Osimhen celebrates with #ENDSARS T-shirt after scoring against Atalanta [photo]

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has celebrated scoring a goal for Napoli in their 4-1 victory over Atalanta in Serie A.

Osimhen scored Napoli’s 4th goal, and celebrated it by holding a shirt with the inscription “End Police Brutality in Nigeria”, showing solidarity with the #EndSARS protesters in Nigeria.

Davido, Osun protesters call out Governor Oyetola over allege death of protester [photos & tweets]

Davido and other indigenes of Osun state have accused Governor Oyetola of killing a protester. They alleged an officer in his convey shot a protester dead. 

The singer and other Osun protesters took to twitter to call out the Governor.

Lilian Afegbai breaks silence, my mom killed no one

Nollywood Actress, Lilian Afegbai has denied the claims that her mother, Carol Onyekachi Afegbai killed Momodu Ibrahim, a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in May 2013.

Nigerians are accusing Carol, a senior police officer of killing Momodu Ibrahim, a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in May 2013.

They also called on the federal government and the Nigeria Police to arrest and probe Carol.

Reacting, Lilian in a post via her Instagram account said her mother who is now retired did not kill anyone.

Nigerian Army to commence Operation Crocodile Smile Nationwide October 20

The Nigerian Army is set to commence its annual military exercise tagged Operation Crocodile Smile nationwide.

According to a press release by the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Col. Sagir Musa, the exercise which is traditionally conducted in the last quarter of the year, will hold this year from October 20 to December 31.

This year’s nationwide operation is however coming at a time Nigerian youths are staging #EndSARS protests around the country to protest police brutality.

He said this year’s exercise, Crocodile Smile VI, is deliberately intended to be all encompassing to include cyber warfare exercises designed to identify, track and counter negative propaganda in the social media and across the cyberspace.

ENDSARS protesters block major entry points into Abuja

Young Nigerians protesting against police brutality (ENDSARS), today blocked major entry points into Abuja.

The demonstrators have occupied the Kubwa and Mararaba highways and rendered all roads within the city centre impassable.

The youth divided themselves into groups to carry out the protest simultaneously at different locations and this has led to traffic snarls across the city. Unfortunate, but ENDSARS now!

#ENDSARS: Falz mocks Melaye, says we will soon face una

Folarin Falana popularly known as Falz has mocked former Senator, Dino Melaye in the wake of the #EndSars protest.

The ex-Senator had tweeted in support of #EndSars protesters, but Falz was fast to correct him saying, he shouldn't act like he is 'one of us' and said the youths would be coming for them soon.

Melaye had said the government had no power to place a ban on protests.

Dolapo Badmus denies being demoted by the Police Force

Former Police Public Relations Officer, Lagos State Command, Dolapo Badmus, has described the reports of her demotion as fake news.

Reports had emerged on Saturday that Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP, Abayomi Shogunle and Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, Dolapo Badmus have been demoted.

Reacting on her Twitter page, Badmus said the reports were fake.

She tweeted, “Ignore Fake News.

“Whoever slotted my name in that list is a joker. I will forever respect people’s human rights, my name will never be put up as one who has violated another’s right.”

Sanwo-Olu visits widow of man shot dead at surulere protest

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu today visited the widow of the man, Okechukwu Iloamuazor who was shot dead during #EndSARS protest in Surulere area of Lagos.

The governor assured the widow, Ngozi, of justice, saying that he had come with the Attorney General, Moyosore Onigbanjo to ensure that the family got justice.

The governor told the Attorney General to take over the case immediately to ensure justice was done.

The governor also visited the home where Okechukwu, 55, worked as a driver to his boss.

Mosun Filani narrates how police allegedly snatched her brother from her with a bullet 10 years ago

Nollywood actress Mosunmola Filani Oduoye has joined others in narrating how policemen allegedly shot and killed a family member.

In Filani’s case, her younger brother, Olatunbosun Filani, was allegedly murdered by police officers in Abeokuta, Ogun state in 2010.

According to Mosunmola, she had to search for his corpse from one mortuary to the other.

After 10 years of his demise, Filani is yet to know what led to his death and who shot him.

#ENDSARS: NHRC names 11-man panel to probe rights violation

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has constituted an 11-man panel to investigate allegations of rights violations by police personnel.

A statement by NHRC’s spokesperson, Fatimah Agwai Mohammed gave the name of the Chairman of the panel as Justice Suleiman Galadima, a retired Justice of the Supreme Court.

Other members include a former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim Lamorde (now a Deputy Inspector General – DIG); Abdulrahaman Yakubu; Yemi Ademolakun; Chioma Chuka; Prof. Ayo Atsenuwa; Tijani Mohammed; Dr. Uju Agomoh; Dr. Garba Tetengi, (SAN); Feyikemi Abudu; John Aikpokpo Martins and Hilary Ogbonna (as Secretary).

A lady has narrated how Chijioke Iloanya’s father swam in a river of dead bodies to identify his son.

At the candle night demonstration for fallen heroes of the #EndSARS protest, a lady recounted how Chijioka was arrested SARS. 

She said: “Chijioke was 20 years old in 2012, he went for child dedication and was picked up there and was allegedly taken to SARS office.

“When his family went to look for him, they were told he has been taken to the headquarters. When they got there, His mother spotted him being taken to the station and she said that is my child.

Nollywood Actress, Lilian Afegbai and her mother, Carol Onyekachi Afegbai, are been dragged on social media.

This comes after teh actress joined the pritest yesterday demanding an end to SARS.

Soon as her photos hit the internet, Nigerians asked if her mother was Carol Afebai, then told her she can''t be protesting if her mom is actually a 'killer'.

Many tweets pointed accusing fingers at her mom saying she allegedly killed Momodu Ibrahim, a student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN) in 2013.

Big Brother Naija finalist, Rebecca Nengi Hampson, has opened on her relationship with men in the lockdown house.

Speaking in an interview, Nengi revealed that she had her reason for not sleeping on any man’s bed regardless of their closeness.

The former beauty queen who hails from Bayelsa State stated that although she was very close to some of the guys in the lockdown house like Ozo, she set boundaries right from the start of the reality show and according to her, she wanted too correct a misconception many had about her.

ASUU denies suspending seven- month strike, says it's still on

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has denied the report that it suspended its seven-month old ongoing strike, after meeting Federal Government on Thursday.

According to the union, the said report is a blatant falsehood.

The union said its negotiations with the federal government officials over all their differences with a view to finding a workable solution for normalcy to return to the nation’s public university were still ongoing in Abuja, the federal capital territory.

In addition, the union said reports on social media platforms that the Federal Government had released N30 billion for Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) is not also true and therefore should be disregarded by the public.

Delta women protest against Regina Daniels' husband, Ned Nwoko for forcefully taking over their lands

Women of Idumuje-Ugboko community under Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday protested against Nigerian billionaire and former federal lawmakers, Ned Nwoko, accusing him of tormenting indigenes and incarcerating their husbands, relatives and sons.

Nwoko is being accused of forcefully taking over several hectares of land belonging to members of the community.

The protesting women of various ages under the umbrella of Concerned Women of Idumuje-Ugboko, were armed with placards bearing different inscriptions while storming the Delta State Government House, Asaba, the capital, to register their grievances.

Mourinho shades Arsene Wenger again over his autobiography

Jose Mourinho has again thrown a subtle jibe at former Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger. He said the French manager did not mention him in his autobiography “because he never beat me”.

Wenger earlier in the week released a new autobiography called, ‘My Life in Red and White’, but the exclusion of his former foe, Mourinho, has not gone unnoticed.

#EndSARS protesters uproot Ekiti State House of Assembly signpost after Governor's aides allegedly shouted at them [photos]

#EndSARS protesters yesterday uprooted the signpost of the Ekiti State House of Assembly while they protested.

Peaceful protest has held daily in different parts of the country as Nigerians continue to demand action in an end to police brutality./

Similarly, aggrieved youths in Ado Ekiti staged a protest at the house of assembly in the state, where the state signpost was removed.

Okay! CBN denies its official website was not hacked

The Central Bank of Nigeria has denied reports that its website was hacked on Friday.

The apex bank in a statement on its Twitter page maintained that contrary to reports, its website was safe.

The statement reads, “Contrary to claims on social media alleging that the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria has been breached by malicious persons, we wish to state categorically that our website is secure.

“We also wish to advise the online community to desist from peddling fake news aimed at undermining the integrity of the CBN, which is our collective asset.”

Covid-19 cases increases in Lagos and Oyo state

Nigeria saw increasing Covid-19 cases on Friday with Lagos and Oyo States recording more than half of the infections.

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, releases 212 new cases of Coronavirus in the country, with Lagos raking in 85 cases while Oyo posted 72 new cases.

So far, Nigeria has 61,194 confirmed cases of the virus, with 52,304 survivors discharged and  1,119 deaths recorded.

The 212 cases is far higher than the 148 cases recorded in Nigeria on Thursday.

Anonymous hackers shut down CBN's website

Anonymous hacking group has shut down the website of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

It was the third cyber asset of the Nigerian government to be hit by the group, which declared it was sympathising with #EndSARS protesters in Nigeria.

The apex bank website was unreachable on Friday night, as it repeatedly gave ‘server error.”

“500 – Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed”, was the response loggers got.

17 students test positive for covid-19 in Kaduna University

Due to fear of spreading Covid-19 on campus ,the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Kaduna State University (KASU) chapter has cautioned  against the university management’s plan to reopen the school. 

Like other institutions in the state, KASU has been shut for several months due to the Covid-19 pandemic. 

However, ASUU-KASU chapter said it is not yet safe to reopen the institution because of the fear that students might contract the virus as they will mingle freely among themselves during school hours. 

Chairman of ASUU-KASU,Comrade Tukur Abdulkadir said that some weeks ago, 17 out of about 50 Medical students who were recalled for examination tested positive to Covid-19.

According to witnesses, two tankers laden with fuel exploded early hours of today (Saturday).

The number of casualties is still uncertain.

WTO: Iweala speaks on having the backing of 79 countries

Former Finance Minister, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Friday assessed her chances in the forthcoming election of director general of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) and said things were looking bright for her.

Okonjo-Iweala claimed to have the backing of 79 of the 164 members of the WTO including the African Union (AU) .

“I feel the wind behind my back,” she said during a virtual press briefing.

She is locked in the contest with Yoo Myung-hee of South Korea.

''We could have moved faster, for this we are sorry'', Osinbajo apologises to Nigerian youths

Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo has apologised to Nigerian youths as the  #ENDSARS, #ENDSWAT protests continues across the Nation.

The Vice-President tendered his apologises in a series of tweets while acknowledging the brutality of some members of the now disestablished Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the police, which he described as unacceptable. 

His tweet started thus: “Dear Nigerians, I know that many of you are angry, and understandably so. We could’ve moved faster and for this we are sorry.

“I fully understand how many young people feel. Many feel that we have been too silent and have simply not done enough. These feelings of frustration are justified.

Candle night organised across the Nation for victims of police brutality by #EndSARS protesters

As the heat of the #EndSARS #EndSWAT protests continue to spread across the length and breadth of Nigeria, protesting youths have organised a candle night procession for fallen heroes.

Several lives have been lost in the course of making their voices heard during these protests.

Some who also lost their lives to police brutality, before the protests were also celebrated.

End SARS: 37 officers to be sacked, 24 set for prosecution

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has penciled down 37 former operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS), to be dismissed from service.

PSC will also order the prosecution of 24 other ex-operatives for various acts of professional misconduct.

These were the highlights of the Report of the Presidential Panel on Reform of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad set up by the Federal Government in 2018.

Presenting the report to the PSC Chairman, Musiliu Smith, in Abuja on Friday, the Executive Secretary of the National Human Rights Commission, Tony Ojukwu, called for a speedy implementation of the panel recommendations.

One dead as driver rams car into Ondo #EndSARS protesters

A car rammed into #EndSARS protesters in Ondo State, killing one person and injuring three others.

It was gathered that the incident happened in front of the Ondo State Governor’s Office, in the Alagbaka area of Akure on Thursday.

The accident involved a Toyota Camry with a number plate, LND 778 GL, and two commercial motorcycles.

One of the victims was said to have died on the spot while others were rushed to the hospital.

Just In: 181 students, staff test positive in Lagos school

One hundred and eighty one students and staff of a private boarding school in Lekki, Lagos have tested positive for coronavirus.

Lagos Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, said the cases were discovered during surveillance and case investigation in the school.

Giving details of the investigation, Abayomi explained that a 14-year-old SS1 female student fell ill on October 3 and was sent home after receiving first aid at the school.

He added the student subsequently tested positive on October 6 in one of the accredited private labs in Lagos.

Gunman 'shouting Allahu Akbar' BEHEADS Paris teacher who had shown cartoons of Prophet Mohammed to pupils

A parent shouting Allahu Akbar and thought to be wearing an explosive vest has been shot dead by French police near Paris after allegedly beheading a school teacher with a knife.

The victim was said to have been a school teacher who had enraged parents by displaying cartoons of the Prophet Mohammed to pupils.

A source told Le Parisien: ‘The victim had recently given a lesson to his students on freedom of expression and had shown the caricatures of Muhammad’.

This led to an enraged parent confronting the teacher with a kitchen knife, and then cutting his head off, said the source.

#EndSARS protesters highlight 7 demands for Buhari

Nigerian youths, particularly the ones agitating for an end to police brutality, corruption and impunity, have highlighted a seven-point demand that must be met by the Presidency.

The list surpasses the former #5for5 demands, that was earlier submitted.

Over 13,000 youths have signed a petition on a website (www.change.org) that advocates and empowers citizens from around the world to demand civic rights.

In the new #7for7 list, the protesters demand institutional reforms, cost of governance, constitutional reforms, education reforms, health reforms, youth affairs and public office reforms.

#EndSARS: Tiwa Savage appeals to Beyonce to lend support

Tiwa Savage has called on American music icon Beyonce to lend her voice to the ongoing #EndSARS protests in Nigeria.

Savage, in an Instagram live session, spoke about the state of the nation and the ongoing agitation for an end to police brutality. “Nigeria is bad,” she began in a pensive mood. Then she went on to talk about the virtues and thriving spirit of Nigerians in spite of the bad state of the nation. She also called out privileged Nigerians who feel the protests does not concern them.

Tiwa Savage then proceeded to appeal to Beyonce, who recently received praises across the globe for portraying Africa in good light with her visual album, “Black Is King”.

Falz, Abah, others back out of town hall meeting with FG

As the agitation against police brutality, extortion, harassment and extrajudicial killing of Nigerians continues, hip-hop star, Falz and public policy expert Dr Joe Abah has backed out of a town hall meeting set up by the government.

The town hall meeting, organised by the Ministry of Youth and Sports, was to discuss and recommend solutions to the country’s policy system and a reform of the Nigeria Police Force.

“I will not be on this panel,” Falz tweeted on Friday. “I was given false information. Plus there is no need for all this, please!! The agenda is clear #5for5 #SARSMUSTEND.”

Abah announced his withdrawal from the visual event after Falz said he would no longer participate.

Just in: Awolowo's daughter, Mrs Oyediran is dead

Rev. Tola Oyediran, the eldest child of late Western Region Premier, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, is dead.

She passed on around noon today, October 16, 2020 at 79 years.

She was billed to celebrate her 80th birthday on December 1.

Until her death, she was the Chairman, Board of Directors of African Newspapers of Nigeria ( ANN) publishers of Tribune titles.

It was learnt she was hale and hearty as at last night.


Just in: Hoodlums kill two #ENDSARS protesters in Edo, Governor Obaseki kicks

Hoodlums today killed two #EndSARS protesters in Benin, the Edo State capital.

One of the male victims was shot dead while the other was macheted by hoodlums at Ring Road near the palace of the Oba of Benin.

It was learnt the protesters had converged on Ring Road, when hoodlums, who accused the protesters of preventing them from making money from daily issuance of tickets to commercial drivers, swooped on them with guns and machetes.

They dispersed the protesters after killing two of them.

#EndSARS protesters reject food donated by MC Oluomo

#EndSARS protesters at the Lagos State House of Assembly today rejected food and soft drinks sent by the Chairman of the National Union of the Road Transport Workers in the state, Musiliu Akinsanya aka MC Oluomo.

The rejection was in reaction to an attack unleashed on the protesters by thugs at Ikeja, on wednesday and thursday.

MC Oluomo was accused to have been the sponsor of the violent attack but he has denied the allegation.

#EndSARS: Protesters observe Juma’at at Lekki toll gate, Lagos Assembly road

#EndSARS protesters who are Muslims today observed their Juma’at prayers at Lekki toll gate and Lagos State House of Assembly road, Alausa respectively.

The protesters also observed the Friday prayers on the road in Abuja.

At the Juma’at service held at Governor’s road in Alausa, some Christian protesters watched on while others provided cover for the praying Muslims.

During the prayer session, other protest activities were suspended.

Senate seeks Pakistan’s support in building defence industry

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan has urged Pakistan to assist Nigeria in the capacity building of her Defence Industry.

According to a statement by the Special Adviser on Media to President of the Senate, Ola Awoniyi, Lawan made the appeal on Friday while receiving in audience a delegation of the Senate of Pakistan.

The Senate President thanked Pakistan for its assistance in the area of training and supply of weapons to the Nigeria Armed Forces to fight insurgency and other security challenges.

“But one area that I think we need to sustain collaboration and partnership is in the area of helping Nigeria to build our Defence Industry.

EndSARS: "My wife is protesting, I earn N64,000 monthly after 14 years in service" – Policeman

A policeman has disclosed that his wife is taking part in the EndSARS protests.

In an interview with DailyPost, he expressed sadness at the state of the Nigeria Police.

The citizen, a Sergeant, said he joined the Force in 2006.

He had his first child in 2017 and now has four kids.

Four corpers die in course of serving, as 16 get extension

Four members of the National Youths Service Corps, who served in Ondo and Osun states, lost their lives in the course of serving their fatherland.

Also, at least 15 corps members in the two states had their service year extended for violating the rules of engagement.

Three corps members in Ondo State lost their service year, while nine others were not given their certificates of national service on Thursday as they were punished for various offences committed during the service year.

The Ondo State Coordinator, NYSC, Mrs Grace Akpabio, stated this at the passing out ceremony for the 2019 Batch ‘C’ (Stream 1) corps members held in Akure.

‘Forgive my wrongdoings’,Daddy Freeze begs as he praises Pastor Adeboye for endorsing #EndSARS protest

Daddy Freeze has clapped for Pastor EA Adeboye, the founder and leader of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, for endorsing the EndSars protest against police brutality.

On Facebook live, Daddy Freeze said that Adeboye’s behavior is a good development that will encourage protesters as religious leaders support their call.

He said the endorsement will encourage his church members to support the movement.

A retired Commissioner of Police, Fulani Kwajafa, has expressed regrets for establishing the Special Anti-Robbery Squad of the Nigeria Police Force.

The excesses of the unit notorious for human rights violation has sparked protests across Nigeria for over one week now with demonstators demanding a reform of the entire police system.

Kwajafa while speaking in an interview with BBC Hausa said the unit had completey derailed from its founding objectives.'

He said, “My name is Fulani Kwajafa. I entered the Nigeria Police Force in 1984. Then robbery was prevalent, this was why Buhari was Head of State. He (Buhari) got a lot of complaint that people were stealing from each other, robbing people — he told me and Mr Inyang, the then IGP, that we must do something about it or be fired.

Police accused of plotting to bury Ogbomoso #EndSARS victims without autopsy

Two families who lost their loved ones after police officers allegedly fired live ammunition to #EndSARS protesters in Ogbomoso on Sunday have come under unbridled police intimidation, according to People's Gazette.

The online news outlet reported that the police leadership stepped in after Taiwo Adeoye and Moshood' Akeju' Abdulganiu were killed by officers, prevailing on their families not to pursue an investigation into the killings.

Babalola Sarafa, a police superintendent and divisional police officer in Ogbomoso, successfully hustled the families into swearing affidavits, rejecting an autopsy on the victims and demanding their immediate burial.
