BBN Star Erica Nlewedim turned 27 today, March 13, and to mark her day, she was gifted stocks in Amazon, Tesla, Disney, and United Airlines, worth ten thousand dollars.

The certificate of the stocks was presented to Erica by her fans popular called Elites.

In addition to the stocks, The Elite League gifted Erica a star map showing the alignment of the stars on the day she was born.

The Elite League and supporters of Erica Nlewedim also made a donation of N891,000 to her Alma Mata, Command Day Secondary School Ikeja, to foot the WAEC and NECO registration fees of 54 students.

Police officer reportedly snatches another man’s wife, detains son for challenging him

A serving policeman, ASP Danladi Edibo, attached to the anti-cult unit in Enugwu-Ukwu, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, has allegedly handcuffed and detained a 22-year-old man, Mr. Chukwunonso Ikenna Ogbukagu, for disapproving his relationship with his mother, Mrs. Ogbukagu.

Chukwunonso, who revealed this to journalists after he escaped from the unlawful detention, said he visited Nimo, a town in Njikoka LGA to see his mother who recently left his dad to rent a separate house, but noticed that the mother had a male friend who always visited her in the apartment.

“When I demanded from my mother who the man was, I found out it was the same police officer, ASP Danladi who had a problem with my father, who also caused my parents to separate.

Kaduna Abduction: Buhari issues stern warning to bandits

President Muhammadu Buhari has issued a stern warning to terrorists and bandits targeting schools, saying the country will not allow the destruction of the school system.

The president gave the warning in a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, in Abuja on Saturday.

Buhari was reacting to the invasion of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Kaduna, by gunmen on Friday.

He commended the efforts of the Kaduna State government and the early response of the military which led to the rescue of 180 students including eight staff members.

Don’t use force to rescue us, kidnapped forestry college students plead with government

Kidnapped students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization Kaduna, have appealed to the Government not to use force to rescue them as their captors warned that such moves would lead to the killing of all the students.

Benson Emmanuel, one of the students who spoke in a video that went viral on Saturday, said that they were surrounded by the gunmen who threatened that none of them would leave alive once the security agents attempt to rescue them by force.

Emmanuel, who sat on the ground together with the other abductees, both males and females, said they needed urgent help as all of then were faced with health issues.

Okonjo-Iweala lands in Abuja, in first visit as WTO DG

The Director-General of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, has arrived Abuja on her first official visit.

Nasir Sani-Gwarzo, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, was among those who received her at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport on Saturday.

Okonjo-Iweala told reporters in Abuja, the nation’s capital that her visit to Nigeria was to show appreciation to President Muhammadu Buhari for the support accorded her.

Auchi Polytechnic bans students from driving cars on campus

Students of Auchi Polytechnic in Edo state have been prohibited from driving private cars within the school.

This is according to a circular dated 9 March, issued by the registrar, Dr. G. E. Ihiokhan.

He cited intelligence reports as reason for the ban.

“Following intelligence reports received by management, it has become expedient to put the following measures in place with effect from Wednesday, 10th March, 2021.”

Bolivia’s ex-president Jeanine Anez, many former ministers arrested in coup probe

The former interim president of Bolivia, Jeanine Áñez Chavez, and several former ministers have been arrested.

Prosecutors said she and the ministers took part in a coup against the then President Evo Morales in 2019.

Mr Morales resigned and fled Bolivia after protests and allegations of electoral fraud.

Ms Áñez has said she is the victim of a political vendetta by Mr Morales’s Mas Socialist party, which has since returned to power.

FG announces closure of Falomo Bridge for repairs

The Federal Controller of Works in Lagos, Mr Olukayode Popoola has announced a six weeks partial closure of the Falomo Bridge in Victoria Island from Sunday for repairs.

Popoola in a statement on Friday night appealed for understanding of road users promising that traffic regulatory and law enforcement agencies have been deployed to minimise gridlock.

“The Federal Government will be embarking on rehabilitation of Falomo Bridge for a period of six weeks starting from Sunday 14th March 2021.

“This will require partial closure of one lane at a time.

EFCC arrests 57 internet fraud suspects, recovers two rifles

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it has arrested 57 internet fraud suspects in Ilaro, Ogun State, with two pump action rifles recovered from some of them on Friday.

The agency said in a statement by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujaren, that it arrested them at their hideout in Yewa Frontier Hotel & Resort, Ellysam Hotel & Suits, April Suits and IBD International Hotels, all in Ilaro, Ogun State.

It said the arrest followed “actionable intelligence linking them to alleged fraudulent activities, ranging from love scam on numerous dating sites, obtaining money by false pretences and other cybercrimes.”

George Floyd: Minneapolis to pay $27 million to settle family lawsuit over death

The family of George Floyd and city of Minneapolis have agreed a record $27million settlement to resolve the lawsuit filed against the city and four cops involved in his death.

It is the largest pre-trial wrongful death settlement in US history.

George Floyd’s death in police custody stirred national and global protests over racial injustice and police brutality.

Floyd, a 46-year-old Black man, died in May as Derek Chauvin, a white Minneapolis police officer, kneeled on his neck for nearly nine minutes.

Kwara State Lecturer convicted over romance scam

A 38-year-old lecturer at the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, Adebisi Ademola, was on Friday sentenced to six months imprisonment for his involvement in romance scam.

Justice Sikiru Oyinloye, of the Kwara state high court sitting in Ilorin, convicted Ademola.

He was among the 33 suspected fraudsters arrested on September 14, 2020 in Offa area of the state.

The Ilorin Zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, arraigned the suspect on a count charge bordering on romance scam, an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 95 of the Penal code law of Northern Nigeria.

Supreme Court affirms Dariye will spend 10 years in prison

The Supreme Court has affirmed the 10-year jail term of former Governor Joshua Dariye for criminal breach of trust.

The judgment read by Justice Helen Ogunwumiju on behalf of the Mary Odili panel (a five-person panel) held that the Appeal Court was correct to have affirmed the original judgment that sentenced the ex-governor.

A three-person panel of the appeal court, led by Justice Stephen Adah, in its decision, upheld the original judgment passed by Justice Adebukola Banjoko of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory delivered on June 12, 2018.

Stations in Lagos, Abuja ignore NNPC, begin pumping fuel at N212 per litre

Some service stations in Lagos and Abuja have already implemented the new pump price of petrol as announced by the Nigerian government on Thursday night.

The stations on Friday adjusted their metering system to reflect N212 per litre, Peoples Gazette observed. The stations include Dan Oil in Lugbe, Abuja, and Oando opposite County Hospital in Ogba, Lagos.

The development contradicted NNPC’s claim that fuel prices have not been hiked across the country, following nationwide uproar that N212 petrol would worsen the conditions of Nigerians, most of whom are already groaning under prolonged harsh economic conditions. Nigeria has been categorised as the country with the highest number of poor people in the world.

In other parts of the country, the Gazette observed that some filling stations have been selling at between N162 to N220 per litre. In Ijebu Ode, Ogun, many stations have also shut down operation to hoard available products until they have a clearer view of the policy, the Gazette observed.

Man cries out as his fiancée and other female passengers are kidnapped between Ijebu ode and Ibadan

A man has taken to Twitter to narrate how his fiancée, Precious Patrick Ibor who was travelling from Calabar to Ibadan, were kidnapped by "criminal herders" alongside other female passengers.

He explained that he had spoken with her at 7:37pm on March 9, 2021, and she informed him that she was already at Ijebu Ode, heading to Ibadan.

When he didn't hear from her 3 hours later and her number wasn't connecting, he visited the terminal of the transport company she travelled with and was informed that 3 buses, including the one his fiancée was in, were attacked by bandits.

He added that the incident has been reported to the nearest police station and the Oyo state anti-kidnapping squad.

Amaju Pinnick, president of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), has been elected into the FIFA Executive Council.

Pinnick, 50, was elected as a member of the FIFA Council during the 43rd CAF Ordinary General Assembly which was held in Rabat, the Moroccan capital on Friday.

He beat Walter Nyamilandu of Malawi to the position.

Pinnick is the third Nigerian to be elected into the FIFA council.

FG apologises to Nigerians over N212.61 per litre new petrol price

The Federal Government, Friday, apologized to Nigerians over the latest N212.61 petrol price confusion in the country.

Speaking at the groundbreaking for the Rungas composite cylinder manufacturing plant in Alaro City Free Zone, Epe, the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Mr Timipreye Sylva, urged Nigerians to disregard the increase, explaining that it was a mix-up.

 Meanwhile, the Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency, PPPRA, has declared that its publication of monthly template, does not amount to increasing the price of petroleum products, as such increases are supposed to be determined by market forces, under the current deregulation of the sector.

Akwa United players involved in accident, three hospitalised

Members of the Akwa United FC team have been involved in a motor crash along Ezionye Express Road in Enugu.

One player and two officials of the club sustained injuries during the accident and have been taken to the hospital.

The bus was conveying the team from their base in Uyo to Kaduna for their match-day 15 tie versus Jigawa Golden Stars was involved in a head-on collision with a truck.

The club’s media officer, Mfon Patrick, who did not mention the injured player’s name and officials simply said they were rushed to the hospital.

5 arrested in South Africa’s biggest banking scandal

South African Police, on Thursday, arrested five persons in connection with the collapse of VBS Mutual Bank, the country’s biggest banking scandal in recent years.

The Police said the suspects were arrested in an early-dawn raid at various places in Gauteng and Limpopo Provinces as they “continue to rid the country of corruption and corrupt activities’’.

Those arrested will be answering to a combined 188 counts of charges, which include theft, fraud, corruption, money laundering and racketeering, the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks) said in a press release.

“Now that the attendance of a suspected organised criminal group is secured in court, attention needs to be given to those who contributed to the looting from various municipalities and undue beneficiaries,’’ said National Head of the Hawks, Godfrey Lebeya.

Lagos Judicial panel awards petitioner N7.5m for police brutality

The Lagos State judicial panel hearing cases of police brutality and SARS-related abuses has awarded a petitioner, Marc Chidibere Nwadi the sum on N7.5 million.

Chidiebere Nwadi first appeared before the panel on Saturday, November 28 before the panel where he testified that he hated the Nigerian police since 1999.

The 39-old who appeared without legal counsel narrated how the Nigerian police killed his dream of becoming a journalist.

He said he was finding his way to another relative’s place who stays in Surulere the following morning. He was picked at Oshodi Bus stop around 5 am by police officers in a van. The police took him alongside others arrested to Idimu police station, Mr. Nwadi narrated.

Sultan urges Muslim to look out for new moon

The Sultan of Sokoto, Sa’ad Abubakar III, has directed the Muslim Ummah to look out for the new moon of Sha’aban 1442AH from Saturday.

Abubakar made the call on Friday in a statement by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council, Sokoto.

“This is to inform the Muslim Ummah that Saturday, March 13, which is equivalent to 29th day of Rajab 1442AH shall be the day to look for the new moon of Sha’aban 1442AH.

“Muslims are, therefore, requested to start looking for the new moon on Saturday and report its sighting to the nearest District or Village Head for onward communication to the Sultan,’’ he said.

Kaduna school abduction: Govt provides updates, declares 30 missing, 180 rescued

The Kaduna State government has said that 180 citizens, many of whom were students of the Federal College of Forestry Mechanization, Afaka, Igabi local government area of Kaduna State have been rescued by the troops of the Nigerian Army in the early hours of (today) Friday.

Recall that armed bandits in large number had attacked the institution around 11:30pm on Thursday and kidnapped several students and staff.

The Kaduna State Commissioner, Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan, while explaining the situation of the kidnapped students in a statement said the armed bandits broke into the institution by breaching a perimeter fence and encroached about 600 meters to attack the first facility.

The statement further explained that the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs on receiving a distress call, alerted the 1 Division Nigerian Army and the Air Training Command of the Nigerian Air Force.
