Police storm Lagos expensive party, sends away guests, arrest organizers [photos]

Hundreds of Lagos party goers were sent out as they revelled on Saturday.

Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, and scores of operatives stormed FM Mogame Event Center at Joel Ogunnaike Street, Ikeja.

CSP Muyiwa Adejobi, Public Relations Officer of the Lagos Police Command, said Odumosu shut down the location.

The spokesman said the facility and organizers flouted the Covid-19 rules.

Twitter CEO Dorsey, Jay-Z establish bitcoin endowment fund

Twitter chief Jack Dorsey has said he and rap mogul Jay-Z are creating a fund devoted to making bitcoin digital money “the internet’s currency.”

Dorsey, who is also founder and chief of financial services and mobile payments firm Square, said in a tweet that he and Jay-Z are giving 500 bitcoin to fund an independent endowment called “Btrust.”

That amount of the cryptocurrency was worth about $24 million on Friday.

“It will be set up as a blind irrevocable trust, taking zero direction from us,” Dorsey said, adding that the fund would initially focus on bitcoin development teams in Africa and India.

Evangelist Mike Bamiloye has described February 14 which is Valentine’s Day as a day of death, stressing that many will slaughter their destinies on the bed of lustful pleasure.

Ambode makes first public appearance since 2019 [photos]

A former governor of Lagos state, Akinwunmi Ambode, on Saturday revalidated his membership of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

This is the former governor’s first public appearance since 2019.

Since handing over to Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the governor of Lagos state on May 28, 2019, he has not been seen publicly participating in the party’s activities.

S.e.x worker allegedly kills customer in Imo hotel

Tragedy has befallen a man, name withheld, who lost his life in the hands of a commercial s.e.x worker in one of the hotels in Owerri, the Imo state capital.

Daily Post gathered that the prostitute was enraged when her customer refused to pay her the agreed amount after going several rounds of sexual intercourse which prompted her to stab the man to death.

The victim lodged in the hotel after a late night with the lady and was found dead in the morning after several knocks at his room by the staff of the hotel.

An insider said the s.e.x worker who killed his client disappeared into the thin air in the early hours of Friday without being noticed by the management.

Lagos CP orders release of End SARS protesters

The Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Hakeem Odumosu has ordered the immediate release of End SARS protesters.

Recall the protesters alongside Instagram comedian, Mr Macaroni were arrested at the Lekki toll gate on Saturday morning.

The suspects were detained at Area J police command, Elemoro, Ibeju Lekki.

Court orders paternity test for Ronke Odusanya's daughter as relationship with partner gets messier

A Magistrates Court in Lagos State has ordered that a DNA paternity test be conducted on the daughter of  Yoruba movie star, Ronke Odusanya.

M. O. Tanimola, the magistrate, gave the order during the week when the case was brought before her at Court 8, Samuel Ilori Court House, Ogba, Ikeja magisterial district, Lagos.

The estranged lovers welcomed their daughter in 2019.

The curvy actress and the father of her child, Olanrewaju Saheed, popularly known as Jago, are currently in court for several reasons including the welfare of their daughter, Oluwafifehanmi.

Former presidential aspirant, Adamu Garba, has urged the men of the Nigeria Police Force to release all protesters arrested on Saturday at the Lekki Tollgate in Lagos State.

Garba, who said it was better to have peaceful protesters than AK-47-wielding bandits, stressed that the arrested #OccupyLekki protesters have the right to seek justice for all victims of the October 20, 2020 incident which eyewitnesses claimed security forces opened fire on #EndSARS protesters.

He tweeted, “In as much as the #EndSARS protesters are not blocking the way for other citizens to move along the #Lekkitollgate, the law permits them the right to peaceful protest. After all, that is a tenet of democracy which we practice. All arrested protesters should be released immediately.”

Again, NDLEA uncovers warehouse of illicit cannabis sativa

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has again uncovered a warehouse of illicit cannabis sativa in the suburb of Guma local government area and intercepted a truckload of the same illicit drug both in Benue state.

Recall that the agency last week arrested seven drug barons operating four large warehouses in Ukpuje forest, Owan local government area of Edo State, where a total of 16,344 bags of cannabis and seeds weighing 233, 778 kilogram were seized, in addition to two pump-action and one double-barrel guns.

The estimated street value of the seized illicit drug was put at over N1.4 billion.

Giving a breakdown of the Benue drug seizure while briefing the Chairman/Chief Executive of the anti-drug agency, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa, on Friday, February 12, 2021, the State Commander of NDLEA, Mrs. Florence Ezeonye, said the total number of bags of cannabis seized during the operation weighs 1,578 kilogram.

Goods worth millions destroyed as fire guts Bauchi plaza

Good worth millions of naira were destroyed in the early hours of Saturday as fire gutted Bababa Shopping Plaza, located inside the popular Wunti Market in Bauchi metropolis.

The fire incident started on the top floor of the one-storey plaza at about 12:45am.

Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Bauchi State Fire Service, Abubakar Babanyaya Bala, disclosed that preliminary investigation revealed that the fire outbreak occurred as a result of power surge in one of the over 100 shops.

According to Bala, as of the time traders were closing on Friday, there was no power supply to the plaza, adding that the power surge leading to the fire outbreak happened when public power was restored.

Makinde shuts Shasha market indefinitely, imposes curfew

Oyo state government has imposed 24-hour curfew on Shasha market.

The market has also been ordered shut down indefinitely.

The decision, according to Governor Seyi Makinde, follows the continued killings and destruction of property in the market.

The Chief Press Secretary to Governor Makinde, Taiwo Adisa confirmed the development on Saturday.

NANS gets compensations for families of varsity students killed by Dangote Truck

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has secured commitment from Dangote company for compensations for the students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA), Ondo State, killed during a road mishap.

Six students of the university and nine others were killed on January 23, 2021, when a truck belonging to Dangote Group rammed into a shopping complex in Akungba Akoko.

Shortly after that incident, the National President of NANS, Com. Sunday Asefon had promised to seek justice for the victims, assuring that their deaths would not be in vain.

Asefon in a statement entitled: “Our Colleagues Must Get Justice”, in Ado Ekiti, on Saturday, said the compensation pact was reached with Dangote group after a meeting with the management of the conglomerate, on Thursday.

Government does not want peace – Falz reacts to arrests

Nigerian rapper, Folarin Falana ‘Falz’ has slammed the Nigerian government over the arrest of Mr Macaroni and other #EndSARS protesters at Lekki tollgate today.

Macaroni was arrested alongside some protesters at the Lekki toll gate.

Falz, reacting, described the arrest as a shameful behaviour and oppression of Nigerians.

According to him, the Nigerian government had shown they don’t want peace by using threat on citizens.

On his Twitter page, he wrote: “What is this shameful behaviour? Are these people insane? Citizens are peacefully protesting and you are arresting.

Lekki tollgate: Peaceful protest is our right – Charly Boy supports End SARS protesters

Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy, has said Nigerian youths have every right to protest at the Lekki toll gate.

Charly boy, on his Twitter page, joined in condemning the reopening of the toll gate, even as he insists Nigerians have right to protest and should not be stopped.

His tweet read, “I know these animals have turned Nigeria into a Jungle but peaceful protest is still our human right. Animals cannot dash us human right. Say no to #lekkitollgate reopening.

Popular comedian Debo Adebayo aka Mr Macaroni has been picked up by Police operatives at Lekki toll gate.

Macaroni joined the protest against the planned reopening of the Lekki toll gate following alleged killing of protesters on October 20, 2020.

He was seen in a video he posted in a police van.

Woman burns matrimonial house after husband marries second wife

A middle-aged woman from Baraton Location in Kiminini, Trans Nzoia County, Kenya has set her matrimonial house on fire after her husband allegedly married a second wife.

Edina Ng’eno set the house alight at 9:30am when her husband, Elijah Nandwa Lomeni, was at work and their children at school.

K24 Digital understands Edina had been putting up at a friend’s place after falling out with her spouse over his interest in marrying a second wife.

On Wednesday night, Edina spent the night at the pal’s house.

Police beat, arrest 10 #OccupyLekki protesters – Coordinator

No fewer than 10 protesters have been arrested by security operatives at the Lekki toll gate, one of the coordinators of #OccupyLekkiTollgate has said.

Kunle Ajayi told Punch correspondent that the protesters were detained in a black maria and are about to be taken to an unknown location.

“Police have just arrested 10 protesters – Four ladies and six guys. They were beaten mercilessly and injured,” he said.

In a video, one of the arrested protesters said, “We have been arrested. Over ten of us. We are kept in a black maria stationed at the toll gate now.”

Man and his wife escape from hospital, leave behind their newborn child

A middle-aged man from Nyangena Village in Kisii South Kenya has been arrested after he conspired with his wife to escape from hospital, leaving behind their newborn child.

Jacob Onsare’s wife, Victoria Wambui, had just delivered a son on Thursday, though prematurely, when the two escaped from the private medical facility, where the new mother had been admitted to.

Confirming the incident, area chief Edward Moenda suggested the couple could have run away to avoid footing the accrued medical bill.

Onsare was later Thursday arrested and taken to Gesonso Police Station, where he is being detained.

Wambui’s whereabouts remain unclear.

Police DPO shoots Amotekun operative for arresting Fulani herdsmen who destroyed farm in Oyo

The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ile-Igbon Division, Surulere Local Government Area of Ogbomoso in Oyo State, Adepoju Ayodeji, on Friday allegedly shot an operative of Amotekun for arresting Fulani herdsmen who allegedly destroyed a cassava farm.

The Amotekun commandant in the state, Col. Olayanju Olayinka (retd.), who confirmed this to reporters in Ibadan on Friday, said the police boss shot the victim at close range.

SaharaReporters learnt that Amotekun operatives received a distress call from farmers to come and arrest some Fulani herdsmen who had destroyed their farms.

Four reportedly killed as herdsmen attack Ogun communities

There was tension in Ogun State as suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded some villages in Yewa North Local Government area of Ogun State on Friday night.

Four persons were said to have been killed, and many, including children sustained varying degrees of injuries.

The attack came barely 24 hours after many were said to have been killed in Owode Ketu, an incident that was described as a reprisal to the burning of Fulani settlement during the visit of Sunday Igboho to Eggua.

A source told Daily Post's correspondent that the suspected herdsmen stormed Orile-Igbooro to shoot and set houses on fire.

Oyo leads, as Nigeria posts second highest Covid-19 deaths

Nigeria posted its second highest single day COVID-19 deaths on Friday, with Oyo State reporting the highest number of deaths.

According to the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, 24 deaths were recorded on Friday, the second highest in a single day since the pandemic broke in Nigeria in February 2020.

The highest single day deaths was 27, which was reported on January 29, 2021.

Oyo posted 10 COVID-19 deaths, the highest it has recorded in a day since the pandemic broke out. This takes Oyo’s total deaths to 104.

Police arrest vulcanizer for, killing teenager in Yobe

The Police Command in Yobe on Friday said it arrested one Sani Sale, a vulcanizer, for allegedly raping and killing a 15-year-old girl in Gadaka town, Fika Local Government Area of Yobe. 

The Command’s Spokesman, ASP Dungus Abdulkarim, disclosed this in a statement in Damaturu.

He said the incident occurred on February 10 at about 7 am, when Sale, 38, lured the teenager, a bean cake seller, into his residence under the pretext of buying the cake. 

Abdulkarim said Sale assaulted, abducted and r*ped the victim, who was later found dead in the suspect’s residence on February 11.

Truck driver burnt to death in Ogun accident

A tragedy occurred, on Friday, in Atoyo area of Ogun State when a yet-to-be-identified truck driver was roasted to death during an accident involving his truck.

The incident occurred at about 10.45 am, outbound Ijebu-Ode, along Ijebu-Ode/Benin Expressway. According to eyewitnesses’ account, the victim who was the only occupant of the Diesel- laden tanker was driving on top speed when it lost control and fell on its side spilling its content which rapidly spread and travelled into the neighborhood. 

The fire was said to have erupted before the rescue effort could commence.

#OccupyLekkiTollGate: Police take over Lekki Toll [photos]

In what appears to be an attempt to forestall another round of protests in Lagos, armed police officers were on Friday spotted at the Lekki toll gate.

Speaking with SaharaReporters, a source, who works in Lekki confirmed the heavy presence of police at the toll plaza.

Also, a tweet by the Lagos State Police Command II (rrslagos767) on Friday, said it had deployed operatives to the toll gate, Ikoyi, Jakande Roundabout, and Eti Osa areas of the state, led by the head of the Rapid Response Squad, Yinka Egbeyemi. 

The RRS shared pictures from the exercise on Twitter, stating that the show of force was done to deter crime as well as boost the morale of the officers in the areas.

Mum's breast milk 'turned neon green colour after she and baby caught Covid-19'

A new mum has told of her surprise after her breast milk turned neon green in colour after she and her baby girl caught coronavirus.

Anna Cortez said her milk gradually became a lighter shade as she fought off the disease, and when she tested negative for Covid-19 shortly after her milk went back to its normal colour.

A paediatrician, who is also a lactation consultant, assured the mum that her milk was safe, and said the colour change could have been triggered by her natural antibodies that fight infection and protect the baby.

Experts suggested the green colour could have been caused by the mother's diet, but Anna, 23, said there were no changes in her eating habits, and her milk is always white despite eating a lot of greens.

Ex- Oyo Governor, Ladoja and his loyalists set to join APC

A former governor of Oyo State, Senator Rasidi Ladoja, and his supporters in Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) on Friday initiated merger talks with the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2023 general elections.

The meeting, which was held at the Premier Hotel, Mokola, Ibadan, was reportedly approved by Ladoja.

It will be recalled that ZLP, under the leadership of Ladoja, led a coalition of ZLP, PDP, Social Democratic Party (SDP), African Democratic Congress (ADC), and a faction of Alliance for Democracy (AD) that produced the incumbent governor of the state, Engr. Seyi Makinde.

About fifteen hours to the scheduled #OccupyLekkiTollGate protest, Rinu Oduala, youth representative on the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry probing alleged shooting of #EndSARS protesters by soldiers at the Lekki toll gate, has stepped down from the panel. 

Her argument was that the government was using the panel for ‘performative actions’. Disclosing this on her twitter handle, Rinu opined that: “My stand on the reopening of the toll gate is clear; the state government & the private organisation operating the toll have not been cleared of collusion with elements allegedly deployed by the federal government to target citizens on home soil during a time of peace, without provocation. 

“Justice has not been served, and as a representative of the Nigerian citizenry, my only recourse is to stay the course of justice.

Sanwo-Olu storms Vaults and Gardens for Jakande’s burial

The governor of  Lagos State Babjide Sanwo-Olu, his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat were today at the vaults and gardens for the burial of former Lagos Governor, Lateef Jakande who died yesterday at 91.

The Chief Imam of Lagos, Sheikh Suleiman Oluwatoyin Abou-Nolla was also there.

Following the arrival of the Governor, Press men were allegedly denied access to the cemetery.

Earlier, Hamzat had joine dhis family members at his residence this morning for special prayers.

Traders at Shasa market in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital have deserted their shops.Shasa is located in Akinyele local government area of Ibadan.

It was gathered from multiple sources that this was due to the death of a man who was hit by a charm on Thursday.It was learnt that the Yoruba man was yesterday hit with a charm by a yet to be identified man said to be of Hausa origin. 

He died in the early hours of Friday.

The death of the Yoruba man made his colleagues to seek for revenge at the market known for selling and buying tomatoes, pepper and other products from the Northern Nigeria.

23 year-old mum with 11 kids wants dozens more with her wealthy husband

A young mum who already has 11 babies hopes to have dozens more using surrogate mothers.

Christina Ozturk, 23, lives with her millionaire hotel owner husband Galip Ozturk in the coastal town of Batumi in the former Soviet republic of Georgia where the practice is legal.

And after 10 babies, including one that the mum gave birth to naturally, the couple have got the process down to a fine art.

They mentioned on social media they wanted at least 105 but later admitted that number was a joke.

Two killed as herders clash with Amotekun in Ondo

At least two people died on Thursday in a clash between the operatives of the Ondo State Security Network known as Amotekun and armed herders.

The incident occurred at Ago Sanusi, along Ute Road in Owo, headquarters of Owo Local Government Area of the state.

Sources said that the herdsmen had earlier clashed with farmers which led to a “call on Amotekun operatives for intervention”.

Amotekun operatives reportedly got to the scene and were attacked by herdsmen. These led to the death of a farmer and a vigilante.
