Instagram comedian and actor, Williams Uchemba is engaged. 

He made the announcement today on his Instagram page saying he won an Oscar.

He stated that his major prayer point has been for him to have a life and destiny partner that can understand him and he got exactly that and more.

He ended his post by saying he has got a wedding to plan.

A Florida man was left with his scalp hanging off after paying $150 for a "full contact experience" with a black leopard.

Dwight Turner is suing "real estate investment expert and exotic animal breeder" Michael Poggi after claiming he was mauled inside an enclosure built behind his home.

According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission the attack occurred on August 31.

In its report, they say the 50-year-old was charged the sum to enter the fully-grown feline's enclosure and "play with it, rub its belly and take pictures."

Sanwo-Olu directs level 12 civil servants, others to resume

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has approved the resumption of all civil servants on salary grade 1 to 12.

This was contained in a circular by the Head of Service, Hakeem Muri-Okunola, on Saturday.

In the circular with Ref. No: CIR/HOS/20/Vol.1/115, the civil servants were asked to resume on Monday, November 2, 2020.

Civil servants on grade level 12 and below had been asked to work from home since March in a bid to curb the spread of Covid-19 in the state.

Trump hails US Forces who rescued American in Nigeria

US president, Donald Trump, has hailed the courageous soldiers who rescued an American hostage in Nigeria today.

Philip Walton, 27, was seized by armed bandits on Monday, October 26.

Walton was moved to a location in northern Nigeria where he was held.

The Pentagon has confirmed that the operation was executed on Saturday.

Covid-19: Italian club, Lazio puts entire squad on quarantine

Lazio announced earlier on Saturday that their entire first-team squad would be on quarantine after a Covid-19 outbreak within the club.

The Rome-based club, which finished fourth in the Serie A standings last season, made the announcement before its scheduled league match at Torino. However, they did not reveal the players who have been infected with the novel coronavirus, but it suggested that it still expects Sunday’s game to go ahead as planned.

“Some members of the team group tested positive,” the news release read. “The whole team will repeat today’s checks in order to identify the players that can be used in tomorrow’s match between Torino and Lazio.”

#EndSARS: Ketu Local Government council unveils N10m relief fund for those who lost their businesses to violence

The Agboyi-Ketu Local Council Development Area (LCDA) in Lagos on Saturday unveiled a N10 million relief fund for victims of violence and looting that trailed #EndSARS protest in the area.

The Council Chairman, Mr Dele Oshinowo, in a statement on Saturday, said it had become imperative to assist some victims of looting and destruction in the aftermath of the protest in the area.

“As part of commitment of the Mayor Dele Oshinowo administration to release N10 million for victims of looting and vandalised property due to the recent widespread turmoil, today, Agboyi-Ketu LCDA unveiled a nine-man committee.

“The committee would activate efforts towards developing a strategy to ensure an instant recovery for victims.

A Couple who were tortured and lost two pregnancies, have narrated their ordeal with the SARS, to the Lagos State Judicial Panel on Restitution for Victims of Special Anti-Robbery Squad SARS Related Abuses and other Matters.

The couple Mr Okuchukwu Obiechina and Mrs Ndubisi Obiechina told the nine-panel that they were awarded N2million, against SARS, by the Federal High court sitting in Lagos, but that it was dismissed by the court of appeal.

Narrating their ordeal in the hands of SARS, Mrs Nububisi Obiechina, a teacher, said they were arrested on June 2, 2017, and were detained for 22 days, in SARS custody.

James Bond actor, Sean Connery, dies aged 90

Legendary British actor Sean Connery, best known for playing fictional spy James Bond in seven films, has died aged 90, his family told the BBC on Saturday.

The Scottish actor, who was knighted in 2000, won numerous awards during his decades-spanning career, including an Oscar, three Golden Globes and two Bafta awards.

Tributes immediately began pouring in for Connery who was considered one of the greatest movie stars of his generation.

“How infinitely sad to hear the news Sir Sean Connery has passed away,” stated a message on the Twitter account maintained for fellow Bond actor Roger Moore who died in 2017.

U.S. commandos raid bandits camp in Nigeria to rescue American, Philip Walton

An American, Philip Walton, who was abducted on the 26th of October by suspected bandits in a village in Niger, close to Nigeria has been rescued. 

The US military rescued Walton during a high-risk U.S. military raid in Nigeria.

Officials told ABC News early Saturday that the counter-terrorism mission was undertaken by elite commandos as part of a major effort to free the 27-year-old U.S. citizen before his abductors could get far after taking him captive in Niger.

According to report, the operation involved the governments of the U.S., Niger and Nigeria working together to rescue Walton quickly.

Kidnapped Oyo Local Government Chairman regains freedom

The caretaker chairman of Iganna Local Council Development Area of Oyo State, Mr Olayiwola Adeleke, has regained freedom.

Adeleke was freed with his driver who was also kidnapped last week.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, Mr Olugbenga Fadeyi, has confirmed the development.

He said, “They have been released and they have reunited with their families. They were freed on Friday night.”

Nigeria records 170 new coronavirus infections, three deaths

Nigeria, on Friday, confirmed 170 new COVID-19 infections, bringing the total cases registered in the country since the outbreak of the pandemic to 62,691, according to Nigerian health authorities.

It is now the 13th consecutive week that Nigeria’s COVID-19 daily infections have fallen below 300.

Meanwhile, three deaths from the coronavirus were registered on Friday, raising the death toll to 1,144, according to an update by the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC.

Over the past two weeks, COVID-19-related daily fatalities in Nigeria have been lower than 10.

The 170 new cases are reported from 11 states- Lagos (106), FCT (25), Oyo (14), Edo (7), Kaduna (7), Ogun (4), Bauchi (2), Benue (2), Kano (1), Osun (1), Rivers (1).

Rare parasites which can cause human miscarriages now found in donkeys

Rare parasites which can cause human miscarriages have been found in donkeys, it has been claimed.

Scientists in Israel reportedly believe the animal carries Toxoplasma gondii and Neospora, major pathogenic parasites that can have a detrimental impact on pregnant women.

They can infect multiple animal species, forming tissue cysts and may cause miscarriages as well as neurological disease, according to a report published on website Horsetalk.

Both types of parasite have been reported in the wild as well as domestic animals in the Middle Eastern country.

COCIN pastor released after 12 days in Boko Haram captivity

A pastor with the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN) in Jos, Plateau State, has been released from the captivity of Boko Haram.

The pastor, Rev. Polycarp Zango, was abducted by the terrorist group on October 19, while on a journey to a Ministers’ conference in Gombe.

The terrorist group earlier  released a video showing the COCIN pastor in their custody.

Speaking exclusively with Vanguard on Saturday morning, the Vice-Chairman, Christian Association of Nigeria (Northern region), Rev. John Hayab, said Zango regained his freedom on Friday night.

Fire guts petrol tanker in front of Ogun Governor’s office

A truck loaded with about 50,000 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) has caught fire in front of the Governor’s Office, Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Saturday.

The tanker was coming from Forte Oil, Ijora and was enroute Mobil, Adatan, in Abeokuta metropolis.

The driver, Nurudeen Yusuf, told newsmen that he, alongside his two motor boys discovered a spark from the engine, which resulted in the fire outbreak.

As the truck went up in flames, firefighters raced to the scene to put out the fire, thereby averting what could have been a disaster, it was learnt.

The suspect allegedly attacked the BDC last week.

He is in detention pending the conclusion of investigation.

Canada to bring in over 1.2m immigrants in 3 years

Justin Trudeau, Prime Minister of Canada, has revealed plans to bring in over 1.2 million new immigrants over the next three years.

Marco Mendicino, the Immigration Minister, disclosed this while unveiling what he termed an “ambitious” three-year immigration plan that set targets for bringing skilled workers, family members and refugees into Canada.

Mendicino while speaking to reporters in Ottawa on Friday, October 30, 2020, said the Canadian government aims to accept 401,000 new permanent residents in 2021, another 411,000 in 2022 and then 421,000 in 2023.

According to him, Canada needs more workers “and immigration is the way to get there”.

The management of the Lekki Concession Company, LCC has revealed its willingness to cooperate with the Lagos Judicial panel by showing the footage of events that surrounded the Lekki toll gate shootings on October 20, 2020.

Mr Gbolahan Agboluwaje, the Head of the Legal Department of LCC, made the revelation after Mr Abayomi Omomuwa, the Managing Director of LCC had been sworn-in to give evidence before the panel of the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry for Restitution for Victims of SARS and related abuses and Other Matters.

According to Agboluwaje, there are hours of recordings on the CCTV footage.

Agboluwaje said that the LCC received a summons from the panel on Wednesday, Oct. 28, to appear before it and was also ordered to present the Oct. 20 footage, an investigation report and any other document.

England’s World Cup-winning midfielder Nobby Stiles, aka “Toothless Tiger”, has died after a long battle with illness, his family said on Friday.

He died at the age of 78.

The former Manchester United player was an uncompromising competitor who won 28 caps for England, lifting the FIFA World Cup in 1966.

He provided one of that final’s most iconic images as he danced around the Wembley pitch after the hosts beat West Germany.

Buhari meets European Council President over Okonjo-Iweala

President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, held a virtual meeting with the President of the European Council, Charles Michel, over the candidature of Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala as the next Director-General of the World Trade Organisation.

Mrs Okonjo-Iweala, Nigeria’s former finance minister, is the leading candidate for the position. But her candidature is being opposed by the U.S. which is supporting her South Korean opponent.

Mrs Okonjo-Iweala already secured the backing of most countries including blocs like the European Union and the African Union.

The U.S. is the one blocking Mrs Okonjo-Iweala from being adopted as a consensus winner of the election, with an announcement on the winner next month.

Some of his fans said they were expecting something more classy but he made 14 songs that are not up to standard.

One even asked him to quit music, another said he is no longer a fan.

The Trash word trended for long as many discussed the album.

The Lagos State judicial panel of inquiry into brutality and high handedness by the now-disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) is currently at the Lekki Toll Gate.

The panel is at the scene for inspection and to make more findings concerning the shooting which occurred on October 20, 2020.

Led by the Chairman, Retired Justice Doris Okuwobi, the panel is interrogating Lekki Tollgate officials about the condition of their cameras and other equipment.

Dozens of North Korean soldiers are blown up while laying landmines at the Chinese border to stop detectors from fleeing

Dozens of North Korean soldiers have been injured by exploding landmines which they were laying on the border with China, a source in the country has said.

The explosion happened while the border guard troops were burying the mines to stop people defecting from North Korea.

A North Korean resident said Kim Jong Un's military authorities 'did not provide sufficient training to the soldiers who were laying the mines'.

Most people fleeing the North escape via China rather than risking the heavily fortified DMZ that leads to South Korea, but both Pyongyang and Beijing have been cracking down on border crossings in recent years.

Nigerian selected for UN woman police officer of the year award

CSP Catherine Ugorji of the Nigerian police and serving with the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilisation Mission in Mali (MINUSMA), has been selected by the UN as one of two runners-up for the prestigious UN Woman Police Officer of the Year award for 2020.

According to the National Information Officer of the UN System in Nigeria, Oluseyi Soremekun, UN Police Officer Ugorji exemplifies the best of UN policing through both her words and actions.Of the 1,300 UN policewomen deployed in UN peacekeeping operations, twenty-one were nominated for the award.

Ugorji joined the Nigerian Police in 2003 and served as Criminal Investigator from the local to regional level, Child Protection Officer, Divisional Crime Officer up to Acting Deputy Commander of the Ogudu Police Division in Lagos.

IGP Adamu tells policemen to defend themselves in the face of physical danger

The Inspector General of Police, IGP, Mohammed Adamu has told policemen to defend themselves in the face of physical danger, saying they are also human whose lives must be protected.

Adamu, spoke on Friday during an assessment tour of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command.

He said the unity of this country lies in the support that is given to police officers.

He said if the police are demoralised, the tendency was for criminals to take over the public space.

He said the country relies on policemen to make sure that the public space is not taken over by the criminals.

Sanwo-Olu announces further relaxation of curfew in Lagos

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has announced further relaxation of the curfew imposed after the breakdown of law and order, following hijack of peaceful #EndSARS protests.

The curfew will now be from 10pm till 6am.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso said Sanwo-Olu praised Lagosians for observing the curfew, which is expected to restore normalcy in various communities.

“He urges all Lagosians to go about their businesses in peace, even as they shun ‘actions that can threaten our unity’.
