, Adeyeye, who lives at B50 Agbongbe Street in Ibokun, Obokun Local Government Area of the state, while fielding questions from journalists said it was intoxication that led him into raping his daughter.

“She is my daughter from my other wife that left me and I have had s.e.x with her like twice under the influence of alcohol. But on the day I was arrested, I did not have s.e.x with her.

EFCC to go after Nigerian looters hiding in Ghana — Magu

Mr Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), says many Nigerian looters are hiding in neighbouring Ghana.

Speaking in Abuja on Friday, Magu said the commission was putting resources together to go after them and recover the country’s wealth stashed in that country.

8 medical staff of FMC, Abeokuta test positive for Covid-19

No fewer than eight staffers of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, Abeokuta have tested positive for covid-19. The affected staff consisted of medical doctors, nurses and an administrative staff.

This was contained in a press statement issued on Friday by the hospital’s Head of Public Relations and Information, Segun Orisajo.

Orisajo said the affected staff were part of the team which had contact with a two and half years old coronavirus positive toddler currently receiving treatment at the Centre’s Isolation ward. He added that the Covid-19 positive status of the affected FMC Abeokuta’s staff was detected during the round of contact tracing carried out by the hospital Infection Control Team.

Nonetheless, none of the staff had so far shown the symptoms of coronavirus.

On March 8, 2019, the eve of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, Stephen Alao, a then corps member serving in Kebbi State, was involved in a fatal accident. Vehicles crush homeless man, pedestrian to death in Lagos

It was a tragic end for a middle-aged destitute man along Lagos-Badagry Expressway, Lagos, after a shuttle bus ran over him.

The man, whose name and address had yet to be identified, was reportedly crushed when the driver, one Rahmon, put the bus in reverse.

City Round gathered that the vehicle climbed on the man who lay by the roadside and killed him on the spot.

Passersby were said to have held the driver and alerted the police to the incident which occurred penultimate Tuesday.

Drug Abuse: Nigeria ranks 5th in world suicide rate

Reports have recently ranked Nigeria as 5th in the world with the highest suicide rate of an average of six suicides per month. Substance use has been attributed as a major factor which leads people to commit suicide.

Also, the increase in cases of sudden deaths (such as suicide) among Nigeria’s youths in the country is reportedly connected to opioid overdose, which is the most common drug injected by youths.

Going by the recent trend, and if nothing is urgently done, Nigeria stands the risk of losing more than 100 youths daily to opioid overdose. This is because Nigeria’s population is said to be about 3% of the world population but 6% of the world population of cannabis users.

Watch the moment police smash window to save dog trapped in car in 40C heat

Footage shows the moment a tiny dog was saved after being stuck inside a boiling car for four hours as temperatures reached 40C.

Police were called to the scene in Seville, southern Spain, at around 2pm after a concerned resident reported that a Yorkshire terrier had been trapped inside a car in direct sunlight since 10am.

When officers arrived the dog was ‘on the verge of passing out,’ with the car thermometer showing temperatures had soared to 40C with police believing temperatures reached at least 50C inside the vehicle. The dog has now been removed from the owner’s care, said police.

A video released by Seville’s emergency services, shows police breaking into the passenger window, before the tiny Yorkshire terrier is seen cowering in the shade under the steering wheel.

Reps panel tackles DSTV over high tariff, demands ‘pay-as-you-go’ subscription

A house of representatives committee has insisted that cable and satellite television service providers in the country must introduce a pay-as-you-go subscription plan for customers.

The house ad hoc committee, which is investigating service providers over their high tariffs, said the pay-per-view plan is to address the yearnings of Nigerians.

The house had in March resolved to investigate complaints about high tariffs and monopolised bouquets on the cable subscription service.

The green chamber is specifically probing the Digital Satellite Television (DSTV), a South Africa-based company owned by MultiChoice, for high tariffs and restricting Nigerian customers to prepaid plans.

Driver, 2 others attack LASTMA General Manager with weapons

A driver, conductor, and their friend have been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos Magistrate’s Court for attacking the General Manager/ Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Mr. Olajide Oduyoye.

They allegedly used scissors, screwdrivers and in the process inflicted injuries on Olajide’s right hand and other parts of the body.

Paul Edem Ekpo, 24, Michael George, 28, and Friday Pius, 28, allegedly attacked the LASTMA boss for daring to caution the driver Ekpo for reckless driving.

It was gathered that the timely intervention of the Female Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Ilasan Division, Lekki, Lagos, CSP Onyinye Onwuameagbu saved the LASTMA boss from being killed by the accused persons as she reportedly despatched her men to the scene of the incident to restore order following a distress call.

Nine passengers abducted in Ondo, N100m ransom demanded

Suspected herdsmen have reportedly kidnapped nine passengers aboard a commercial bus along lsua highway in Akoko South East area of Ondo state.

Consequently, the abductors have demanded N100m ransom from the families of the victims.

The crash took place at 1pm yesterday on the southbound carriageway between Junction 40 at Flushdyke and Junction 39 at Durkar.

A police spokesperson claimed the van driver was left with non-serious head injuries after ploughing into the back of the supercar.

A gang who raided the home of Leicester's Demarai Gray have been sentenced to a combined 85 years in prison.

Gray's girlfriend, Emma Hickman, and baby were inside the home at the time of the burglary which was part of a six-month crime spree.

Miss Hickman was confronted by the balaclava-clad intruders - one wielding a machete - while she lay naked on the bed with the couple's six-week old child, a court hearing heard.

The ordeal left her so terrified she moved out of the address in Worcestershire.
