Oritsefemi also speaks on celebrity marriages crashing

Singer Oritsefemi Ekele has also lend his voice on celebrity marriages crashing. According to him, both partners in a marriage must be open to each other. He also spoke about celebrity guys, saying they need to know once they are married, its a different game. He said;

“People say celebrity marriages don’t last but a Yoruba adage says, ‘If you can recognise a person in the afternoon, you won’t light a lamp to glance at them again at night.’ This simply means that when a couple knows each other very well, there is nothing that will be strange between them. It also means that an outsider’s opinion will not be welcome.

“Communication is important between couples. There should be nothing that a man can’t discuss with his wife and vice versa. If a couple keeps many secrets, there will be trouble. They need to be natural and free with each other. For instance, I’m open to my wife and she knows me well.

According to Kiddwaya, his father was always busy working for money and bringing money home money. He said he replaced love with money. However, his mother tried to show some motherly love to him. This follows after Erica complained to him that he doesn’t show her love.

In his words;

“I don’t easily get to express my love or how I feel for a lady, I didn’t grow up that way, am probably being so because of how I had lived and grown-up. My dad doesn’t show much love, he is not around to give it so he gives money instead and my mom, well she shows motherly love as supposed, but I think I wanted more love from them.”

Sad Saturday as diesel truck crushes pregnant woman, her 2 children, 3 others to death in Ondo

NO fewer than six persons including a pregnant woman and her two children were feared killed on Saturday in an auto crash involving a diesel tanker, truck and six motor-cycles at Ikare area of Ondo state.

Scores were reportedly injured as the truck carrying petroleum content crashed at a commercial area of Okorun quarter, killing the deceased while many were injured.

The trailer conveying diesel had a break failure and crashed into a truck which eventually crushed the commercial motor-cyclists.

Eyewitness account said the truck was coming from Ado Ekiti axis of Ikare-Ado road when it lost control and crashed to the commercial area opposite a police station at Okorun Ikare.

Electronic giant LG creates battery-powered face mask

LG Electronics has unveiled a new face mask that includes built-in fans and filters to create what the company is calling a “wearable air purifier”.

The battery-powered mask includes two H13 HEPA filters, similar to those used in home air purifying products, as well as dual fans and a patented respiratory sensor to adjust the fan speed in line with the wearer’s breathing speed.

Called the PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier, LG says the device allows the user to breathe clean air both indoors and outside.

The battery can last up to eight hours on a single charge, and the device comes with a case that houses UV-LED lights that kill germs between uses, while the case can also send alerts to an LG app to notify the user when the air filters need to be replaced.

Breaking! Sanwo-Olu orders reopening of tertiary institutions

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governor of Lagos, has directed all tertiary institutions under the state government to reopen.

The institutions were shut indefinitely in March to check the spread of COVID-19.

But at a briefing on Saturday, the governor asked them to reopen but said secondary schools should remain shut.

Only SS3 students participating in the ongoing West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) are allowed in schools.

Lagos helicopter crash: Sanwo-Olu visits site, orders integrity test on buildings

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu has ordered immediate conduct of integrity test on the two buildings at No 16B and 14, Salvation Road, Opebi, Ikeja, affected by the Friday crash of a light helicopter belonging to Quorum Aviation Limited.

The three crew, including the pilot, died in the unfortunate incident.

Recall that the ill-fated helicopter with registration Number 5N-BQW flying from Port-Harcourt to Lagos on Friday, August 28, 2020, at about 12 noon, crash-landed in the premises of the above mentioned two buildings at Opebi, Ikeja en-route Murtala Muhammed Airport, Lagos.

Sanwo-Olu, who arrived the area at about 2pm during an on-the-spot assessment of the area on Saturday, subsequently, directed immediate integrity test on the affected buildings.

Yola hospital separates twins joined around the abdomen at birth

Specialist doctors at the Federal Medical Centre, Yola, have separated two children who were born joined around the abdomen as Siamese twins.

The twins who are both girls and now aged eight months, were born at the Nembe General Hospital in Bayelsa State on December 12, 2019 and were immediately referred to the FMC Yenagoa where they were, in turn, referred to the FMC Yola.

The twins had been flown by the Nigeria Air Force to Yola in January this year but the surgery to remove them was not done till earlier this month.

The FMC Yola Medical Director, Prof Auwal Abubakar, who spoke to newsmen on Saturday during a farewell for the twins and their parents, said the surgery was finally done on August 10.

Vacate your houses, NEMA tells Anambra residents in flood prone areas

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has warned residents of Anambra in flood plains and low lands near the River Niger and its tributaries to relocate.

The South-East Zonal Coordinator of NEMA, Mr Fred Anusim, gave the warning on Saturday in Enugu.

The Nigerian Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) and Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET) had earlier predicted torrential rains in September in 28 states of the country.

NIHSA early this week specifically noted that there had been disturbing growing level of water in the River Niger.

Gas explosion razes building in Mushin, Lagos

A residential building at Adeshile street, Mushin in Lagos was engulfed by fire on saturday after a cooking gas cylinder exploded.

It was gathered that the fire started around 8 am and destroyed the entire first floor of the building.

Mr Nosa Okunbor, the Public Relations Officer of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the incident.

According to him, the exact source and cause are still unknown but eyewitnesses stated that a cooking gas exploded.

JK Rowling to return award over ‘transphobic tweets' criticism


“Harry Potter” author JK Rowling on Friday said that she would give back an award bestowed upon her by the Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organization after one of its members criticised her views on gender issues.

The Robert F. Kennedy Human Rights organisation presented Rowling with its Ripple of Hope award in December 2019.

But the group’s president, Kerry Kennedy,the daughter of Robert F. Kennedy, said this month that the Rowling’s outspoken views on gender “diminished the identity” of trans people.

Rowling, in a statement on her website said: “Kerry Kennedy recently felt it necessary to publish a statement denouncing my views.

17 killed, 28 injured in China restaurant collapse

At least 17 people died on Saturday when a restaurant in northern China collapsed, state media said, with rescuers pulling dozens of survivors from the rubble and searching for others believed to be trapped.

The two-storey building used for banquets came down in the morning in Xiangfen county, in Shanxi province, according to broadcaster CGTN.

Xinhua news agency reported that “45 people have been brought out, of which 17 were dead, seven seriously injured and 21 slightly injured.”

Rescuers in orange overalls and hard hats combed the crumbled ruin of the building, images on the CGTN website showed, with a decorative painting seen on one of the few walls still intact.

Riot in Sweden after anti-Muslim Danish leader banned

At least 10 people were arrested in southern Sweden and several police officers were injured in violence which broke out after an anti-Muslim Danish politician was blocked from attending a Koran-burning rally, police said Saturday.

Protesters threw stones at police and burned tyres on the streets of Malmo late Friday, with violence escalating as the evening wore on, according to police and local media.

The demonstration of about 300 people was connected to an incident earlier in the day in which protesters burned a copy of the Islamic holy book, police spokesman Rickard Lundqvist told Swedish tabloid Expressen.

Between 10 and 20 protesters were arrested late Friday and “have all been released,” police spokesman Patric Fors told AFP.

Kaduna Government bans tricycle operators from major roads

The Kaduna State Government has banned tricycle operators from plying major roads within the metropolis, in line with the ongoing transport sector reform.

Hajiya Aisha Sa’idu-Bala, Director-General, Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), announced the ban in a statement in Kaduna.

She said all tricycles, “Keke”, are banned from the Kawo-Ali Akilu- Ahmadu Bello-Command Junction routes with effect from Aug. 31.

She said the Kaduna State Traffic Law Enforcement Agency (KASTLEA) would ensure strict compliance to the new Keke regulations.

COVID-19: Kwara deputy governor recovers from infection

The deputy governor of Kwara State, Mr Kayode Alabi, has recovered from the coronavirus infectious disease.

Alabi, who had been in isolation for the past two weeks having tested positive for the virus, has recovered fully and would be back to his desk.

A statement in Ilorin by Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the State governor and spokesman of the State Covid-19 technical committee announced this on Saturday.

“On Friday evening, August 28, 2020, the result of a repeat test by His Excellency, the Deputy Governor of Kwara state and chairman of the technical committee on Covid-19, Mr Kayode Alabi, came back negative.

Chadwick Boseman secretly married wife Taylor Simone before death

Chadwick Boseman is reported to have secretly married his partner Taylor Simone Ledward before his death. His partner who was beside him when he died in the early hours of Saturday.

The much-loved and respected Black Panther actor was confirmed to have died today after battling colon cancer for four years. His beloved Taylor was by his side in his final moments along with close members of his family as he passed away at home.

Chadwick had asked Taylor to marry him in October last year and the pair are believed to have said their vows in a private ceremony before the actor’s cancer advanced according to The Mirror.

'Innocent man is r.a.p.e.d and killed' by parents of two little girls who 'lied that he touched them'

An innocent dad was allegedly r.a.p.e.d and battered to death by vengeful parents after their daughter "lied" and said that he had abused her as a "joke".

The girl claimed truck driver Dmitry Chikvarkin had touched her and a friend "below the waist" as he was dropping them off to a carer in the town of Verkhnyaya Pyshma in Russia.

She told her parents Valeria Dunaeva, 25, and Sergey Chabin, 33, and they gathered three male friends to attack Chikvarkin, cops claim.

A law enforcement source told the Znak newspaper they smashed a metal pipe over his head, breaking his skull.

Pilot in the crashed Bell helicopter confirmed as Chika Prudence Ernest

The pilot of the ill-fated Bell 206 helicopter that crashed in Ikeja, Lagos yesterday, has been identified.

Also identified with him was the co-pilot, Clement Ndiok.

The identity of the third person, who was a passenger in the helicopter could not be confirmed. He died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital on Friday night.

The identities of the victims were revealed by Africa Aviation Group.

Man dumps own three-week old baby boy inside Ondo canal

A man, identified as Muyiwa Ayorinde, was mobbed at the Oke Aro area of Akure, Ondo State capital, for allegedly dumping his own baby inside a canal in the area.

The 32-year-old man was said to have kept the baby inside a black bag and thrown him inside the canal. He was, however, caught by the residents of the area who later handed him over to the police.

A source narrated that the cry of the baby inside the bag attracted the people who were then monitoring the suspect’s movement.

He said, “I saw the young man looking strange as he alighted from an okada (motorcycle) and pulled out a black bag and dropped it inside the canal and we heard a baby crying aloud.

'Black Panther' star Chadwick Boseman dies at 43

Chadwick Boseman, the man who brought "Black Panther" to life, has died.

The actor has been battling colon cancer since 2016 and died at home with his family and wife by his side, according to a statement posted on his Twitter account.

He was 43, his publicist Nicki Fioravante said in a statement.

"A true fighter, Chadwick persevered through it all, and brought you so many of the films you have come to love so much," the statement said. 

45-year-old man commits suicide in Rivers state

A man identified as Chinedu Peter Ogwa has committed suicide in Wokoma Street in Mile Three Diobu area of Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital

The 45 years old Ogwa, who hailed from Ebonyi State, was reported to have dropped a written note for his family after taking a substance that was believed to be responsible for his death.

The wife of the victim, Chidinma Ogwa, who spoke to newsmen, said her husband recently developed a frustrated attitude after he complained how he had been abandoned by friends and relatives because of his current situation.

Chidinma, while recalling the last time she talked with her husband, said she never had any quarrel with him before he took his life.

Nigeria’s Covid-19 cases hit 53, 477

Nigeria recorded 160 more Covid-19 cases on Friday which take total infections in the country to 53, 477.

According to the latest report from the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), the new cases were recorded in the Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory and 13 other states.

However, Plateau topped the list with 44 cases while Lagos came second with 27 infections, followed by Katsina – 18, Edo – 15 and the FCT – 14.

Other states include Ondo – 10, Oyo – 9, Kwara – 6, Abia and Nasarawa – 4, Kano – 3, Ekiti and Kaduna – 2, Kebbi, and Ogun – 1.

Tesla SAVED by employee as Russian hacker offers him $1m bribe to install virus on company's system

Tesla founder Elon Musk has confirmed that an employee was offered $1million by a Russian to install a virus. 

Fortunately, the employee did not accept the bribe.

US authorities arrested the Russian national this week after they travelled to the US as a 'tourist' but reportedly had the intent of attacking Tesla with malware.

Tesla hasn't commented publicly on the matter but Musk responded to a tweeted news article about the plot and his employee turning down the $1million.

10 killed, 4 injured as lightning strikes children in Uganda

Ten children have been confirmed dead while four others have been seriously injured after lightning struck them while sheltering from a storm during a football game in northern Uganda, on Friday.

According to police spokeswoman, Josephine Angucia, the boys, aged 11 to 16, had been sheltering from a storm in a makeshift structure in Arua city, northwest of the capital Kampala on Thursday before the incident happened.

Angucia said young boys had been playing football when it began to rain and lightning struck them.

She also said four other children were seriously injured on the incident.

Identities of Lagos helicopter crash victims revealed

The identities of victims of the helicopter crash in a residential part of Opebi in Lagos State on Friday afternoon have been revealed.

A statement released by Quorum Company, owners of the helicopter, said the three victims were crew members.

The company said that the light helicopter with registration Number 5N-BQW was flying from Port-Harcourt to Lagos before it crashed.

It also stated that nobody in the building was hurt or injured in the unfortunate incident.

President Buhari reacts to Lagos helicopter crash, mourns

Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to Friday’s helicopter crash at Salvation Road, Opebi area of Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

A Bell 206 copter belonging to Quorum Aviation crashed into a building at Salvation Road on Friday, killing two people, with one injured.

Reacting to the development, Buhari, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, commiserated with the families, friends and associates of victims of the Bell 206 helicopter operated by Quorum Aviation which crashed on Friday.

He said the nation was still awaiting report of investigation into the accident by the aviation regulatory agencies.

Robbers seize 9 million euros in France cash heist

Thieves made off with about nine million euros in cash in the southeastern French city of Lyon on Friday in an armed attack on an armoured security vehicle, prosecutors said.

The vehicle was attacked by several armed individuals as it came out of a branch of the Bank of France in Lyon.

No-one was wounded in the attack on the vehicle belonging to the Loomis security company “but the losses amount to nine million euros (about $10.7 million)”, prosecutors said in a statement to AFP.

“The perpetrators managed to immediately flee after committing the act.”
