#EndSars: Young Nigerian Jimoh Isiaq killed in Ogbomosho, seven others injured

A young Nigerian, Jimoh Isiaq was shot in Ogbomosho during an #EndSars protest on Saturday and later died from the resulting injuries, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde has confirmed.

The Governor also said seven others sustained injuries during the protest and have been taken to the hospital for treatment.

Eyewitnesses said Isiaq was standing along the road when he was shot by the Nigerian police.

Human rights organisation, Amnesty International also said Isiaq was shot by the police.

BBNaija Erica shares food at #EndSARS protest

Disqualified BBNaija Season 5 housemate, Erica Nlewedim in her own way has joined the #EndSARS protest in Lagos.

The actress and model was earlier today spotted distributing food and relief items to #EndSARS protesters at the Lekki protest ground in Lagos in a viral video that surfaced online.

Nigerian singer, songwriter and rapper, Divine Ikubor known professionally as Rema, has joined the #EndSARs protest.

The vibrant singer in solidarity with the movement did the big chop by barbing his signature dreadlocks.

The Dumebi crooner took to his Twitter page to show off his new hair-cut with a caption “Dreads don’t mean I’m a criminal #EndSARS”.See his tweet below.

Daughters of President Buhari, Osinbajo join #EndSARS protest

President Muhammadu Buhari’s daughter, Zahra, and Vice President Osinbajo’s daughter, Kiki have joined the ongoing #EndSARS protest against police brutality in the country.

Kiki Osinbajo had on Saturday shared a post on her Instagram page saying “Police brutality must end now” using the hashtags #endpolicebrutality and #endsars.

Singer Damini Ogulu aka Burna Boy has finally joined his voice to the voices of Nigerians calling for the end of Nigeria Police Force’s Special Anti-Robbery squad.

The Grammy Award nominee and self-acclaimed African Giant mounted an EndSars billboard across the country.

He earlier issued a statement on Saturday amid knocks from Nigerian youths who had expressed disappointment over the musician’s silence.

Kerosene explosion: Two women inflicted with serious severe burns in Ebonyi

Two separate kerosene explosions, weekend rocked Abakaliki, and inflicted two women with severe burns on their skin.

The incident, which involved a 70-year-old woman and a 21-year-old girl has thrown residents into fear and apprehension over the possibility of adulterated kerosene in circulation in the state.

The 70 years old, Mrs. Elizabeth Igwe resides at 3 Jemeni Street in the capital city while the girl Miss Chinenye Ezekwenna resides at 40 Jemeni Street.

Narrating her ordeal, Elizabeth said the kerosene exploded when she was refilling her hurricane lamp in the night.

Teenager kills prostitute in front of her three children

An 18-year-old teenager has been arrested after stabbing to death a female prostitute in the house she shared with her three children in Kanduyi, Bungoma County, Kenya.

Bungoma police boss, Wilson Nanga, who confirmed the Thursday incident, said they have launched investigations into the matter.

Locals said that they were woken up by cries in the middle of the night of the woman’s three children.

To rescue the children, all aged under 10, the neighbours had to break the windows to access the house as the assailant locked himself in the bedroom after killing their mother.

Ondo Poll: Thugs stab man with bottle at polling unit

Rival party supporters clashed in Ward 4 unit 002 in Ijomu/Obanla where a man was stabbed with a bottle by thugs and rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The victim, simply called Gboye, was described as a strong supporter of a major contender for the Ondo governorship position.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that security operatives immediately stepped in and calmed the situation.

Voting had also began in Sacred Heart primary school ward two-unit nine and unit 10 where voters lined up in an orderly manner to cast their votes.

Offset admits he is stressed and misses Cardi B amid divorce

Grammy award-winning rapper Cardi B got fans talking weeks ago when she filed for divorce from her rapper husband Offset.

The three-year marriage had been rocked by accusations of Offset’s infidelity from the start with Cardi announcing earlier that she wanted to file for divorce. She appeared to later change her mind and stuck with the marriage until now.

Yesterday, Offset who is a part of the group The Migos took to his Instagram page and shared a video of himself asking fans for tips about a hair makeover.

Kyrgyz ex-president re-arrested after jail escape

Kyrgyzstan’s security service said Saturday that it had rearrested former president Almazbek Atambayev after supporters freed him from jail during post-election protests.

The arrest came as the incumbent president Sooronbay Jeenbekov reasserted control following unrest after a disputed parliamentary election in which several prominent politicians were freed.

The state national security committee said in a statement that Atambayev had been arrested on suspicion of organising mass disorder, along with one of his bodyguards and another accomplice. 

The committee was currently “identifying and arresting other accomplices of this crime”, it said. 

Rashford honoured with MBE by Queen Elizabeth II for his campaign against child poverty

Star footballer turned political activist Marcus Rashford has been honored by Queen Elizabeth II in recognition of his campaign to feed vulnerable children during the coronavirus crisis.

The Manchester United and England striker receives an MBE (Member of the British Empire) in the birthday honors list which was postponed from June to reward key workers and others for their efforts during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Rashford, 22, took the fight to the UK government by campaigning for 1.3 million children to claim free school meal vouchers in England's summer holidays.

The government was originally set to end the scheme, which only runs during the school term, but after crafting a powerful open letter to lawmakers, backed by his use of social media with 2.8 million followers on Twitter, Rashford forced a U-turn.

End SARS: Protesters storm Abeokuta with charms [Photos]

Protesters calling for an end to the operation of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Nigeria Police Force, on Saturday, stormed Abeokuta with charms.

As early as 8 am, the protesters converged on Panseke area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Some of them were seen with items suspected to be charms, as they dressed themselves like ancient Yoruba warlords.

As they marched round the Abeokuta metropolis, they carried placards saying “#Endsars, #Endpolicebrutality.”

Nigerian record producer, Michael Collins Ajereh, better known as Don Jazzy has joined the mass protest against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

He confirmed it today, on Saturday via his official Instagram page.

The Mavin CEO posted a video of himself walking alongside other protesters.

Other celebrities like Timi Dakolo, Noble Igwe, VJ Ehiz from MTV Base were also there.

#OndoDecides2020: Sporadic shooting as gunmen invade polling unit

There was pandemonium in an area of Akure on Saturday morning, when gun-wielding men invaded a polling unit, shooting sporadically to disrupt the voting process.

The incident occurred at unit 4, ward 4, Ijomu/Obanla, in Akure South local government, at about 8.40 am.

A young man who was identified simply as Gboyega, was shot in the process and was rushed to the hospital on a motorcycle.

Prospective voters, media men, election observers and INEC officials scampered to safety, as the hoodlums continued shooting for several minutes.

Pakistan bans Tik-Tok over ‘immoral and indecent’ content

TikTok has been banned in Pakistan after the country’s telecom regulator deemed that it had failed to filter out “immoral and indecent” content.

It is the latest blow for the beleaguered social media platform, which back in June was banned in India after that country said it had received reports that TikTok and other Chinese apps were “stealing and surreptitiously transmitting users’ data.”

The app, which is owned by China-based ByteDance, also faces a potential ban in the US over concerns about user privacy.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority said that its ban would be in place until TikTok introduced a mechanism that would moderate unlawful content, adding that it has received “complaints from different segments of the society against immoral and indecent content on the video-sharing application.”

Akwaza also said that he was happy that his brother has been killed, affirming that his brother’s death would now bring peace to him and members of his family, who he said had been on the run for a long time since Gana started his notoriety.

Nigerians hammer Super Eagles over loss to Algeria

Nigeria’s Super Eagles on Friday lost their first friendly match 1-0 to Algeria.

An early goal by Ramy Bensebaini in the 6th minute was enough to hand the defending African champions a victory over Nigeria.

Ramy Bensebaini poked the ball into the net from close range after the Eagles defence failed to clear their lines from a corner kick.

 The match ended with Algeria posing more attacking threats by firing five shots on target compared to Nigeria’s two.

South African jailed for swallowing cocaine begs for mercy

A 27 year-old South African jailed for life for trafficking more than 0.5kg of cocaine from Brazil to Cambodia will know on 3 November, whether his sentence will be reduced.

This was the date the Cambodian Court of Appeal said it would deliver its verdict.

The South African, Blignaut Chan had swallowed the drugs before departing Brazil and was arrested at the Phnom Penh International Airport in September 2017.

He was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Phnom Penh Municipal Court.

Yesterday, 9th October, the hashtag #EndSARS was the number one trending topic worldwide on social media platform Twitter.

American singer-songwriter Trey Songz yesterday tweeted that after doing some research he would like to “speak out against what’s going on in Nigeria right now. Their pleas to #EndSarsNow IS VERY REAL. I have so much love for my Nigerian fans and it’s so hurtful to hear whats happening.”

Nigerian Igwe Linus arrested in Cambodia for meth smuggling

Police in Cambodia have arrested a 39 year-old Nigerian, Ogadimma Igwe Linus and 29 year-old Sierra Leonean, identified as Abdul for attempting to ship drugs into Australia.

They were arrested in Phnom Penh along with a Cambodian female accomplice, Han Lis, who is 28.

The trio were caught while trying to send 993.42 grams of methamphetamine drug to Australia via FEDEX on 6 October. 

The drug was hidden inside books.

Elderly couple found dead by each other are said to have agreed to commit suicide as police finds evidence

An elderly couple found dead suffering gunshot wounds near a hiking trail in Colorado died in a 'suicide pact', it has been revealed. 

Leroy 'Lee' Vigil, 73, shot his wife Stella Vigil, 72, before turning the gun on himself on Friday after they went on a hike in Colorado Springs, according to the autopsy.

Investigators said they found proof that the couple, from New Mexico, had an 'agreement' to take their own lives. 

'Through the course of the investigation, detectives obtained evidence that supported an agreement between Mr. and Mrs. Vigil to end their lives together,' the Colorado Springs Police Department shared a press release.  

27-year old man refused all help to save his one-year old daughter locked in hot car because he is scared the repair expenses would be much and she died

A Las Vegas dad has been charged with child abuse leading to substantial bodily harm after his one-year-old daughter was found dead in a hot car.

Sidney Deal, 27, was arrested on Monday after refusing several efforts to free his daughter, Sayah, from the hot car, where she was trapped for about an hour.

Deal was booked at the Clark County Detention Center and is being held on $20,000 bail. He didn't attend his initial hearing for medical reasons.

The Las Vegas Man told police officers on the scene that he didn't want to break the car windows of his Nissan Altima because of the potential cost to the vehicle.

Rep’s aide caught burgling another lawmaker’s office

Kabir Muhammed Lawal, Legislative Assistant to a member of the House of Representatives, Mustafa Saidu from Adamawa State, on Friday, was caught breaking into the office of another lawmaker from Kano State, Kabiru Idris.

Lawal, who was apprehended with the aid of a closed-circuit television camera, hails from Offa, Kwara State. Saidu is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party while Idris is a member of the All Progressives Congress.

Punch correspondent obtained a copy of the CCTV footage showing Lawal allegedly opening a shelf in the office as well as videos of his interrogation by Idris and some sergeants-at-arms.

According to eyewitnesses, Lawal had allegedly paraded himself as a journalist in the course of extorting money from unsuspecting politicians and visitors from Federal Government Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

End SARS: Buhari breaks silence on protests, sends directive to IG of Police

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally spoken on the ongoing nationwide protests against alleged brutality and extortion by operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

The protests have been going on nationwide for over 72 hours.

In a statement late on Friday night, Buhari confirmed that he had met with the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu.

The president expressed his determination to reform the Police Force and ensure that officers are fully accountable to Nigerians.

''Men with deep voice more likely to cheat''

In a revelation that should alarm anyone blessed with a baritone, Chinese researchers found that men with deeper voices are more likely to cheat on their partner. The sound-breaking study was published in the journal "Personality and Individual Differences" and approved by the Ethics Committee of Southwest University.

Indeed, while females largely find lower acoustics more arousing, masculine-sounding men are also “more likely to engage in infidelity” than “feminine men,” researchers said.

The scientists reached this conclusion by surveying an anonymous group of heterosexual, Mandarin-speaking university students — comprised of 116 men and 145 women — who were involved in brief flings.

Ghanaian lawmaker Quansah Hayford killed by robbers

A Ghanaian Member of Parliament (MP), Ekow Quansah Hayford, was killed by highway robbers in the country’s southern Central region, local police said Friday.

Irene Oppong, the spokesperson for the Central regional police command, said the MP for Mfantseman constituency Hayford, who was returning from a campaign trip late Thursday, was shot dead by the robbers.

She said the police patrol team, which responded to a distress call that armed robbers had blocked the Mankesim-Kumasi highway, met scores of passengers stranded with about 18 vehicles parked with their tires deflated.

“Among the victims was the MP for Mfantseman, Ekow Quansah Hayford, who was shot dead. The body has been deposited at the Saltpond government hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy,” she added.

Massive gridlock as #EndSARS protesters shutdown Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

There is massive gridlock on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway as #EndSARS protesters have shutdown the expressway.

The hundreds of protesters, which had earlier caused massive gridlock in Alausa when they came to protest at the State House of Assembly marched to the expressway, blocking the Alausa section of the road.

The protesters, armed with placards barricaded the highway from the Secretariat bus-stop, opposite Magodo Phase II.

The effect of the gridlock had begun to extend to the Otedola Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

#EndSARS: 14 suspects arrested over killing of policeman in Delta

Fourteen suspects linked to Thursday’s Police and #EndSARS protesters clash in Ughelli, Delta, which left a policeman dead have been arrested.

The Delta Police Command confirmed the development to The Nation on Friday evening.

It was gathered policemen in vans drove around the Ughelli metropolis, in the early parts of Friday, combing flashpoints for the “killer protesters.”

The development reportedly caused tension across the town as residents were said to have scampered for safety.

Protest turns violent as police arrest, disperse protesters with gunshots in Osun

The mobile police officers in Osogbo have dispersed some youths protesting against brutality and extortion by men of the Special Anti-Robbery Response Squad (SARS).

The police officers stationed at Olaiya Junction allegedly shoot sporadically in the air to disperse the protesting youths.

The arrest of the two protesters almost led to violence as other protesters stormed the base of the police where their APC vehicle was packed demanding for the release of their colleagues.

The policemen also seized placards and allegedly arrested two of the protesters.

ENDSARS: Wizkid agrees to join London protest

As Nigerians in London prepare to stage a peaceful protest on Sunday to the Nigerian Embassy in campaign to ENDSARS, twitter influencer, Dr. Dípò Awójídé (@OgbeniDipo) urged the singer to come out if he is in London and he replied shortly afterwards with an emoji agreeing to it.

Port Harcourt serial killer, David West, sentenced to death

Serial killer, Gracious David-West has been sentenced to death by hanging by a Rivers State High Court sitting in Port Harcourt.

David-West who was sentenced after being found guilty for the multiple murder of several females in hotels in different parts of the state, had earlier been charged with ten counts of murder and attempted murder.

Justice Enebeli passed the judgment based on the voluntary statement and confession of the David-West as well as the CCTV footage of the convicted which was tendered and displayed during trial.

He was found to be guilty of the murder of Maureen Ewuru, Jennifer Nwokocha, Blessing Effiong Linda Warifa Samuel, Dorcas Francis, Kelechi Bridget Onuoha Rose Samuel Anthonia Ibe, and the attempted murder of Benita Etim.

End SARS: I want to lead protest in London – Ex-BBNaija star, Mike

BBNaija Season 4 first runner up, Mike, has said that he wants to lead a protest in London against End SARS complaints in Nigeria.

Mike also called on Nigerians in diaspora and those living in London to join him in the protest.

Sanwo-Olu pardons Funke Akindele, releases 56 inmates

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has granted State pardon to Nollywood actress, Funke Akindele-Bello and her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello, who are both non-custodial convicts for offences related to the disobedience of COVID-19 lockdown regulation.

He also approved the release of 56 inmates from various Correctional Centres in the State.

Akindele and her husband were arrested during the Coronavirus lockdown for violating protocols by holding birthday party for her husband.

The duo were convicted and sentenced by a Magistrate’s Court in Ogba in a non-custodial sentence.

NULGE chairman docked for N17.5m fraud

Otsapa Ubani Otsapa, chairman of the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ado Local Government Chapter, Benue State, has been docked by the EFCC for alleged criminal conspiracy, abuse of office and diversion of public funds to the tune of N17.5 million.

Otsapa’s case is before Justice Moris Ikpambese of the Benue State High Court, Makurdi.

One of the two-count charge reads: “That you, Otsapa Ubani Otsapa being Chairman of National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ado Chapter, between 2016 and 2019 in Ado Local Government area of Benue State within the jurisdiction of this Honourable Court, was entrusted with the sum of N17,552,400.00 by the NULGE state chapter for the welfare of its members, but dishonesty misappropriated the said sum and thereby committed an offence, contrary to Section 312 of the Penal Code (CAP) 124 Laws of Benue State, and punishable under Section 313 of the same Law”.

Students of the Delta State Polytechnic, Ozoro are protesting against the N5,000 Covid-19 fee imposed by the management.

The protest, which started about 7am, saw several students at the institution’s gate and blocking the main entrance of the school.

The polytechnic had imposed a N5,000 Covid-19 levy on all students returning for the 2019/2020 academic session.
