FRSC orders operatives to impound commercial vehicles without speed limit devices, arrest drivers without licence..
Worried by the increasing rate of fatal road crashes across the country, the Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, (FRSC), Dr. Boboye Oyeyemi has directed his personnel to clamp down on drivers who do not install speed limiting devices alongside those without a valid license.
The Corps Marshal gave the order in a statement signed and issued on Sunday by the Corps’ Public Education Officer, Assistant Corps Marshal Bisi Kazeem.
The statement noted that the motive is to restore sanity to the nation’s highways following rising cases of fatalities caused by overspeeding and unlicensed drivers.
“This is unacceptable to the FRSC management as a decision has been taken to clamp down on such recalcitrant violators who must be subjected to the fullest sanctions provided by law to serve as deterrence for others”, the statement said.
The statement further noted that records of road traffic crash across the country as collated by the Corps since the beginning of the year indicated that over 50% of such crashes were attributed to speed violations, saying during clampdown operations, all motorists found to have violated the rules would be subjected to the fullest sanctions as provided by the law.
It also stated that in the course of the special operations, drivers that are caught with fake expired or forged driver’s licences would have their vehicles impounded to the offices until they have taken appropriate measures necessary for acquiring the licences.
“No offenders would be spared as Commanding Officers have been given the mandate by the Corps Marshal to act decisively on them with renewed vigour”, it warned.
