Unidentified assailants have murdered a popular Efik Master of Ceremonies and radio presenter, Itiat Zion in Calabar, the Cross River state capital.
CrossRiverWatch reported that Zion was killed close to a popular hotel on the Murtala Mohammed highway on 6 November.
His assailants attacked him as he waited by the roadside to get a vehicle back home.
“The boys just came out from a vehicle and butchered him to death” CRW reported.
His colleague and popular Efik MC, Koko Dear, suggested that Zion’s murder might be a case of mistaken identity.
Zion, together with Koko Dear and others presented a popular Efik program, “Uwem Ye Ido” on FAD 93.1 FM Calabar.
Grieving messages have been pouring in from friends and fans on social media for Zion, since the brutal murder.
Esther Emmanuel Effiong, who described Zion as her boss wrote on Facebook: ‘Can’t believe my boss is gone, my heart is heavy, my eyes are filled with liquid. D only man dat keeps telling me don’t envy anyone, work for one day your good works will pay . He’s gone just like that. I can’t stop crying … Will forever miss you, Sir Itiat Zion’.
An outraged kelvin Boco wrote: “ITIAT ZION YOUR KILLERS WOULD NEVER NEVER GO UNPUNISHED. CHAIII LIFE LIKE A SMOKE WHEN YOU SEE IT B4 YOU KNOW IT QUENCHED. MAY YOUR GENTLE SOUL R. I. P”.
