Gunmen on Tuesday opened fire on people at the Anara Market in the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, killing four persons.

While three persons reportedly died on the spot, the fourth victim was rushed to a hospital where he died.

Our correspondent, who visited the scene on Wednesday, learnt that the hoodlums operated from a white Sienna minibus.

An eyewitness, who asked not to be identified, said the suspects opened fire on people at the spot where a woman sold food.

“They didn’t even come down. They just opened fire in that direction and kept shooting as they drove past.

“Nobody knows the reason for the shooting. It has never happened here before. One of the victims was a motorcyclist who came to eat. He was from a neighbouring community here. You can see that this whole place is deserted. Many people ran away,” he added.
